Katherine Rosbrook (1944 – 2015)

ALBANY—Katherine “Kathy” Margaret Rosbrook, 71, of Kinderhook passed away Sunday morning, December 27, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn with her family at her side.

She was born April 20, 1944 in Portland, ME, the eldest child of the late George and Delcia (Ouellette) Warrington. A graduate of Ichabod Crane High School, she continued her education at Grasslands School of Practical Nursing in Valhalla, earning her LPN license in 1965. Her early nursing career was spent at Westchester County Medical Center, St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York and Albany Medical Center.

In the early 1980s, she sold homes with Melfie Real Estate in East Greenbush then Mrs. Rosbrook returned to her high school alma mater as a teacher’s aide and librarian’s aide for seven years. Her nursing background was put to use once again, and her tenure with New York State continued, when she took a position with the State Insurance Fund in Albany. Upon retirement in 2000, not one to be content “sitting home with nothing to do,” she returned to being an LPN with Kinderhook physicians, Brian Daggett and Elizabeth Howard. In 2007, she retired once again to travel and spend more time with her two grandchildren.

A former member of the Kinderhook Kindercrafters, the Columbia County Docents, the ICE PTA and a founding member of Ichabod Crane’s music booster club, TEMPO, Mrs. Rosbrook was always an active volunteer in her community. Most recently, she was the support group facilitator for the local chapter of SPOHNC (Support for People with Oral, Head and Neck Cancers) at the American Cancer Society’s HopeClub in Albany.

Mrs. Rosbrook is survived by: her husband of 49 years, Richard “Dick” Rosbrook; her three daughters, Kelly Firmbach of Valatie, Shannon Rosbrook (Stephen Devine) of Melrose, MA, and Colleen (Kevin) Bates of Valatie; her grandchildren, Ryan and Allyson Firmbach of Valatie; her sister, MaryJane Stillman of Kirkwood; her brother, Robert (Patti) Warrington, Sr., of Valatie; a son-in-law, Rudy Firmbach of Ghent; a dear friend, Brenda Warrington of Valatie; many beloved nieces and nephews.

Much appreciation goes to Mrs. Rosbrook’s cousin, Dick Cloutier and friend Elissa Hilliard for their extraordinary support during her 14-month battle with pancreatic cancer, and to those nurses, nurse technicians, her physical therapist and Pavilion 4 staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and St. Peter’s Hospice Inn, with special attention to the Family Practice Physicians, who strived to make her last days as comfortable as possible.

Calling hours will be held Friday, January 1, 4 to 8 p.m. at Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. A funeral Mass will take place Saturday, January 2, 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 1025 Kinderhook Street, Valatie; with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Valatie.
