Yvonne B. DelGrande (1930 – 2017)
HILLSDALE—Yvonne Brownell DelGrande, 86, of Hillsdale passed peacefully Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at her residence after a long illness.
She was born December 26, 1930 in Rochester, to Fred and Charlotte (Fromm) Brownell.
Mrs. DelGrande received her nursing degree from the Rochester Genesee Hospital in 1951 and began her career there as an emergency room nurse. From 1952 to 1954 she was employed by the Visiting Nurses Association of Brooklyn and from 1954 to 1955 by the Merchant Marine Hospital in Brighton Beach. After taking time off to raise her family she began working for Dr. Irma Waldo in Hillsdale as a pediatric nurse from 1977 to 1987.
Active in the community, she was a former Brownie Scout leader from 1966 to 1970 and a 4H leader in 1976. For many years she served as an instructor and coordinator of religious education at St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church in Copake Falls. She was also instrumental in forming the bereavement committee at the church to assist families during difficult times.
Along with Dr. Irma Waldo she founded the Roeliff Jansen Community Hospice in the late 1970s and also began the Roeliff Jansen Chapter of Compassionate Friends.
On April 19, 1952 in Rochester, she married Dr. Patrick DelGrande.
Survivors include: her husband of 65 years, Dr. Patrick DelGrande of Hillsdale; her children, Charles and wife Patricia DelGrande of Chicago, IL, Michael and Heather DelGrande of Philadelphia, PA, Patricia DelGrande of San Francisco, CA, Lori and Patrick Sterrett of Indianapolis, IN, and Tom DelGrande of Cincinnati, OH; her grandchildren, Mary and Kathleen DelGrande of Chicago, IL, Zoe DelGrande of Philadelphia, PA, Kyle, Amy and Sophie Richards of San Francisco, CA, Michael, Travis and Zachary Sterrett of Indianapolis, IN, Alexander and Javier DelGrande of Cincinnati, OH, and Justin Johnson of Charlotte, NC.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Joy DelGrande in 1976.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday October 25, 2017, 10 a.m. from the Parish of Our Lady of Hope in Copake Falls with the Reverend George Brennan officiating. There are no calling hours.
Interment will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery.

Jerome Smith (1936 – 2017)
LIVINGSTON—Jerome “Jerry” Smith died October 19, 2017 at Livingston Hills Nursing Home.
He was born June 6, 1936 in Amityville, Long Island, the son of the late William H. and Margaret (Ewen) Smith.
Shortly after he graduated from Red Hook High School he moved to Florida. When he came back to the area he was a plumber working with his father at first then on his own. He retired in his early 70s. He enjoyed farming, boating and flying as a crop duster in Florida.
He was a member of the Red Hook Elks Lodge and the Hudson Boat Club.
Survivors include his children; Bob (Audrey) Smith, Kim (Dave) Bard, Lisa (Rich Fiorisi) Smith, Teresa (Craig) Bellanca, Shirley Smith Grucio, Jerome (Gretchen) Smith, Jr., a brother, William Smith; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 24, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown.
Services will be Wednesday, October 25, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in St. Sylvia’s Cemetery in Tivoli.

Robert J. Stiffler (1943 – 2017)
VALATIE—Robert J. Stiffler of Kinderhook passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at Barnwell Nursing Home.
Born March 2, 1943 in Chatham, he was the son of the late Alice (Kirby) and Calvin Stiffler and the husband of the late Soon Ae Nancy.
Mr. Stiffler was a Vietnam War veteran, who served from 1963 to 1968. Before his retirement, he was employed with the Columbia County Highway Department.
He is survived by: his son, Sean E. Stiffler of Kinerhook; his brother, Edward Stiffler of Hudson and his sister, Linda Dunham.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 23, 3 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. Calling hours will be that day from 1 to 3 p.m.
