Margret Utech (1938 -2017)
VALATIE—Margret Anna Utech, 78, of Valatie died at home February 22, 2017.
She was born in Manhattan October 1, 1938, but her family moved to Hudson when she was four weeks old, so she always considered herself a native Hudsonian.
Her parents, John and Ilse Borck Utech, emigrated to the United States in the late 1920s.
Ms. Utech was a graduate of Hudson High School Class of 1956 and Syracuse University Class of 1960. She taught physical education and health at Webutuck Central School and later for 20 years in the Island Park New York School District.
She was also camp director of Camp Anderson, a YMCA camp at Knickerbocker Lake in 1964 and 1965.
In 1984 Ms. Utech moved back to her beloved Hudson Valley, where her jobs and activities, as a real estate salesperson, deliverer for the Register-Star and volunteer at the Claverack Free Library connected her to her community.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Utech was predeceased by her sister, Hilda Utech Scott.
Survivors include: brother-in-law, George Scott; niece, Susan Bohlander; nephews, Michael (Jennifer) Scott and David (Ellen) Scott. She is also survived by her “heart sister” of many decades, Linda Mattis of Valatie, and many friends of long-standing, especially Nancy Mattis and Sharon Egnasher.
Graveside services will be held at a later date.
