Obituary: Walter ‘Bud’ Wood

Walter “Bud” Wood

Walter “Bud” Wood passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, at his home with his wife at his side. He was 74. 

Born in Catskill on Aug. 23, 1949, to the late Walter and Mary Wood, Bud was raised in Oak Hill, later moving to Preston Hollow. He attended Durham Elementary and graduated from Greenville High School in 1967. He went on to drive trucks for Van Auken’s Express. One of his greatest joys was traveling all the local roads and taking in the sights. He was also a Life Member of the Oak Hill Durham Volunteer Fire Company. 

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Thomas Wood and sister Ilene Baisholtz, as well as sister-in-law Barbara Wood. 

Survivors include his wife Maria G. Wood, children Samantha (Paul) Moak, Tabatha (Will) Wagner, Ilene (James) Stark, Walter H. (Sheila) Wood, Jason D. (Melissa) Wood, Lisa (Allen) Holloway, and Robert B. Richter; brothers Steve and George Wood; sister Linda Richards; and sister-in-law Cam Wood, as well as 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bud was cremated privately, and a celebration of his life will take place on Nov. 18, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Oak Hill Durham Fire Company, County Route 22, Oak Hill, NY 12460.
