MELVILLE–Frederick T. Murnane, 73, a resident of Copake and Sebastian, Fla. and a former longtime resident of Millerton, passed away Wednesday December 30, 2009 at The Hospice Inn.
He was born February 1, 1936 in Bronx, the son of the late Timothy and Dorothy (Frost) Murnane,
Mr. Munane had been employed for 40 years by Central Hudson Gas & Electric as a lineman and later as supervisor working throughout Dutchess and Ulster counties.
He was an accomplished golfer who won numerous club championships and tournaments. Mr. Munane was a member and club professional and Undermountain Golf Course in Boston Corners. He participated in leagues there and also at the Copake Country Club. He was a certified teaching instructor and member of the United States Golf Association. He taught at numerous venues including Undermountain, Copake Country Club and the Hillside Driving Range. Mr. Munane also enjoyed making golf clubs and repairing them, often at no charge for his many friends. Upon relocating to Florida for the winters he became employed at the John’s Island Country Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
He was a former member of the Millerton Rod & Gun Club, the Millerton American Legion Post #178, a former leader for the Boy Scouts of America and a volunteer for the organization, Little People of America.
He served his country with the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956.
Survivors include his loving and devoted partner, Beatrice Petruzzelli of Copake and Sebastian; his 7 children, Bernadette Coniglio of Stanfordville, Monica Sprague of Palm Beach, Fla., Shelia Miller of Waldo, Fla., Frederick J. Murnane of Gt. Barrington, Michael Murnane of Amenia, Gloria Cade of Oneonta, and Keiven Murnane of Carmel. He also leave 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine “Mary” Brophy of Vero Beach, Fla.; his former wife, Lucy Murnane of Copake; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday January 5, at 11a.m. from the Parish of Our Lady of Hope, Route 22 in Copake Falls with the Rev. Joseph Falletta officiating.
Friends are invited and may call on Monday January 4, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, Route 22 in Copake.
Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be offered to your local Hospice care.
