Edith M. Rogers (1927 – 2016)

DELMAR—Edith M. Rogers, a resident of Good Samaritan Nursing Home of Delmar and formerly of Germantown, died Sunday July 31, 2016 at the nursing home.

Born January 29, 1927 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte (Schweitzer) Graft.

Prior to her retirement she was the executive secretary for the Civil Service Commission of Greene County for 19 years. She was active in the Reformed Church of Germantown and was a member of the Circle 8 Square Dancing club.

Survivors include: two sons, Scott Moore of Schenectady and Darrell Moore of Florida; a daughter, Donna Rich of Athens; her sister, Laurie Singer of Chicago and four grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two husbands, Mack Moore and Willard Rogers; as well as, a sister, Charlotte Marriot.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 3, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown, with services at 3 p.m.

Burial will follow in the Reformed Church Cemetery in Germantown.

Diane M. VanTassel (1958 – 2016)

CANAAN—Diane M. VanTassel, 58, of Canaan passed away peacefully Sunday, July 31, 2016 at home surrounded by her family.

She was the daughter of Charles J. and Beatrice (Janes) Broderick of Chatham. She grew up in Chatham and graduated from Chatham High School.

She was a QA inspector at Sonoco Crellin Plastics and was employed there for nearly 40 years. She celebrated 28 years of marriage to John N. VanTassel of Canaan.

She was predeceased by her father, Charles J. Broderick and stepson, Mark VanTassel.

She is survived by: her mother; devoted, loving husband, John N. VanTassel of Canaan; stepson, Christopher VanTassel of Virginia; three sisters, Louise (Harry) Munson of Stuyvesant, Karen (John) Raible of Deland, Florida, and Sandra Nadeau of Franklin, New Hampshire, and many adoring nieces and nephews.

Mrs. VanTassel loved decorating and gardening, she had incredible talent. She was a superior cook and loved to cook for her family. She loved traveling and camping with her husband.

She also loved animals, adopting cats and giving them a good home.

She passed away much too soon and will be missed by all who loved her.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 3, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 4, 11 a.m. at St John the Baptist Church by Fr. George Flemming.

Interment will follow at St John’s Cemetery.

Geoffrey Michael Howard (1971 – 2016)

COPAKE—On Friday July 29, 2016, surrounded by his wife and family, Geoffrey Michael Howard, at age 45, left the pain and suffering of his courageous battle with cancer in the arms of the Angels.

He was born the son of Dion Michael Howard and Elizabeth Denise Corwin Tator, June 8, 1971 in Poughkeepsie. He was raised upstate New York and attended Beacon and Germantown schools.

Mr. Howard was known for his big heart and willingness to help anyone, as long as they were trying to help themselves. He loved his family, fast cars, music, amusement parks and bubble gum. Mr. Howard loved working on engines and driving the toys he modified. New York is where he met his beautiful wife, Jana Howard. They moved to Tennessee and settled into the community of Portland to raise their children. Coaching his children’s softball and football teams, Mr. Howard made a difference in the lives of many young people. He encouraged them in ways beyond coaching. He and Jana built their marriage around helping people, working hard and having fun. His philosophy was work hard–play harder, and due to this, always attracted a houseful of the young and/or young at heart. Every weekend you could catch him in in the garage with his son, Alex, working on anything from motorcycles, go-carts and hot rods, to lawn mowers.

Mr. Howard instilled in his children, nieces and nephews the need to be independent and self-sufficient, and the importance of hard work and respect. He loved many sports, while he excelled in bowling, he enjoyed and gave his all toward any sport and loved competition. He was an avid Steelers fan. His daughter, Daya loved to watch football with her daddy. He will be deeply missed by all.

Surviving are: his wife, Jana Marie Howard; daughters, Tiffany Marie Buffa-Howard, Hannah Elizabeth Howard, Daya Marie Howard; son, Alex Michael Howard and wife Stephanie; granddaughter, Raelyn; mother, E. Denise Tator; sisters, Marge McGill and husband Jim, Allison Pidoto and husband Joey, Madlyn Howard, Rosann Sky and husband Jeff; as well as a multitude of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dion Michael Howard and brother, Vincent Michael Howard.

Friends are invited and may call Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 State Route 22 in Copake. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in the Niver Cemetery, Craryville.

Charles J. Navins (1933 – 2016)

LIVINGSTON—Charles J. Navins, 82, of Germantown died July 31, 2016 at Livingston Hills Nursing Home.

Born December 17, 1933 in Tivoli, he was the son of the late James and Myra (Denegar) Navins.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed in maintenance at the Astor Home of Rhinebeck.

He enjoyed attending the functions at the Hudson Valley Old Time Power Association.

Surviving are: his son, Peter Navins of Linlithgo; daughter, Catherine Rivenburg of Saugerties; grandsons, Kevin Navins, Hunter Rivenburg and Devon Rivenburg and great-grandson Jason Rivenburg.

He was predeceased by his wife, Joan, who died November 9, 1995 and a brother, Robert Navins.

Calling hour will be held Monday, August 8, 10 to 11 a.m. at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown. Graveside services will follow at St. Sylvia’s Cemetery in Tivoli.
