Donald Speed, Sr. (1954 – 2015)
PHILMONT—Donald James Speed, Sr., 61, died unexpectedly Monday, June 1, 2015 at his home in Philmont.
Born May 29, 1954 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Clarence (Bill) Speed, Sr., and Lillian Speed Conclin.
Mr. Speed is survived by: his wife of 10 years, Eva Langston Speed, his brother, Clarence (Skip) Speed, his sister, Lynda Speed (Hines) Bell, all of Philmont; two sons, Donald (D.J.) Speed, Jr., of Craryville and Thomas J. Speed of Livingston; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Richard G. Galef (1923 – 2015)
NEW YORK CITY—Richard G. Galef of New York City and East Taghkanic died peacefully May 31, 2015.
He was an accomplished industrial and landscape designer, the creator of the magnificent gardens at Rabbit Hill in Columbia County.
A brilliant man, he did everything with zest and intensity living his life to the fullest. His garden is featured in the March 2015 issue of New York Cottages and Gardens and can be viewed June 27 (www.gardenconservancy.org/open-days/Galef).
Mr. Galef’s family mourns his passing. He was the beloved husband of Susan Anthony; uncle of Suzie Rettblatt; brother of the late Mildred Rosenbaum; stepfather of Melissa Anthony and father of Adam Galef and the late Joshua Galef.
A memorial service will be held July 4, noon at 158 Maiers Road, Craryville.

Mary Gene Strobel (1931 – 2015)
ALBANY—Mary Gene Strobel, 84, of Niverville passed away June 5, 2015 at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born May 1, 1931 to Horace and Mary Hadley. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by: her husband of 60 years, Gerhard Strobel; her children, Alfred (Debbie) Strobel, Alan (Kelly) Strobel and Mary Beth Thompson.
She was most proud of her grandchildren, Paul (Mary Beth) Strobel, Jennifer (David) Kiser, Allyson (Bryan Syrett) Thompson, Brian Thompson, Lauren and Katelynn Strobel and Kelly Thompson and her six great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. Private services will be at the convenience of the family.
