Robert “Bob” Mitchell, 66, had an adventurous spirit

ALBANY–Robert “Bob” Mitchell, 66, of Chatham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, at Albany Medical Center with Robert Mitchellhis loving sisters by his side.

He is survived by his sisters, Valerie (Mitchell) Wallin and her husband, Peter, Glennis (Mitchell) Whiffen and her husband, Tim; nieces Heidi (Ferm) Nick and Emily (Whiffen) Warrington; and nephew Douglas Ferm. His nephew Tyler Whiffen and his parents Robert (Roy) and Jill Mitchell died previously.

Mr. Mitchell was born in Hendon, England during Second World War bombings of nearby London. He attended public and private schools in England, Canada, and the U.S., his family never settling in one place for more than two years at a time. He received an associate’s degree from Albany Business College. He worked as a New York City cab driver, a librarian at the Albany Public Library, a dispatcher in California, and a reporter for several local papers and websites.

He enjoyed traveling, writing, running, reading, debating, and spending time with his family. He was known affectionately as U.B. for Uncle Bobby and his warm smile and soft-spoken ways will be missed.

Mr. Mitchell had an adventurous spirit and lived life to the fullest. He saw life as a story to be written, rather than read, and the road less traveled as a source of inspiration. For that, he ended his days with many stories and many beloved friends.

The family will hold a private service at home.

Friends are invited to write memories in Mr. Mitchell ‘s guestbook at
