James R. Miller, Sr. (1936 – 2014)

HUDSON—James R. Miller, Sr., 78, of Churchtown passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 with his loving family at his side, after a 14 year courageous battle with cancer.

He was the owner of James R. Miller Construction Company for more than 40 years.

Mr. Miller was a life member of the Churchtown Fire Department, and a member of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Churchtown. He had many hobbies including hunting, woodworking, creating beautiful bowls and lamps, restoring antique cars, genealogy and gardening. Mr. Miller was a FAA licensed pilot, and he served in the Army Reserve. He especially enjoyed family gatherings with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Leland and Sarah (Sigler), six brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by: his wife, of 58 years, Nancy (Bessette) Miller; his children, Jim (Janet Richard) Miller, Jr., of Syracuse, Steven (Joanne Delaurentis) Miller, Joanne (Bruce Martel) Miller, Tammy (Tom) Foutch, all of Churchtown; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four brothers; one sister; many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bates & Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. A church service will be Wednesday, November 5, 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Churchtown, with interment immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Miller’s memory to the Churchtown Fire Department.

Beverly J. Logan (1931 – 2014)

VALATIE—Beverly J. Logan, 83, a resident of Barnwell Health Facilities, died there Sunday, November 2, 2014.

Born July 2, 1931 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Dorothy (Shufelt) Mesick.

Mrs. Logan was a devoted mother and homemaker.

She is survived by: one daughter, Denene March (Drew) of Stuyvesant; one son, Denis Logan (Pattea Tenace and her son, Jon Tenace) of Albany; four grandchildren, Erin Everett, Trevor March, Kyle and Kristyn Logan; one great-grandson, Ethan Everett; her dear friend, Virginia Howard of Barnwell; one niece and one nephew.

She was predeceased by her son, Dean Logan; her daughter, Denise Krapf; a sister, Bonnie Waters and a granddaughter, Heidi Krapf.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 6, 2 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with the Reverend James Slater officiating. Burial will follow in Kinderhook Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, November 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valatie Rescue Squad, P.O. Anne P. LaCasse (1926 – 2014)

ANCRAM—Anne P. LaCasse, 88, of Ancram passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014 at her residence.

She was born April 10, 1926 in the Bronx, the daughter of Francis and Anna (Maiberger) Flannery.

On October 13, 1951 in the Bronx, she married Francis LaCasse.

She worked along with her husband, Frank on the family farm, Blue Bell Dairy in Ancram serving as the bookkeeper.

Surviving are: her husband, Francis at home in Ancram; two sons, James LaCasse of Ancram and Stephen LaCasse of Valatie; also several loving cousins.

Friends are invited and may call at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 State Route 22, Copake, Thursday November 6, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Interment services will be held Friday, November 7, 2014, 2 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

Carl L. Zelno, Sr. (1954 – 2014)

STUYVESANT—Carl L. Zelno, Sr., 60, of Stuyvesant died Monday, November 3, 2014 at his home.

Born July 4, 1954 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Ralph and Sadie (Williams) Zelno, Sr.

Mr. Zelno was employed by Yonder Fruit Farms in Valatie.

He is survived by: three children, Lenny Wolcott of Hudson, Elizabeth Backus (Louis) of Valatie and Carl L. Zelno, Jr., of Stuyvesant; two sisters, Leona and Doris Zelno, both of Massachusetts; five brothers, Ralph Zelno of Valatie, George Zelno of NC, Jim and Bill Zelno, both of Stuyvesant, and Ritchie Zelno of Kinderhook; also survived by nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday, November 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Elizabeth Jane Dovigh (1941 – 2014)

HUDSON—Elizabeth Jane “B.J.” Dovigh, 73, of Kiskatom passed away Monday, November 3, 2014 following a long illness.

Mrs. Dovigh, “B.J.” to friends and family, was part owner of K&D Repair Shop, Catskill and a member of the Kiskatom Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for more than 40 years.

She is survived by: her husband of 55 years, Frank J. Dovigh of Kiskatom; sons, Frank and Jeffery; daughters-in-law Cressa and Crystal; six grandchildren, Nicolette, Evan, Logan, Emily, Carly and Seth. She had many dear friends but especially close were Elizabeth Fellows of Smyrna, DE, Kathy Schultz, MaryAnn Kiefer, and MaryAnna VanDuesen of Catskill, and Bess Yeager of Biloxi, MS.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Firemen’s Home, 125 Harry Howard Avenue, Hudson. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 7, 10 a.m.in the Chapel at the Firemen’s Home. Burial will follow in the Firemen’s Home Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Firemen’s Home.

Marie Haas (1911 – 2014)

PHILMONT—Marie Haas, 103, formerly of Slate Hill Road, Chatham died Saturday, November 1 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.

She was born March 17, 1911 in Rockville Centre, the daughter of the late Lorenz and Clara (Eberlein) Wollesen. She graduated from high school in Oceanside.

For 40 years she was employed as staff supervisor for New York Telephone in New York City. In 1966, she and her husband, the late Henry J. Haas (1984), moved to Chatham, where she had since resided.

She was a member of the O.E.S. Cassieo Peia #453 on Long Island, the Kinderhook Garden Club and was a volunteer with the Chatham-Spencertown Columbia Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by: a cousin, Muriel Eberlein Summers of Atlanta, GA, and two nieces, Shirley Culling and Beverly Marius, both of TN.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 12, 1 p.m. from the Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Avenue, Chatham. Inurnment follows in the Red Rock Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chatham Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 352, Chatham 12037.
