Robert P. Maleonskie (1934 – 2015)
RED HOOK—Robert P. Maleonskie, 80, a longtime Red Hook resident, passed away suddenly Friday, July 24, 2015, playing his favorite past-time sport, golf, with a close friend.
Born December 24, 1934, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Constance (Brock) Maleonskie.
He married Barbara Reed July 2, 1960 at St. Mary’s of Balboa, Panama Canal Zone.
Mr. Maleonskie served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his naval service, he served in the United States Coast Guard until he retired from service. He was a true American.
For many years, Mr. Maleonskie worked as the director of food services for St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He also worked as director at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck and Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. During his retirement, Mr. Maleonskie enjoyed many hours on the lawnmower, his Saturday morning breakfasts with the boys at the Elizaville diner, cooking omelets at the St. Christopher’s community breakfasts and time with his treasured family and friends.
Mr. Maleonskie was not only a communicant of St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook and an active member of their Holy Name Society, but also a member of Red Hook Post #7765 VFW.
In addition to Barbara, his loving wife of 55 years, he is survived by: his children, Lynda (Glen) Coon of Red Hook, Theresa Reed of Austin, TX, and Len (Tara) Maleonskie of Millbrook; his loving grandchildren, Glen Coon, Jr., of St. James, Darren Coon of Red Hook, Matthew Germinaro of LaGrange, Shane and Morgan Maleonskie of Millbrook; his sisters, Patricia (Robert) Phillips of St. Petersburg, FL, Patricia Thayer of Rhinebeck and Sue (John) Kehl of Tivoli; his brother, Walter Joseph Maleonskie of Hudson; along with nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook, Tuesday, July 28, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. The Red Hook VFW will conduct services at 7 p.m. and prayers will be offered at 7:15 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2015, 10 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook. Interment will be private at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Red Hook.

Kathryn G. Mergendahl (1930 – 2015)
SHARON, CT—Kathryn “Katie” G. Mergendahl, 84, of Pine Plains passed away at Sharon Health Care Center, Saturday, July 25, 2015.
Born December 24, 1930 in Pine Plains, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Christine (Wheeler) Finkle.
Ms. Mergendahl graduated from Stissing Mountain High School and worked for Heritage Mutual Insurance Company. She retired in 1992. She was also a member of the Pine Plains Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: three sons, Bruce Silvernale of Pine Plains, Gary Silvernale of Florida and Wayne and his wife Christine McBeth of Pine Plains; a daughter, Anna Rothvoss of Ancramdale and several grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Melvin Finkle.
Calling hours take place Sunday, August 2, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, Inc. 7749 South Main Street, Pine Plains.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 3 at 11 a.m. from the Pine Plains Presbyterian Church with Pastor Carol Miller officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains.

Zillah Dykeman (1923 – 2015)
RHINEBECK—Zillah M Dykeman, 92, a longtime Red Hook resident, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Born June 12, 1923, in Carmel, she was the daughter of the late Lester J. and Mary F. (O’Dell) Barrett.
She married Robert A. Dykeman and he predeceased her on March 20, 2003.
Mrs. Dykeman was a former active parishioner of the First Baptist Church in Rhinebeck.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, she is survived by: her loving children, Ronald (Bonnie) Davis of Pawling, the Rev. George (Deborah) Dykeman of Parkerville, KS, James (Jacqueline Fogarty) Dykeman of Saugerties, Mary (Gerard) Segreti of Kingston and Donna (Brian Day) M. Withrow of Rhinebeck; her siblings, Delmar Barrett of Stanfordville, Georgia Dinge of Dover Plains and Thelma Barrett of Cooperstown; 27 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. She is also survived by her close friend, Korreena Salerno and family of Germantown.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by eight siblings, Clifford, Edward, Ruth, Stanley, Herbert, Raymond, Adeline Barrett and Barbara Debyan.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook, Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 30, 2015, 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Frank L. Cirone and the Rev. George Dykeman will officiate. Burial will be at St. John’s Reformed Church Cemetery, Red Hook.

D. Lansing Barthel (1961 – 2015)
NORTH GREENBUSH—July 24, 2015 at the age of 54, D. Lansing “Lanny” Barthel entered into the hands of the Lord after an 11-year journey with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Victoria, and his two precious sons, Christopher and Samuel.
He was born February 20, 1961 to the late Donald H. and Wilma L. (Face) Barthel.
In addition to his faithful wife and sons, he is survived by: his sister, Donna (Keith) Roberts of Naples, FL; niece, Anna and great-nephew, Elijah of Bonita Springs, FL; brother-in-law, David (Corinne) Blacker and niece, Emily of New Lebanon; and his comforting companion, Roddy, the family Labradoodle.
A New Lebanon Central High School graduate in 1979, Mr. Barthel served four years of active Army duty followed by Army Reserve duty during which he was deployed to the Middle East during the Iran-Iraq War. He was employed by Curtis Lumber for 25 years in many capacities including dispatch, receiving, inventory and assistant manager prior to his initial diagnosis. He was respected by his peers and supported by management in all Curtis branches. He was identified by his coworkers as “the Ultimate Dad.” He worked a second job at the YMCA so his children could be educated at the Catholic, LaSalle Institute in Troy, and go to college. Mr. Barthel deeply valued the educations his children experienced and considered them among his greatest accomplishments. He loved bowling, tinkering with engines and reading.
His greatest attributes included his witty dry sense of humor, endless work ethic, selfless giving of his time to friends, family and strangers. His greatest pleasures included making his family happy, fulfilling their dreams, participating in his church and volunteering at his children’s educational institutions. He was happy to have experienced becoming a great uncle to Elijah who brought joy and laughter to his life. He provided a role model, mentor and paternal figure to his children’s friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael’s the Archangel, 175 Williams Road, Troy, Wednesday, July 29 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the D. Lansing Barthel Scholarship Fund for LaSalle Institute in Troy directed to Richard Eddings at LaSalle.
