ASHLAND, Va.–Beatrice Thoman, 99, of Virginia, formerly of Germantown and Hyde Park, died Thursday April 29, 2010 at the Ashland Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born November 3, 1910 in Riverdale, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Herring) Blauvelt.

She had been a homemaker, a member of the Clermont Bible Church, a charter member of the Germantown Fire Company Auxiliary,and the Southern Tier Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Beatrice and Walter VanBenschoten of Ashland; grandchildren, Laura Beth Gilchrest, Scott VanBenschoten and Suzanne Lauer all of  Virginia, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Herman Thoman, died January 29, 2000. Her sister, Helen Huffnagle, and two brothers, Arthur Blauvelt and Nesbit Blauvelt, also died previously.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 7, at theYadack-Fox Funeral Home of Germantown.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 8, from the funeral  home.  The Rev. Michael Gerhardt of the New Beginnings Church of Poughkeepsie will officiate.

Burial will be in the Reformed Church Cemetery of Germantown.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515.
