Bogdan Slowikowski (1961 – 2015)

PHILMONT—Bogdan Slowikowski, 53, of Stamford, Delaware County, recently of Philmont, died Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.

He was born October 22, 1961 in Poland.

Mr. Slowikowski was a social worker in the Delaware County area.

There are no funeral services planned. His remains will be buried in his hometown of Warsaw, Poland.

Arrangements are with the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.

Marjorie Garry (1931 – 2015)

ALBANY—Marjorie A. Garry, 83, of Philmont passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Albany Medical Center.

Born in Hudson on December 16, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha (Card) Ham.

Mrs. Garry was a secretary for the New York News in Hudson.

Surviving are: her husband, John Garry, Jr., of Philmont; two sons, David Garry of Queens and Todd Garry of Hudson; her grandson, David Garry of Westchester; her granddaughter, Jennifer Deida of Queens; one great-grandson, Christopher Deida of Queens; one great-granddaughter, Noelle Deida of Queens; her brother, Arthur (Marion) Ham of Philmont; her special sister-in-law, Barbara (Joseph) Hoffman of Greenport, and her special niece, Michele (Shawn) Maxfield of Greenport. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Nick Carlucci (1928 – 2015)

MARYLAND—Nicola “Nick” Carlucci was born in Hudson, December 6, 1928 and died August 28, 2015 in Maryland.

He was the first born in Sarah and Augusto’s family. He was schooled in Hudson and after graduation in 1946, he joined the Army. Thanks to the GI Bill, he graduated college and entered the working world as a mechanical engineer. He spent his entire career working for Westinghouse moving around the country with his wife, Naomi and daughter, Sandy. After 43 years, he retired from the Chesapeake Bay plant as manager of mechanical engineering.

He enjoyed 21 years of retirement, traveling, bird carving and visiting with family and friends.

Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by: his son-in-law, Ledge; his grandson, Nicolas; sister, Angela; brother, Venanzo; sister-in-law, Florence and their families.  He will be dearly missed.

He was predeceased by his brother, Ronnie.

Frank O. Kozel (1928 – 2015)

GHENT—Frank O. Kozel, 87, of Ghent passed away Monday, August 31, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 30, 1928 in Hebron, CT, he was the son of the late Frank and Eva (Misovich) Kozel.

He was a graduate of Hudson High School, where he was active in sports, and Hudson Valley Community College with an electrical degree. After graduating from college he went to work for the family business, The Old Post Road Tavern, now known as Kozel’s Restaurant.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the carrier U.S.S. Valley Forge. He was a member of Emanuel St. John’s Church in Hudson, the West Ghent Volunteer Fire Company, the Ghent Sportsmen Club, the Hudson Elks 787, the Hudson American Legion and Cornell Cooperative Extension. In addition, he was a founding member of the Columbia County Liquor Dealer’s Association and served as president. He loved to garden and share the “vegetables of his labor” with his family and friends. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He also loved to travel, spend time with his friends and customers at his restaurant and drink Genesee Light while watching his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox.

On January 21, 1951, he married Elsie Johnson in Germantown. They were married for 64 years.

He is survived by: his beloved wife, Elsie; five devoted children, Linda (Brian) O’Reilly of Hudson, Edward “Gus” (Helen) Kozel of Ghent, Joanne (Marty) Feinberg of Huntington, Long Island, David (Ellen) Kozel of Westport, CT, and Suzanne (Jim) Rajczi of Staatsburg; seven loving grandchildren, Heidi, Nikolas, Randi, Jordana, Joshua, Geoffrey and Jason; two great-grandchildren, Amya and Avery; his sister, Patricia Cebry of Dallas, TX, and his beloved dog, Molly. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Marian Kozel and his brother, Edward Kozel.

Calling hours are at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson, Wednesday, September 2, 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be conducted Thursday, September 3, 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Viewmont Rural Cemetery.

Josephine M. Meltz (1931 – 2015)

PHILMONT—Josephine M. Meltz, 84, of Hudson passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.

She was born in Hudson, March 20, 1931, the daughter of the late Andrea and Michelina (Russo) Scalera.

She was employed at IBM in Kingston in the assembly department.

Surviving are: her brother, Nicholas Scalera of Hudson; her sister, Frances Kostszewski of Claverack; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five sisters, Philomena Peters, Rose Leonetti, Elizabeth DeFile, Caroline Jablanski and Amina Rivers and four brothers, Generino, Anthony, Carlo and John Scalera.

A calling hour will be held at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home,110 Green Street, Hudson, Thursday, September 3 at 1 p.m. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

John Broughton, Jr.

VALATIE—John “Jack” J. Broughton, Jr., 78, of Castleton passed away August 24, 2015 at Barnwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Loving husband of JoanMarie Broughton, he was a 1954 graduate of Schodack Central Schools, attended Clemson University and graduated Albany Business College in 1986. Mr. Broughton worked for various trucking and car companies, New York State, Standard Furniture and Quest Diagnostics. He was in the ROTC and served in the Army Reserves for eight years. Mr. Broughton was a life member of Nassau Hose Company #1 and Schodack Valley Fire Company. He owned John’s Speed Shop and Nassau Community Hobby Depot.

Mr. Broughton enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Falzos and Classic bowling leagues. He also loved drag racing and was a ham radio and CB operator.

In addition to his loving wife of 39 years, he is survived by: his children, Deborah (Gary) Wallace and Judith (Michael) DeZalia; brother, Richard (Tami Wais) Broughton; grandchildren, Travis (Jessica) Wallace, Jaime Wallace, Joshua Wallace, Amanda DeZalia and Kelsey DeZalia; great-grandchild, Cameron Wallace; step-children, Donna (Michael) Goodall, Dawne (Steven) Kelly, Denise (Lou Cardella) Leggett and Joseph (Brenda) Hacker; step-grandchildren, Erica Hacker (Steven Shumway), John (Rachel) Leggett, IV, Tiffany (Ed Guida) Kelly and Joseph (Bekah) Hacker, Jr.; step-great-grandchildren, Karleigh English, Adalie and Walter Leggett, Lani, Bella and Mika Hacker.

He is also survived by his niece, Elizabeth (Steve) Hart; nephews, Richard (Johanna) Broughton, John (Shelly) Broughton and their children. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joan J. Broughton and step-grandson, Steven Kelly, Jr.

Funeral services from the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm Street, Nassau were held Friday, August 28. Interment was in Horizon View Cemetery, Castleton. The family thanks Barnwell Nursing and Rehab for their care over the last 16 years, Columbia County Hospice, Albany County Hospice and the staff of the fourth floor at Albany Memorial Hospital.

Dale Kehoe (1944 – 2015)

ALBANY—Dale E. (Young) Kehoe, 70, of Watervliet passed away August 31, 2015 at Albany Medical Center with her family by her side.

Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Doris (Henry) Young. She attended Columbia High School and retired this year from the Berry Oxford Townhouse Apartments in Latham where she was a bookkeeper.

She enjoyed reading by the pool, playing golf and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by: her loving husband, Edward Kehoe of Watervliet; son, Howard (Glenna) Henderson of Nassau; daughters, Cheryl (Michael) Griffin of East Nassau and Sandra Henderson of Nassau; brother, William J. (Colleen) Young of Defreestville; sisters, Diana (Lloyd) Yates of Niverville and Donna Freeman of Valatie; grandchildren, Julia and Gianna Henderson, Jennifer Aptt, Heather Rudolph and Michelle Mazzotti. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Belle.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service in the Nassau-Schodack Cemetery, Route 203, Nassau, Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. Donations in Mrs. Kehoe’s memory may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands 12204.
