Roger W. Proper (1934 – 2015)
GERMANTOWN—It is with great sadness that the family of Roger William Proper announces his passing, March 26. At the age of 80, he succumbed to his valiant struggle with cancer.
Born in 1934 to Vivian and Miles Proper, he grew up in Columbia County, the youngest of four. Graduating as a Blue Hawk, he joined the Marines and served his country with honor in Korea. He rose to the rank of sergeant and “was a radio operator -. .. ,Ooh-Rah.”
After leaving the Marines, he married the love of his life Elizabeth Rose Skoda and set roots in Germantown. He started working at IBM and retired there after 30 years, establishing many lifelong friends and relationships. During this time he and his wife raised seven children: Margaret (Gary) Algozzine, Roger (Linda) Proper, David (Mary Ann) Proper, Susan (Vincent) Randazzo, Patricia (Michael) Brugger, Daniel (Patricia) Proper, Maria (Daniel) Hart, “with a total of 18 incredibly smart grandchildren.”
His commitment to his community was evident by his numerous volunteer contributions: little league coach, softball coach, cub scout leader, boy scout leader, conservationist, religious education teacher, Clipper booster, school board member, American Legion officer/cook, Meals-On-Wheels volunteer, Salvation Army ringer, Holy Trinity lector, faithful parishioner, good listener and average golfer.
He cherished his friends and neighbors, and enjoyed their company greatly.
During his later life, he enjoyed traveling and spending his winter months in the sunny community of Anna Maria Island, where he met his beloved friend, Marie Kraft. He touched many people with his easy smile and acceptance. His family will be forever at a loss without their father and friend.
Services were Tuesday, March 31 from the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown, and at the Holy Trinity Parish Germantown Church of the Resurrection, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated.

John Lawrence Flynn (1931 – 2015)
HUDSON—John Lawrence Flynn was the only child of John Maurice Flynn and Elizabeth Perry Flynn. He was born August 2, 1931 in Hudson and lived most of his life in the Hudson area. He passed away at Columbia Memorial Hospital, March 12, 2015.
Mr. Flynn attended St. Mary’s Academy in Hudson and graduated in 1948. From there he went on to Manhattan College in the Bronx, and graduated with a degree in engineering. He attended Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, on an Atomic Energy Program scholarship. He earned an MS in industrial hygiene.
He worked in the Nuclear Submarine Program on the Nautilus and Sea Wolfe submarines, receiving recognition for his work from President Richard Nixon. He also participated in several projects for the Nuclear Protection Program, some of which were at General Electric, Schenectady.
Mr. Flynn returned to Hudson as a self-employed consulting engineer, which he did until his retirement. He was an avid reader and loved all kinds of music. He leaves a large library of books, magazines and CDs. He was an accomplished wood worker and used his extensive collection of wood working tools.
He is survived by: his daughter and son-in-law, Nikki (Nicolien E.) and Steven Needham of West Ghent and their dogs and cats, which he loved to have around him. Mr. Flynn will be cremated and buried in the Hudson cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Myrtle A. Burdick (1930 – 2015)
LIVINGSTON—Myrtle A. Burdick, 84, of Elizaville passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 26, 2015 at Livingston Hills Nursing Center.
Born April 14, 1930, she was the daughter of Lee and Ida (Proper) Wheeler.
On September 9, 1949 in Ancram, she married Lewis O. Burdick and together they raised their three children. Mr. Burdick died in 2006.
Mrs. Burdick is survived by: a daughter, Gail Jones of Elizaville; sons, Gary E. Burdick of Elizaville and Glen Burdick of Catskill; brothers, Gordon Wheeler of Wyoming and Raymond Wheeler of Kansas; a sister, Beulah Burns of PA; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Burdick was predeceased by brothers, Howard, Peter and Albert Wheeler and a sister, Wanda Loeber.
There are no calling hours.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Lila Mae Aldrich (1933 – 2015)
ALBANY—Lila Mae Aldrich, 82, of Chatham passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Born February 21, 1933 in Columbia County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Lydia Flouton.
Besides being a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Aldrich enjoyed bowling, band concerts, puzzles, crocheting and vacationing with family. She was predeceased by her former husbands, Ronald Haner and Hubert Aldrich, as well as her brother, Ralph Flouton.
She is survived by: her sister, Dorothy Loyd of Chatham; her three children, Bonnie (Joseph) Hahn of East Chatham, Norman (Michelle) Haner of Chatham and Wendy (Robert) Kenney of Chatham; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
There will be a celebration of her life April 12, 2015, 1 p.m. at the home of Wendy Kenney, 2380 Route 66, Chatham. Dorothy Clark (1954 – 2015)
RED HOOK—Dorothy Marie “Dottie” Clark, 61, of Red Hook passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015.
Born March 15, 1954, in Rhinebeck, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Doppler) Mickler.
She was a graduate of Red Hook High School, class of 1972. She married Jonathan Clark, May 14, 1977 and he survives at home in Red Hook.
For more than 25 years, Mrs. Clark worked at MetLife in Kingston in their human resources department. Following MetLife, she continued to work in HR for both Kaz, Inc., and Flanders, Inc., both based in Hudson.
A loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend, Mrs. Clark enjoyed boating, camping and vacationing by the beach.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by: two stepsons, Jonathan Clark, Jr., and his wife Maxine of Wappinger Falls and David Clark and his wife Mara of Rotterdam; her siblings, Robert A. Mickler and his wife Chris of Raleigh, NC, Diane Ceasar and her husband Glen of Germantown, Susan Humet and her husband Joseph of Land O Lakes, FL, Carol Mickler of Red Hook, Joan Mickler of Red Hook and Patrick Mickler and his wife Staci of Austin, TX; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Melanie Moore (1957 – 2015)
RHINEBECK—Melanie R. Moore, 58, of Tivoli passed away Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Born February 24, 1957, in Rhinebeck, she was the daughter of the late Cortland and Marie (DuBois) Holt.
She married Gary D. Moore, July 2, 1977 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Red Hook. He survives at home in Tivoli.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by: her sons, Jeremy (Amy) Moore of Red Hook and Daniel (Jenn) Moore of Livingston; a sister, Lisa Gelinas of Red Hook; her grandchildren, Joshua, Morgan, Samantha and Jace; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family and friends.
Services were held at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook, Friday, March 27. Fr. Fred Cartier officiated. Burial was at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
