William Deming Miles (1939 – 2014)

SPRINGFIELD, MA—With his loving family and his minister, the Reverend John Hay, at his side, William Deming Miles of Mount Washington, MA, passed away peacefully November 21, 2014, at Bay State Medical Center from complications following a heart attack November 6.

He was born February 12, 1939, in Great Barrington, MA, the son of Collins Loewe Miles and Harriet Ruth Edmonds Miles. He graduated from Roeliff Jansen Central School, Copake in 1956, and attended Marlboro College, Marlboro, VT.

He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, and then began a 49-year career in the family business, Copake Lumber & Supply, Inc., Copake, which was started by his father in 1949.

He is survived by: his wife, Ruth Collins Bulkeley Miles, whom he married March 30, 1968; his brother, Peter Carroll Miles of Copake; his brother-in-law, Morgan G. Bulkeley and his wife Eleanor Tillinghast of Mount Washington; and many cousins on both the Miles and Edmonds sides of the family.

There will be a service celebrating his life June 21, 2015 at the Church of Christ, Mount Washington.

Interment in the Mount Washington Crossroads Cemetery is at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Mr. Miles’ memory may be made to any of the following: Camphill Village; Triform Camphill Community; Friends of Taconic State Park; Roeliff Jansen Community Library; Dollars for Scholars of Taconic Hills.

Donald W. Hanlon (1944 – 2014)

POUGHKEEPSIE—Donald W. Hanlon, 70, of Pine Plains passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 surrounded by his family at Vassar Brother’s Hospital.
He was born March 13, 1944 in Poughkeepsie, the son of John and Ruth (Poucher) Hanlon.
Mr. Hanlon was a deputy sheriff with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. He retired in 1992.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Calvary Division during the Vietnam War.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved spending time in his gardens.
On December 11, 2011 in Pine Plains, he married Ellen (Forshaw) Hanlon. She survives him at home.
In addition to his loving wife, Ellen survivors include: two daughters, Rebecca Hanlon of Milan and Christine Steepe of Rock Hill, SC; a son, Paul Hanlon of Stanfordville; step-sons, Mark Chapman of Hudson and Mike Chapman of Stanfordville; two sisters, Doris Delahanty of Pine Plains and Louise Erlich of Sharon, CT; a brother, George Hanlon of Stanfordville; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 13, 11 a.m. at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 7749 South Main Street, Pine Plains. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains, with a military honor guard.

Gladys Millius (1918 – 2014)

SALISBURY, CT—Gladys Millius, 96, of Ancramdale passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Noble Horizons.

She was born April 21, 1918 in Ancramdale, the daughter of Charles and Abbie (Brizzie) Boyles.

Mrs. Millius was the oldest member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Ancramdale.

She is survived by: a sister, Irene Dietter of Ancramdale; three brothers, Harold “Hezzie” Boyles of Ancramdale, Clifford “Red” Boyles, Sr., of Ancramdale, Robert Boyles, Sr. of Wassaic; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles P. Millius in 1980. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Cookingham and Susan Dietter and four brothers, William, Russell “Bus,” Henry “Pete”, Charles “June,” Jr.

Funeral service was held December 12 at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 7749 South Main Street, Pine Plains, with Pastor Carol Miller, officiating.

Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the First Presbyterian Church of Ancramdale 12503.
