Mary Ann Werner (1931 – 2017)
COPAKE—Mary Ann Kirby Werner, formerly of Copake, died April 6, 2017 at her home in Chesapeake, VA.
A Memorial Mass will be offered Monday, August 14, 2017, 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Hope Parish 8074 State Route 22, Copake Falls, with the Reverend George Brennan officiating.
Private interment will be in Old St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Copake Falls.
A reception to which family and friends are invited will follow in the church hall.

David Van Leeuwen (1954 – 2017)
VALATIE—David N. Van Leeuwen, 63, of Valatie died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at his home.
Born March 30, 1954 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Nancy (Soderberg) Van Leeuwen.
Mr. Van Leeuwen was a graduate of Cornell University, majoring in mathematics. He taught math for 30 years and loved all things math. He was a member of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State and spoke often at their meetings. He had a math blog that was read by other math lovers around the world.
Mr. Van Leeuwen was a naturally curious person interested in learning almost anything. Being able to Google just about any piece of information made him very happy. He was an avid golfer, proud to have hit a hole-in-one, and was also a big fan of the NY Giants.
Mr. Van Leeuwen loved to travel, especially on cruises, and he and his wife, Louise traveled as much as possible. He loved dogs, and got great pleasure from his rescues.
He is survived by: his wife, Louise (Marks) Van Leeuwen; two sisters, Martha Van Leeuwen of Plattsburgh and Nancy Van Leeuwen of Bedford, NH; a brother, Donald Van Leeuwen of Plattsburgh; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Van Leeuwen’s memory may be made to the Kinderhook Library Capital Campaign, P.O. Box 293, Kinderhook 12106.
Sadie Ackley (1931 – 2017)
ALBANY—Sadie “Peg” Ackley of East Chatham passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital, August 9, 2017.
Born in Newton, New Jersey, September 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Gertrude Eamigh.
She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Russell Ackley, Sr., in 1993.
Mrs. Ackley is survived by: daughters, Peggy (Emerson III) Morse and Rita (Michael) Ross; son, Russell Ackley, Jr.; grandchildren, Emerson Morse, IV, Kimberley Engel, Michael Ross Jr., Vincent Ross and Teresa Ross and eight great-grandchildren.
She moved to Columbia County from New Jersey in 1987. She enjoyed bingo, game shows and puzzle books. Her real love and where she enjoyed her time the most was with her family.
Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, Monday, August 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, August 15 from 11 to 11:30 a.m. after which stories will be shared and a prayer offered before the interment in Ghent Union Cemetery.

Marilyn F. Skelly (1932 – 2017)
STAATSBURG—Marilyn F. Skelly, 85, of Red Hook passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Renaissance Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center.
Born June 3, 1932 in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Elizabeth (Broaderick) Herbert.
She married Donald J. Skelly May 21, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Church in Troy. He predeceased her May 24, 1992.
Mrs. Skelly was a communicant of St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook, and was a member of the St. Christopher’s Seniors, the Rosary Altar Society and the Legion of Mary.
She was a former parishioner of St. Sylvia’s Parish in Tivoli, where she taught religious education for more than 15 years and served as a Eucharistic minister.
Mrs. Skelly volunteered as a member of Northern Dutchess Caregivers and was a member of the Southern Tier Seniors.
She is survived by: her sons, Donald (Lynn) C. Skelly of Jacksonville, FL, Joseph E. Skelly of Tuscan, AZ, Robert (Stacey) F. Skelly of Houston, TX, Thomas (Bonnie) P. Skelly of Bothell, WA, Charles (Susan) F. Skelly of Underhill, VT, and John D. Skelly of New York City; her daughters, Maryann Skelly of Red Hook and Carol (Ronnie) Miller of Clermont; a sister, Helene Sullivan of Tuscan, AZ; her daughter-in-law, Rosalie Skelly of Tuscan, AZ; along with 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, William Skelly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 18, 2017, 11 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Church, Red Hook. Burial will be at St. Sylvia’s Cemetery, Tivoli.

Rose Leach (1927 – 2017)
HUDSON—Rose Leach, 90, passed away August 10, 2017 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born April 22, 1927, the daughter of Anthony, Sr., and Philomenia (Esposito) DeCaprio.
She attended Hudson High School and went on to work in retail. She had a flair for fashion and design so much so that people would seek her out for advice and guidance on fashion.
Mrs. Leach was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, was an avid, talented knitter and enjoyed crocheting. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s and was a former member of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by: her brother, Anthony, Jr., (Frances) DeCaprio; her daughters, Deborah Leach and Susan (Neal) Curran; her grandson, Stephen (Amy) Race; her two great-grandchildren, Jameson and Owen Race; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Walter J. Leach, Jr.; her brother, James DeCaprio, and sister, Mary (DeCaprio) Pizza.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, August 16, 2017, 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church, 429 East Allen Street, Hudson. Interment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, August 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
Bernard D. Kipp (1940 – 2017)
PHILMONT—Bernard D. “Dan” Kipp, 76, of Claverack passed away peacefully in the company of his family, Thursday August 10, 2017 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.
Born in Hudson, October 3, 1940, he was the son of the late Bernard A. and Thelma (Sagandorph) Kipp.
Mr. Kipp was a lumberjack and was involved in land maintenance and tree preservation for many years. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman.
He will be missed by: his loving wife, Patricia A. (Rogers) Kipp at home; one son, Sean Kipp of North Carolina; daughter, Kimberly Richards of Pine Plains; step-children, Rich Tomlin of Claverack, Michael Tomlin of California and Theresa Holmes of Greenport; two sisters, Mary VanDeusen of Rhinebeck and Bonita Kipp of Stottville; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces.
Visiting hours will be Monday, August 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with final blessings at 1 p.m. at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Burial will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson.
