Bill Poetzsch

William C. Poetzsch (1955 – 2023)

ALBANY—William “Bill” Charles Poetzsch, 67, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer January 24, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He passed in the same manner in which he lived his life… by never giving up.

He was born in Connecticut to William and Gladys, December 28, 1955. He met Tina Cordato in 1981. He was an admired, inspirational father to his two children. He worked proudly as a regional logistics manager at Holcim for many years.

He loved sports and enjoyed working outdoors. He was a passionate youth boys and girls soccer coach in the local community for a number of years. He was steadfast in teaching others what he learned himself. He uniquely knew how to go from where he was to where he wanted to be. He had an impact on many of the lives around him.

Mr. Poetzsch is survived by: his devoted wife of 34 years, Tina Poetzsch; his daughter, Alex Poetzsch; son, William Poetzsch; his mother, Gladys Poetzsch; sister, Sherry Miller; brother, Micheal Poetzsch; many nieces and nephews and furry companion, Zucc.

The family extends its gratitude to the healthcare workers, especially the medical ICU team, who treated him at Albany Med in his last few weeks.

Calling hours will be held to honor Mr. Poetzsch at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home in Valatie, Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.

Teresa Quinones

Teresa Quinones (1934 – 2023)

HUDSON—Teresa Quinones, 88, of Greenport died Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born October 15, 1934 in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Bonifacio and Cecilia (Quinones)Vasquez. She was a faithful communicant of Holy Trinity Parish in Hudson. She worked many years for Atlas Refrigeration Mfg. in Hudson and greatly loved maintaining and working in her flower garden at home.

She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, Juan Pabellon Diaz at home; her son, Edwin Pabellon and his wife Shanatia of East Greenbush; her daughter, Olga X. Pabellon of Hudson; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sacco Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Funeral services will be Friday, February 3, 2023 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Winston Bath officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery. Karen Teets

Karen L. Teets (1954 – 2023)

GHENT—Karen Leigh Teets, 68, of New Hartford, NY, died peacefully surrounded by her close family January 30 after a brief and unexpected bout with cancer. A kind and generous soul, she attended Mass daily at Mary Mother of Our Savior Parish in Utica.

She graduated from Germantown Central School District and Columbia-Greene Community College, both with honors. After putting herself through college and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Albany, she went on to pursue her professional designation as a chartered property casualty underwriter. She spent her entire professional career working for the Hartford Insurance company on the quality assurance team.

She had several hobbies, a favorite was counted cross stitch. She specialized in hand knit Christmas stockings for newborn babies of her family and friends.

She was an avid reader and took pride in completing the New York Times crossword puzzle daily. She was also proud of her extensive knowledge of anything having to do with apples. She spent her childhood on her family apple farm, where she was born in Winchester, VA.

After selling the farm, her family moved to Germantown to continue working in the apple industry.

She is survived by: her mother, Gene Himelright; her son, Antonio Abitabile (Meghan); her sisters, Beverley Tompkins (Ricki) and Sherry Barringer (David); a stepsister, Ginger Barker (John); stepbrother, Hank Himelright (Carise); her grandson, Gavin Abitabile; her granddaughter, Ellis Abitabile; a niece and several nephews. She was predeceased by her father, William Teets and stepfather, James Himelright.

At her request, there will be no viewing hours or funeral service. Upon her cremation, she will be reunited with her father when her ashes will be spread next to him at the Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, VA.

Her family thanks the staff at the Ghent Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate and unwavering care that she received during her brief stay at that facility. She placed a high value on education, so in lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Anything is Possible Scholarship Fund at the Lansingburgh Central School District, 55 New Turnpike Road, Troy 12182 or the Hudson Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Janet Torchia

Janet A. Torchia (1943 – 2023)

HUDSON—Janet A. Torchia, 79, of Philmont died Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born in the Bronx, July 9, 1943, she graduated as salutatorian from Ichabod Crane and pursued a career in nursing. She retired from Columbia Memorial Hospital. She was a life-member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was also a leader for the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts, as well as a junior and senior girls softball coach.

She enjoyed reading, crocheting and family ancestry research. Most of all she enjoyed the many vacations and gatherings with family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Anne Maher and George Van Staveren; stepfather, Paul Yaeger;her beloved husband of 54 years, Anthony J. Torchia who died in 2016 and her son, Michel Torchia in 1967.

She will be greatly missed by: her son, Anthony (Bonnie) Torchia of Churchtown; daughter, Michelle (James) Edgeworth of Hollowville; granddaughters, Michelle Shultis, Nicole (Michael) Lucarello, Elizabeth (Andrew) Eggleston, Rebecca (Alex) Kipp; great-grandchildren, Carter Eggleston and Kaiden Kipp; Joseph Yaeger; Carl (Kathy) Yeager; several nieces and nephews; special nephew, David (Kathleen) Walker and great-niece, Katie (Evan) Young.

Calling hours will be held Friday, February 3, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sacco Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Services will be held the morning of Saturday, February 4 at the funeral home at a time to be announced. Burial will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery Hudson.

Grace Ruso

Grace Ruso (1930 – 2023)

VALATIE—Grace Ruso, 92, of Valatie passed away peacefully January 30, 2023 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell. A graveside service will be held Monday, February 6, 2 p.m. in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie.

Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home.

 

Linda Dickson

Linda L. Dickson (1947 – 2023)

VALATIE—Linda Lee Dickson, 75, of Valatie passed away peacefully January 30, 2023. Born September 19, 1947 in Glen Cove, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Harriet (Grimm) Bachman and the wife of the late George R. Dickson.

Before retirement, she was a teacher at the Lindenhurst Junior High School in Lindenhurst.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant. She loved scrapbooking, cardmaking, puzzles, the New York Yankees, spending time with her family, donating her time to church activities and the St. Lukes’ Lutheran Church Women’s Group, Valatie.

She is survived by: her children, Janine (Rick) Lawrence of Valatie, Crista (Jose) Roman of Niverville and Heather Dickson of Castleton; her sister, Heidi Bender of Fairpont; her six grandchildren, Noah Malmborg, Adam Lawrence, Devin, Alaines “Ali”, Layla and Benjamin Roman; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Barbara Slater and two brothers, Kenneth and Richard Bachman.

Friends are invited for calling hours, Thursday, February 2, 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 3, 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church, Stuyvesant with the Reverend Dan Cohn officiating.
