Ruth V. Rivenberg (1921 – 2015)

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL—Ruth V. (Garner) Rivenberg, formerly of Lanesborough, Massachusetts, passed away July 3, 2015 at the Marliere HPH Hospice after a period of declining health. She was 93 years old.

She was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, November 10, 1921, the daughter of Claude H. Garner and Katherine (Vary) Garner.

After her mother’s early death, she found comfort and support in the homes of her grandmother, Maude Vary, and her aunt, Beatrice (Vary) Whitney. A graduate of Pittsfield High School, she had fond memories of her part-time jobs taking tickets at the Strand cinema and giving boat tours of Pontoosuc Lake as pilot of the Sheila.

Following high school Mrs. Rivenberg attended nursing school at Hillcrest Hospital and worked for a doctor in private practice. In 1947 she married Sterling R. Rivenberg, a World War II veteran and lineman for the Western Massachusetts Electric Company. They settled in Lanesborough, Massachusetts and became members of the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield.

She loved camping, knitting and organizing large family dinners or picnics for almost every holiday occasion. An avid reader of mystery and historical novels, she also enjoyed annual trips to New York City with the Women’s Club of Pittsfield with her family and friends.

After her husband’s retirement, she moved with him to Florida, where they made their home in Brooksville. After her husband’s death in 2000, she remained in the central Florida area.

She is survived by: twin sons, Paul Rivenberg of Boston, Massachusetts, and Peter Rivenberg of Washington, DC; two step-daughters, Bette Page of Hudson, Florida and Joyce Snow of Chatham; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A private funeral service will be held at Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Avenue, Chatham, Saturday, July 11 with interment to follow at the Chatham Center Cemetery.

Robert Geraghty (1924 – 2015)

ALBANY—Robert “Bob” J. Geraghty passed away July 6, 2015 at Albany Medical Center at the age of 91.

He was born in the Bronx, January 16, 1924 to Joseph and Margaret (Cotter) Geraghty. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School, Fordham University and Brooklyn Law School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Geraghty played basketball for St. Joseph’s Parish in the Bronx where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Hogan, to whom he was married for 66 happy years. They moved to Montrose in 1961. He joined the NYC Police Department, later became a court officer and eventually the chief court clerk for the Bronx Supreme Court. Mr. Geraghty retired in 1987. He and his wife moved to North Chatham in 1988. Throughout his life he loved his family, his home, the NY Mets, the NY Giants and golf. He was a former member of Winding Brook Country Club in Valatie.

Mr. Geraghty is survived by: his loving and devoted wife, Marilyn; four daughters, Patricia (David) Renaud of Schodack, Jean (Thomas Bailly) Geraghty of Valatie, Lori (James) Cameron of Valatie, Lisa (John) McHugh of Hopewell Junction; 11 grandchildren, Daniel (Molly) Renaud, Kevin (Erica) Renaud, Terence (Jenni) Renaud, Dan (Meghan) Taney, Tim (Brooke) Taney, Patrick (Yanna) Taney, Kate, Robert and Keith Tritto, Erin and Melissa McHugh; five great-grandchildren, Jack, Sania, Ryan and Robert Geraghty Taney and Lucy Hogan Renaud. He is also survived by a brother, Thomas (Gertrude) Geraghty of Sunset Beach, NC, and a sister, Joan Walsh of Setauket; several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family thanks the attending physician, nurses and staff on C8 at Albany Medical Center for their kindness and compassion during Mr. Geraghty’s final days. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm Street, Nassau, Wednesday July 8 from 3 to 7 p.m. The funeral will take place from the Mooney Funeral Home, Thursday July 9 at 9:15 a.m. and from St. Mary’s Church in Nassau at 10 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
