STEPHENTOWN- Laura A Meddaugh McEwan, 85 of Cranston Hill Road died on Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after being stricken at her home.
Born November 15, 1924 in Stephentown, she was the daughter of the late Orin and Mabel Clifford Meddaugh. She was the loving wife of the late William G. McEwan, who died on June 13, 1987. They were married in Stephentown on March 23, 1946.
A lifelong resident of Stephentown, Mrs. McEwan was a graduate of New Lebanon High School and the Henry Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield. She was a member of the Stephentown Baptist Church (now Stephentown Evangelical Community Church) where she served as treasurer, organist and taught Sunday school.
After graduation, Mrs. McEwan worked for General Electric in Pittsfield as a drafts woman, Pittsfield General Hospital as a registered nurse and at the Watervliet Arsenal as a registered nurse where she retired in 1986 after 22 years of service. She was a member in the Stephentown Grange, DORCAS, Stephentown Pastime Riding Club and the Eastern Star #9. She enjoyed knitting and embroidering, square dancing, traveling and playing cards with her friends.
Survivors include her children Scott W. (Shelby McConnell) McEwan of Stephentown and Nancy A. (Frederick) Reinhart of Middleburgh; a sister-in-law, Betti McEwan of Canaan; grandchildren Justine Scerbo, Seth McEwan, Laura Anne Reinhart; and a great grandson, Cameron Honiker. Her sister, Naomi Meinhart, died prevviously.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday June 5, at 1 p.m. from the Stephentown Evangelical Community Church, 366 NY 43, Stephentown, where Rev. Alan G. Wolcott will officiate. Private inurnment will take place in the Stephentown Cemetery.
Abiding by Mrs. McEwan ‘s wishes, she requests no flowers. Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Stephentown Evangelical Community Church or American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org)
