August Schlotterer, 88, World War II vet

SCOTIA–August F. Schlotterer passed away April 4, 2010 at the Glendale Nursing Home. He was born May 26, 1921 in the Bronx and was the son of August F. and Rose Liedecker August SchlottererSchlotterer.

Mr. Schlotterer moved to New Lebanon as a young boy and graduated from Chatham High School. He served in the United States Coast Guard as an Electrician’s Mate Second Class during WWII. When he returned he worked as a project manager for GE in Schenectady.

He retired to Murrells Inlet, S. Carolina and only returned to Scotia after a hurricane destroyed his home.

He is survived by his daughters Frances S. Kahn (Andrew), Burnt Hills and Elizabeth C. Heddesheimer (Bruce), Scotia; grandchildren Kimberly and Alex Kahn, Mallory and Eric Heddesheimer; great grandchildren Jane and Dean Kahn, Patrick Hyam, Jr. and Makayla DeRosa.

His beloved wife, Betty; his sister, Claire; and brother, Herman, died previously.

Family will receive friends Thursday, April 8, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl funeral home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham. Prayers will be offered at 10 a.m. at the funeral home and burial will follow at Saint James Cemetery, Ghent.
