Ollie M. Milem (1929 – 2015)

HUDSON—Ollie Marie Milem, age 85, of Valatie died Thursday, July 9, 2105 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born August 13, 1929 in Vale, WV, she was the daughter of the late Will Warren and Della (Wolford) Fox.

Mrs. Milem was an administrator for Meals on Wheels at the Senior Citizens Center in Crawley, West Virginia and at Resurrection Nursing Home in Castleton. She was an active member of the Soule Baptist Church in Greenbrier, WV.

She is survived by: four children, Gloria J. Clevenger of Hudson, Rosetta Ann Brammer of Rensselaer, Stephen Milem (Suzie) of Virginia and Donna LaTorre (Eric) of Valatie; eight grandchildren, Robert Clevenger, Jr., Brad Clevenger, Steven H. Milem, Shawn and Derick LaTorre, Jan Marie Ford, Stephanie and Billy Milem; 10 great-grandchildren, Summer Clevenger, Katelyn, Nathan and Aurora Milem, Tanner, Mason and Elliot Anne LaTorre, Emma Eren, Kyle and Kaylee Brammer. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard E. Milem.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14, 3 p.m. at Niverville United Methodist Church, 28 Church Street. Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the funeral at the church. Hyman Miller

GREENPORT—Hyman P. Miller died peacefully at home Thursday, July 9, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.

He was the owner of Sam’s Supermarket from 1974 until its closing. He was also a member of the Hudson Rotary Association, and a former member of the board of directors of the Hudson Area Association Library.

The son of Samuel Miller and Rose Colton Miller, he is survived by: his wife, Deborah, his children Sam and Sarah, and his sons-in-law Juancy Rodriguez and Eric Talent.

In dying, as in living, Mr. Miller was full of positivity, happiness and inappropriate humor, and in fact his last words were, “Nobody’s dying today.”

Services will be held at Bates & Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson, Sunday, July 12 at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the place that treated him so well for so long, New York Oncology Hematology, 69 Prospect Avenue, Hudson 12534.

Joshua Castillo-Rivera (1988 – 2015)

ALBANY—Joshua Castillo-Rivera, 26, of Canaan passed away suddenly July 9, 2015 following a motor vehicle crash in Nassau.

He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, later moving to Spanish Harlem and then to Canaan. He was predeceased by his mother, Ana Castillo and grandfather, Daniel Rivera-Guzman.

He is survived by his father, Pedro (Tito) Castillo of Ponce, Puerto Rico; his grandmother, Yvette Rivera-Gutierrez; his adoptive parents, Michael Billman and Helen Goerlitz of Canaan; his brother, Pedro Castillo-Rivera of Canaan; his two sisters, Johanna Castillo-Rivera from Jersey City, NJ, and Xiomara Castillo-Rivera of Albany and his nieces, Ana Torres, Ariana Gonzalez and Arianna Kennedy-Castillo.

Mr. Castillo-Rivera attended Chatham High School. He later acquired his high school diploma in a special program. A bright, intelligent fun-loving person, he lived and worked in the Bronx and Manhattan and most recently returned to Canaan. Mr. Castillo-Rivera enjoyed music, handball, playing hoops, video games and being with family and friends.

Marvin A. Pase (1943 – 2015)

SARATOGA—Marvin A. Pase of Castleton-on-Hudson died suddenly Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 71.

Born July 16, 1943 in Morrisdale, PA, he was the son of the late Arnold and Betty Pase.

Mr. Pase earned his bachelor’s degree in teaching at New York State Teacher’s College and his master’s in guidance counseling at SUNY Albany. Mr. Pase taught French for the first 10 years of his career and later became a guidance counselor for Hudson City School District, retiring in 2008 after 28 years.

Mr. Pase was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the Missions Board; in addition, served on the board of NAMI. He was a gifted gardener who enjoyed horseback riding. He was a member of Kappa Beta fraternity and loved spending time with his KB brothers. Everyone who met him remembered the warmth of his personality and the genuine affection with which he treated others. He was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed giving of his time and helping others. He touched the lives of countless people.

Mr. Pase is survived by: his wife, JoAnne L. (Striffler) Pase of Castleton; his daughter, Morgan B. Pase and his son, Seth C. Pase of Saratoga Springs. He is also the proud grandfather of Natalie A. Simpson-Pase.

In addition to his immediate family, survivors include: his beloved sister, Shalene A. Pase of Whitehall, PA; his brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas Vellela of Allentown, PA; and his nieces and nephew, Ashley (Josh) Flor of Fleetwood, PA, Erin Vellela (Daniel Len and Luca Vellela-Len) of Emmaus, PA, Evan Vellela of Philidelphia, PA, and his cousin, Brenda Franey of Winter Haven, FL.

A memorial service takes place at the First United Methodist Church, 1 Gilligan Road, East Greenbush, Tuesday, July 21 at 11 a.m. Entombment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.
