Betty Lou Schatt
ROUND ROCK, TX—Betty Lou Schatt passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, April 13, 2018.
She was born in Flushing to Joseph T. Schatt and Louisa May Davis.
Ms. Schatt was raised in College Point. She moved to long-held family property in Ghent in 1948 and then pursued her studies to become a registered nurse in Pittsfield, MA. She then studied nursing anesthesia in Minneapolis, MN, and spent the rest of her career in Minnesota, Massachusetts, and finally New York, as a nurse anesthetist.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Priscilla and brother, Joseph T. Schatt.
Ms. Schatt is survived by: her sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Rutger de Quay and her five nieces and nephews, Laurence, Suzanne, David, Monique and Roger and their families.
Funeral and burial services will be arranged at the convenience of the family.
Arlene L. Lamb (1918 – 2018)
ALBANY—Arlene Louise Lamb, 99, of Kinderhook died Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Albany Medical Center.
She was born October 26, 1918 in Kirkland, the daughter of the late Ralph Robert and Doris Ida (Davenport) Frost.
She grew up in the tight-knit community of Munnsville and maintained her interest in the people and her family there.
She was happiest spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The great-grandkids loved visiting their “GG.”
Mrs. Lamb loved having family and friends around her, taking care of them, cooking, laughing, playing cards and reminiscing over photographs. She also enjoyed her extensive perennial gardens.
She is survived by: three children, Karen Godfrey (Paul) of North Chatham, Galen Rueckwald (Carole) of Hudson, Richard Lamb of Chazy; five grandchildren, Justin Godfrey (Angela), Erica Rueckwald, Michael Rueckwald (Catrina), Darrell Lamb and Rachel Gorgas (Daniel); six great-grandchildren, Ryan, Sydney, Vivienne, Dylan, Bradley and Everett; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Lamb; a sister, Laura Hughes and her daughter-in-law, Sarah Lamb.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 20, noon at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with the Reverend Rudy Visser officiating. Burial will follow in Kinderhook Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valatie Rescue Squad, P.O. Patricia A. Nieto (1954 – 2018)
GHENT—Patricia A. (Kerner) Nieto passed away at home April 13, 2018.
Born September 20, 1954 in Daytona Beach, Florida, she was the daughter of the late George and Nancy Welch Kerner.
Mrs. Nieto was a stay-at-home mom and it brought her great joy being there for her daughter, Jenny while she grew up. She loved cooking and baking. Mrs. Nieto was a Brownie leader in Ghent and was the first female driver in the Columbia County Fair Demolition Derby.
She is survived by: her husband, Richard; daughter, Jennifer (Rich Bonsall) Nieto; her siblings, George (Gail) Kerner, Donna Kerner Mosley, Christopher (Melinda) Kerner and Michael (Wendy) Kerner; father-in-law, Walter (Kathy) Nieto; in-laws, Barry (Karen), Steven (Jan), Kenneth (Bess) and Cynthia Butler; her many nieces, nephews, grand-niece and grand-nephews, who always brought a smile to her face; her aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was predeceased by: her mother-in-law, Margaret Nieto and her son, Jeremy David.
Mrs. Nieto’s lifelong wish was to donate her body to the Albany Medical College. Funeral services will be at a later date.

Stephen Hawkins (1934 – 2018)
PITTSFIELD, MA—Stephen Hawkins, intermittent lifelong resident of New Lebanon, died April 16 at the age of 83.
After graduating from Darrow School, he served in the Marines for three years. He then married Peggy Victoria of New Lebanon and New York City. Together they moved south where he received his bachelor’s degree in ancient history from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. After graduation he taught history at Choate School in Wallingford, CT, for eight years. Mr. Hawkins was a housemaster and a soccer, hockey and golf coach.
The Hawkins family moved back to New Lebanon in 1970. He and his wife became members of the Lebanon Valley Protective Association, serving on the ambulance for many years. Mr. Hawkins was the evening photographer for the Berkshire Eagle for 10 years.
He is survived by: his wife and their four children, Vicki (John) Burgess of New Lebanon, Jonathan Hawkins of Burlington, VT, Alexander (Christine) Hawkins of Mesa, AZ, and William Hawkins of Lahaina, HI; and five grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, April 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, 457 State Route 43, Stephentown. Edward D. Kostzenskie (1961 – 2018)
CLAVERACK—Edward D. Kostzenskie, 57, of Claverack passed away April 11, 2018.
He was born January 16, 1961, the son of John Kostzenskie and Betty Jane (Hoag) Rawlings.
