Betty A. Plass (1926 – 2015)

PHILMONT—Betty A. Plass, 88, of Greenport passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.

Born August 17, 1926 in Czechoslovakia, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Buno) Cernak.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Henry V. Plass.

Mrs. Plass was a hairdresser and employed at various beauty salons in Hudson. Mr. and Mrs. Plass were active members of the Apple Valley Square Dancers. She was very devoted to St. Matthew’s Church and loved golfing and fishing.

Mrs. Plass is survived by her loving family and faithful friends.

A calling hour will be held Friday, June 12, 10 a.m. at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Joan Dwy (1938 – 2015)

KINGSTON—Joan Dwy, 77, of Lake Katrine, formerly a long-time resident of Ancram, passed away at Kingston Hospital, Wednesday, June 3, 2015.

She was born April 1, 1938 in Sharon, CT, the daughter of James Lewis and Theresa (Stillman) Pitcher.

Mrs. Dwy was a justice of peace for the Town of Ancram for more than 12 years.

On April 28, 1963 she married Ronald A. Dwy. He survives her at home.

In addition to her loving husband Ron, survivors include: a daughter, Susan Mercado Meyer and her husband Glenn of Kingston; a son, Gary Mercado and his wife Allison of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren, Lisa Mercado, Lori Mercado, Kelly Mercado Smith, Evan Mercado, Amethyst Meyer; three step-grandchildren, Chad Roy, Donavan Lefevre, Elaina Lefevre; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Lee C. Mercado, January 6, 2007.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral service and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to Hospice of Kingston, 400 Aaron Court, Kingston 12401.

Arrangements are with the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Route 22, Copake.

Mary G. Russette (1942 – 2015)

HUDSON—Mary G. Russette 73, of Hudson passed away June 8, 2015 after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Born in Queens, January 11, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Lillian and Walter Zipp.

She grew up in Germantown with her many siblings and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1960. After marrying in 1965, she had three children.

Divorced in 1980, she started her career with the New York State Department of Corrections in East Fishkill and worked there until she moved to Utica in 1989. There she continued her career until she retired from Marcy Correctional Facility in 2005.

Ms. Russette was a very artistic person and enjoyed many hobbies such as cooking, sewing, crafts, photography, painting and decorating. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a very strong woman who was very sociable, had many wonderful friends and enjoyed many happy times. Always full of life, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Ms. Russette is survived by: her sons, Marc, Michael and Nicholas; daughter-in-law, Laura; grandsons, Nicolas and Alexander; brothers, Walter Zipp and Jimmy Higginbotham; sister, Josephine and husband Joseph; sister, Barbara and husband Stanley; her cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 11, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown.

Services will be held Friday, June 12, 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Rural Cemetery in Greenport.

Beverly Ormsby (1953 – 2015)

HUDSON—Beverly Ormsby, 61, of Hudson, a lifelong area resident, died Friday, May 22, 2015 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born in Jamaica, July 25, 1953, she was the daughter of Constantine and Irene Ormsby.

Ms. Ormsby was a graduate of Hudson High School and was a home health aide for Comfort Keepers Health Care. She is survived by her son, Michael Morgan of Ravena.

Memorial service details are incomplete and will be announced.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.
