Charles C. Poppiti (1922 – 2014)
GHENT—Charles C. Poppiti, 92, of Hudson, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Whittier Nursing Center.
Born May 18, 1922 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Pellegrino) Poppiti.
He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Phyllis “Felicina” E. (Cavallari) Poppiti, August 7, 2014.
Mr. Poppiti was the last to pass away from his blended family of eight children. He was a lifelong resident of Hudson.
Mr. Poppiti was the owner and operator of McKenna’s Bar and Restaurant in Hudson. He was a kind and gentle man who loved and supported his family. He was beloved by his family and friends.
He was a 50-year-member of the Hudson Elks Club and a member of St. Mary’s Church.
He leaves: his devoted children, his daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Dr. Howard Lubin of Devon, Pennsylvania, and his son, Joseph Poppiti of Albany; four loving grandchildren, Bradford Oberwager of San Francisco, Jane Scalcione of Milan, Italy, Andrew Oberwager of New York, and Elisabeth Lubin of Devon, Pennsylvania; three loving great-grandchildren, Lauren and Lucas Oberwager of San Francisco and Isabella Scalcione of Milan; many nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held Saturday, November 29, 11:30 a.m. at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 429 East Allen Street, Hudson at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery. Alice Bozik (1927 – 2014)
HUDSON—Alice Bozik, 87, died Wednesday, November 26 at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born April 12, 1927, in Masaryktown, FL.
For many years, she and her late husband, Joseph Bozik, operated a dairy farm in Ghent.
She was predeceased by her parents, John Jandacka and Helen Sopko, along with two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Bozik was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. Before marriage, she was employed by Guarantee Trust Bank in New York City assembling shipping manifests for Army supplies during World War II. She married and settled in Ghent in 1950, raising her sons.
She was a member of the Church of St. Joseph’s in Stottville and enjoyed gardening and crafting. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, the former West Ghent Ladies Auxiliary, past long-time treasurer of both the Stuyvesant Senior Citizens and Ghent/Chatham Senior Citizens Groups, and loved to travel with the groups and family.
She is survived by: one brother, George (Jelia) Jandacka of New Port Richey, FL; sons, Joseph of Washington, DC, and Daniel and Cindy (Reed) Mrs. Bozik’s loving “daughter”-in-law) of Ghent; grandchildren, Rebecca (Steve) Taylor, Patrick (Kate) Bozik, Tara (Job) Thomas and Olivia Bozik; great-grandchildren, Noah, Samuel, Natalie, Alexandra and Silas; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Sunday, November 30, 3 to 6 p.m. at M. Grimaldi Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Monday, December 1,10 a.m. at Church of St. Joseph, 2824 Atlantic Avenue, Stottville, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Stuyvesant Falls.

David McMann (1953 – 2014)
GHENT—David McMann of Ghent died at his home, November 27, 2014.
Born October 6, 1953 in Hudson, he was the son of Joan and the late Harry McMann.
He grew up and was educated in Chatham. After school he went on to work various jobs. His real love was classic rock music and he showed that through his guitar.
He is survived by his mother Joan; wife, Jennifer; daughter, Jessica; sons, Matthew and James Miles, Derek and David McMann, Jr.; sisters, Linda Cook, Deanna Schermerhorn; brother, Harry McMann.

Therese Marie VanAlstyne Brown (1974 – 2014)
HUDSON—Therese Marie VanAlstyne Brown, 40, of Chatham died Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
She was the beloved daughter of King VanAlstyne and Priscilla McArthur; sister of Kindra VanAlstyne; granddaughter of Lorraine McArthur and loving and proud mother of Jordan, Kyleigh and Isaiah Brown.
Born September 13, 1974, in Hudson, Ms. Brown was a lifelong resident of Columbia County. She graduated from Chatham High School with the class of 1992.
After working for Taconic Telephone and FairPoint Communications, she was a cherished member of the Mary E. Dardess Elementary School staff.
Ms. Brown is survived by: her parents, King VanAlstyne and Priscilla McArthur; grandmother, Lorraine McArthur; sister, Kindra VanAlstyne; partner, Jeremy Van Ness; three children, Jordan, Kyleigh and Isaiah Brown and step-son Tevin Van Ness. She also leaves behind an extended network of very loving aunts, uncles, nephews and close friends.
