Doris R. Morrarty (1922 – 2019)
LIVINGSTON—Doris Morrarty, a resident of Germantown for more than 50 years, passed away at Livingston Hills Nursing Home, September 12, 2019.
She was born in Worcester, MA, in 1922 and raised around Danielson, CT.
She served with the Waves (U.S. Navy) from 1943 and was discharged January 1, 1946. She attended basic training at U.S. Naval Training School in the Bronx and was subsequently stationed at Quonset Point, RI; Pensacola, FL, and finally at Kaneohe Bay, HI. While on active duty she was an AMM1, who tested and calibrated aircraft instruments such as altimeter and rate of climb. After discharge she attended Gordon College in Massachusetts and later transferred to Syracuse University where she obtained a master’s degree in education.
She married Stanley Morrarty, July 4, 1958. They moved to the Hudson Valley where she taught high school math and science at Germantown Central from 1957 to 1958.
While raising four children close in age she worked at the Training School for Girls in Hudson as a librarian and teaching math; as a substitute teacher and later as a bookkeeper. In later years she worked as a home health aide and with the Office for the Aging delivering meals. She also volunteered with RSVP, giving rides and as a literacy volunteer. Ms. Morrarty was an active member of the Germantown United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 346 in Germantown for many years.
She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Stanley; an older sister, Marion Vuilleumier of Cape Cod, MA; a younger brother, David Rawson of Fort Lauderdale, FL; a granddaughter, Serena Pitt of Craryville and a grandson, Christopher Van Alphen of Philmont.
She is survived by: a younger sister, Priscilla Tindall of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her four children, Terry (George) Tunstill of Germantown, Susan (Mike) Andren of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Sharon Morrarty of Arkville and Richard (Cathleen) Morrarty of Craryville; a stepson, Steve Hamilton of Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Johnson of Florida; four grandchildren, Steven (Hannah) Van Alphen of Poughkeepsie, David Tunstill of Germantown, Melissa Morrarty of Craryville and Jason Andren of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held mid-October or November at the convenience of the family.

Mary N. Cozzolino (1927 – 2019)
HUDSON—Mary Nancy Cozzolino passed away September 22, 2019 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born March 25, 1927 in Chatham, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore “Terry” and Concetta Christiana Cozzolino.
She graduated from Chatham Central in 1945 and was employed at GE in Pittsfield for 42 years.
She was a member of the GE Quarter-Century and Pensioner clubs.
Ms. Cozzolino belonged to the Ghent-Chatham Seniors, volunteered at the Mac-Haydn Theatre, Ghent Playhouse, and for many years at the Chatham Nutrition Site lunches for senior citizens.
She enjoyed traveling, bowling, dancing and aerobics. She was a communicant of St. James Church.
She is survived by: her loving sister, Anne Gardina and was a loving aunt to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Michael, Charles, Joe, Nick, Albert and Fred.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, September 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the French Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 26, 10 a.m. at St. James Church. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery.