Mr. Kostzenskie worked as a corrections officer for New York State at Greene Correctional Facility before retiring.
He was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed playing softball and was a fifth-degree black belt. Also he enjoyed lifting weights, working out and keeping in shape.
His greatest love was for his son; Ryan.
Mr. Kostzenskie is survived by: his loving son, Ryan; his sisters, Julia and her husband Gary Hodges, and Tina and her husband Jim Kerr; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Moore, and his nephew, Shawn Moore.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 16, 2018 at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church, Hudson. Interment followed in Stuyvesant Falls Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
Katherine Boswell (1923 – 2018)
PHILMONT—Katherine “Betty” Boswell, 95, of Philmont passed away Saturday, April 14 at Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born January 24, 1923 in Hudson, she was the daughter of John and Edna (Schermerhorn) Moore.
Mrs. Boswell lived her entire life in Columbia County. She retired from the Taconic Hills School District after 20 years in food service. She was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Philmont and the American Legion Post 252 Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include: her sister-in-law, Jennie Boswell; dear friends, Chris and Carol Carlsen, and her beloved dog, Chrissy. She was predeceased by her husband, Elwood.
Funeral services were held April 17 from the Philmont United Methodist Church. Interment was in Mellenville Union Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
Anthony Wise (1944 – 2018)
HUDSON—Anthony Wise, born June 3, 1944, passed away peacefully at home, March 27, 2018.
He was predeceased by his mother, Bernice Griffin; father, Frederick Wise and brother, Frederick Wise, Jr.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: son, Anthony Wise Patterson (Cynthia); daughters, Marlo Wise Fordham (Kevin) and Opal Carr (Dorian); 11 grandchildren, Imani, Jasmine, Cimone, Christian, Camore, Nazir, Zacharius, Megan, Dorian, Derrace and Pia; a brother, Ricardo Wise and Tyrone Hines; sister, Margo Wise; four aunts, Ruth Scott, Ruby Tillman, Gloria Griffin and Ernestine Griffin; many nieces and nephews and devoted friend, Michelle Sheckells.
Mr. Wise was known and loved by many. He will be dearly missed.

Eulalee Prince (1960 – 2018)
HUDSON—Eulalee Prince 57, of Hudson died Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born October 17, 1960 in Clarendon, Jamaica, she was the daughter of Alfanso and Mavis (Spencer) Prince.
She was a home healthcare aide for Unlimited Health Care in Hudson.
Ms. Prince is survived by: her brothers, Richard, David and Wayne Prince, Carlton Harvey and Anthony Gardner and sisters, Michelle, Winsome and Lorna Prince. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Burial will be in Linlithgo Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.
Louis F. Krutz (1948 – 2018)
GREENPORT—Louis Francis Krutz, 69, of Greenport passed away peacefully at home in the company of his family, Wednesday April 11, 2018.
Born July 19, 1948 in Catskill, he was the son of the late Louis E. and Nancy Ann (Dougherty) Krutz.
Mr. Krutz was a child care counselor and retired after many years from Kinderhof Group Home in Valatie. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Krutz was a life-member of Becraft Pumper Company #2 in Greenport.
He will be greatly missed by: his beloved wife, Ruth Ann (Christiana) Krutz at home; one son, Louis and (Kristen) Krutz of Trinity, FL; one daughter Kelly and (Charles) Centrelli of Glen Rock, NJ; one sister, Karen Krutz of Windham; grandchildren, Janna, Haley and Lucas Krutz, Charlie and Kieran Centrelli.
Funeral services were held April 17, 2018 at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport with Pastors Louis Krutz, Jr., and Randy Anson officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant Rural Cemetery in Greenport.
Goldie M. Simmons (1928 – 2018)
ALBANY—Goldie Mary Simmons, 89, of Hudson passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Hudson, August 18, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Etta (Niebergal) Kern.
Mrs. Simmons retired after many years from housekeeping in Columbia Memorial Hospital. She was a life-member of the Hudson VFW.
She will be greatly missed by: her sons, Raymond I., Jr., and (Joan) Simmons of Cape Cod, MA, William Simmons of Hudson; two daughters, Carol DeAngelo of Hudson and Michiko Bu; three sisters, Lolita Simmons of Ghent, Gwen Ingraham of Greenport and Nancy Finger of Albany; many grandchildren, great- and great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond I. Simmons, Sr., as well as, one son, Arthur.
Prayers were offered at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport, April 13, 2018. Burial followed in Mellenville Union Cemetery.
