Kenny VanAllen

Kenneth C. VanAllen (1941 – 2023)

SCHENECTADY—Kenneth C. VanAllen, 82, of Valatie passed away May 2, 2023 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Born January 19, 1941 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Cornelius Peter and Marie (Ford) VanAllen and the husband of Patricia Ann (Hutchins) VanAllen for 49 1/2 years.

“Kenny” graduated from the school of hard knocks and enjoyed owning and operating his beloved businesses including: VanAllen Automotive, Inc. (60 years), CarQuest Auto Parts, and OK Food Products. His love of streetcars led him into his well-known car shows at his restaurant for many years.

Besides his wife, Patty, he is also survived by: his brother, Neil (Michele) VanAllen of Kinderhook; his sisters, Alice Sharp of Spencertown, Tina Bauhoff of Valatie and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours were at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie, May 6. A graveside service followed at the Kinderhook Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Valatie Food Pantry or a charity of one’s choice.

Helen Cummings

Helena R. Cummings (1943 – 2023)

PITTSFIELD, MA—Helena Ruth Cummings, 79, of West Lebanon passed away at the Berkshire Medical Center, Monday, May 1, 2023.

Born in Staten Island, October 11, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Gunnar and Ruth (Butler) Hermanson.

“Helen” grew up in Staten Island and graduated from New Dorp High School in 1961. She worked at several banks over the years, including the Chase Manhattan Bank, First Niagara, and Berkshire Bank. In her free time she enjoyed reading her favorite books, playing on her computer, tending to the flowers in her garden, and spending time at Sacandaga Lake. While there was much that brought her joy, nothing made her happier than time spent with her family.

She is survived by: her beloved husband of more than 58 years, Floyd H. Cummings, Jr., of West Lebanon; their children, Brenda (Todd) Evans of East Nassau, Robert Cummings of Stephentown and Brian Cummings of New Lebanon; her grandchildren, Krystal (Shane) Zeyak of West Lebanon, Matthew (Paige) Evans of East Nassau, Courtney (Will Newton) Evans of East Nassau, and her two great-grandchildren, Addison and Colson.

A funeral service was celebrated May 5 at the Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, Stephentown. Interment followed in the Cemetery of the Evergreens. To remember her in a special way consider a donation to a favorite charity.

Helen Jennings

Helen S. Jennings (1930 – 2023)

PHILMONT—Helen S. Jennings, 92, of Philmont passed away peacefully May 2, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Anastasia Bondarchuk.

She leaves to mourn: her children, Dorothy Higgins of Philmont, Daniel Jennings of Kinderhook, James (Vickie) Jennings of Hudson, Charles (Debbie) Jennings of Denton, TX, Rose (Thomas) Maurer of Orlando, FL, Paul (Teresa) Jennings of Wagner, SC; sister, Betty Stringer of NC; special friend, Sandy Quirino; 32 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by: her husband, Herbert E. Jennings, Sr.; children, Herbert E. Jennings, Jr., and Nancy Blaise; grandchildren, Gary Higgins and Angela Jennings; three sisters and son-in-law, Vernon Higgins.

She was employed as a nurse’s aide for 26 years at Pine Haven Nursing Home, Philmont, in a job she really loved.

Calling hours will be held Thursday May 11, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sacco Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jacqueline Jefferson officiating. Burial will be in Copake Cemetery.
