Ralph A. Schermerhorn, Jr. (1960 – 2020)

PHILMONT—Ralph Alfred Schermerhorn, Jr., 60, of Philmont died peacefully Friday, September 4, 2020 at his home.

Born in Hudson August 10, 1960, he was the son of the late Ralph A. Schermerhorn, Sr., and Mary (Simmons) Schermerhorn.

He is survived by: his longtime girlfriend, Diana L. Marsh at home; children, Keith Gaylord of Philmont and Lindsey Schermerhorn of Alabama; his brothers, John Rutkowski of St. Augustine, FL, and Rodney Schermerhorn; two sisters, Conchetta “Chet” Soleman of Alabama and Debbie.

There are no calling hours. Memorial services will be announced.

Joyce McDonald

Joyce B. McDonald (1922 – 2020)

PHILMONT—Joyce B. McDonald, 98, of Philmont passed away August 31, 2020.

She was born August 6, 1922 in Hudson to the late Gustave and Ruth (Best) Erickson.

She graduated from Hudson High School in 1941. She attended Cedar Crest College until meeting and marrying her husband of 57 years Henry J. McDonald. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Her faith was a very important part of her life. It allowed her to remain positive, cheerful, helpful and loving even during life’s unexpected challenges.

She worked 27 years at Pine Haven Home as a nurse’s aide, was a hospice volunteer, phoned home-bound seniors, visited nursing home residents and provided transportation to appointments for friends.

When her children were young she was the neighborhood chauffeur—transporting her children and their friends to baseball and basketball games, the Community Theater and swimming daily at Oakdale Beach.

Mrs. McDonald is survived by: her daughter, Marthana (Ronald) Wood; four grandchildren, Joshua (Julie) McDonald, Jeremy (Jennifer) McDonald, Ronald (Amanda) Wood, Jr., Candace (Peter) Wood Forcucci; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas and Brooke McDonald, Caiden, Riley and Cameron Wood, Porter and Russell Forcucci and nephew, Mark Erickson.

She was predeceased by: her husband, Henry J. McDonald; son, James McDonald; daughter, Verdie McDonald Hunt; son-in-law, Charles Hunt; daughter-in-law, Deborah McDonald; granddaughter, Paula Wood; brother, William Erickson; sister-in-law, Jane Erickson; stepmother, Viola Erickson; niece, Ellie Erickson and twin great-grandchildren, Kane and Kaylee McDonald.

Her family thanks her friends from Richardson Hall, St. Mark’s Church, Philmont Nutrition Center, Pine Haven Home, and especially Mary Potts, Paula Melnick, Bonnie Feller, Sharon Poucher, and Mike and Nancy from McNan’s Deli for all of their acts of kindness. Also, special thanks to those from the old neighborhood who returned years later to stop and visit Mrs. McDonald to show their appreciation for being included in the numerous car trips she so gladly provided. She was so happy to be remembered and appreciated.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 5, 2020 from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Philmont. Interment followed in Mellenville Union Cemetery. In memory of Mrs. McDonald call or visit a nursing home resident when restrictions are lifted.

Jennie J. Van Deusen (1928 – 2020)

HUDSON—Jennie J. Van Deusen, 92, of Hudson passed away Friday, September 4, 2020.

Born May 29, 1928 in Hudson, she was the daughter of Warclaw and Marianna Bialoskurski.

A lifelong area resident, she was a homemaker who loved yard sales and Avon products (especially perfume bottles).

Mrs. Van Deusen is survived by: her sons, Richard Van Deusen and Walter Van Deusen; daughters, Linda Van Deusen and Mary Szlachetka; grandchildren, Richard, Jeffrey, Michael, Gina, Ray, Matthew, and Michael; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, LeRoy (Walt) Van Deusen and six brothers and sisters.

Funeral services at the Bates & Anderson- Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson will be held Tuesday, September 8 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be prior to services will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
