Paul K. Isbester, Sr. (1939 – 2019)
KINDERHOOK—Paul Kenneth Isbester, Sr., 80, of Kinderhook passed away peacefully Thursday, September 26, 2019 at home in his sleep surrounded by his family.
Born September 18, 1939 in Hudson, he was the son the late Kenneth and E. Margaret (Powell) Isbester.
He attended school at Martin Van Buren in Kinderhook and graduated from the first graduating class at Ichabod Crane High School. While he was in school he played baseball, basketball and created a technical drawing of the new ICC High School for distribution as a map to new students. He joined the Army National Guard in 1959 and worked on the Isbester family farm. He assisted with various farming activities at the neighboring farms and worked a number of other odd jobs.
Mr. Isbester was a fine carpenter and in the mid-1960s, he partnered with Dan Warner. He was a master craftsman who built and remodeled numerous buildings, businesses, homes and barns throughout the region. His work was treasured for its honesty and quality. He retired in 2010 and along with his wife, traveled in their RV from Alaska to Florida and California to Maine. He was an avid golfer and participated in leagues at Winding Brook and Meadow Greens along with attending spring training trips to Florida. Mr. Isbester was honored with the distinguished Elk of the Year in 1980 from the Kinderhook Elks Lodge and enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, softball and hunting. Supporting his grandsons was always a priority and he attended many soccer games and track meets and other school events whenever possible.
Mr. Isbester is survived by: his wife, Donna Maureen (Lansley) Isbester; one son, Paul Kenneth Isbester, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Marjorie Olsen Isbester of Castleton; a brother, Mark Isbester of Valatie; two grandchildren, George Theodore and Aleck Jeffrey Isbester; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Arlene Oldrich.
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation Friday, October 4, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. Eugene N. Aleinikoff (1921 – 2019)
ANCRAM—Eugene N. Aleinikoff died peacefully September 27. He was 98.
He was a graduate of City College of New York and Columbia Law School. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II, helped break Japanese codes, and was among the first GIs to enter Japan. After the war he worked on the Marshall Plan. He devoted most of his professional life to public broadcasting, as counsel for the Public Broadcasting Service, National Public Radio, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and WNET. His clients included Julia Child, Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street. He also provided legal guidance to off-Broadway theater and dance. He was an expert, and taught law classes, on copyright law. He is survived by: his wife, Ann Hutchinson Gordon; five children, Joseph Bernheim (Ruth), Catherine Gwin, John (Debra), Tom (Rachel Cohen) and Nancy Silber (Norman); eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was married to Elizabeth Wise Aleinikoff from 1949 until her death in 1991. A native of New York City, he made the rolling farmland of Columbia County his home in his later years.
Capt. William A. Turco (1930 – 2019)
ALBANY—Captain William A. Turco, 89, of Athens passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019.
Born August 22, 1930 in Hudson, he was the son of Frank and Mary Turco.
He was a lifelong area resident, living in Greenport, prior to moving to Athens in 1996. He served in the United States Air Force from 1947 to 1949, and continued his education upon returning back to Hudson. Mr. Turco was a lineman for Verizon, and retired after 32 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed being a member of The Federation of Polish Sportsmen.
He is survived by: his children, Penny (Glen) Akin and David (Donna) Turco; grandchildren, Jennifer Akin, Christine Brandwood, Elizabeth Rae, Dacia Bozman and David Turco; seven great-grandchildren and longtime friend, Joyce Harkowa.
A visitation hour starting at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. will be held Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Bates & Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
Charles E. Hover, III (1945 – 2019)
ALBANY—Charles “Skip” E. Hover, III, 74, of Claverack passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019 in Albany.
Born January 12, 1945 in Albany, he was the son of Charles E. and Olga (Balla) Hover.
He was the owner-operator of the Claverack Service Station. He served his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966, and Army reserves until 1969. Mr. Hover was a lifelong NASCAR fan, and enjoyed attending races as often as he could. He was a member of the NRA, and the Hudson Powerboat Association, serving as past dock master. He was a devoted father, brother and friend who will truly be missed.
Mr. Hover is survived by: his daughter, Darci Ordway; his son, Charles E. Hover, IV, (Cindy); a grandson, Tyler Dunn; sister, Susan Kelly Engel and her husband Charles Engel; niece, Victoria Engel Fowles (James); nephew, Nicholas Engel (Denise), and special friend, Rita Hanson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Bonnie Jean (Kreig) Hover.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 4, 9 a.m. from the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Visitation hours at the funeral home are Thursday, October 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Hover may be made to the New York State Police Trooper Foundation, 3 Airport Park Boulevard, Latham 12110.
Catherine B. Siter (1925 – 2019)
ALBANY—Catherine B. Siter, 94, a resident of the Payn Home in Chatham, passed away Monday, September 30, 2019 at Albany Medical Center.
Born April 4, 1925 in Red Rock, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine (Snow) Falkner. She was a homemaker and for the last year enjoyed being a resident of the Payn Home.
She is survived by: four sons, Charles Siter of Ghent, Roger Siter of Lake City, FL, Kenneth Siter of Valatie and Peter Siter of Cambridge; a sister, Eleanor Henry of FL; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by: her daughter, Gloria Winters and siblings, Alice Taylor, Delmar and Alfred Falkner.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. A graveside service will be held at the West Ghent Cemetery immediately following.
Lynette McAleer (1926 – 2019)
PHILMONT—Lynette McAleer, 93, of Ghent passed away Sunday, September 15 in Philmont. Born April 25, 1926 in Woodmere, she was the daughter of Howard and Lynette (Tompkins) Brower.
She was a graduate of Woodmere High School on Long Island. She furthered her education as a graduate of The Academy of Aeronautics LaGuardia Field as a war service mechanic of aircraft engines. Moving from Long Island to Columbia County, she owned and operated the Highway Inn for 16 years. Upon its closing, Mrs. McAleer moved back to Long Island and worked for her brother’s agency, Brower Real Estate. She then moved back to Columbia County and worked at the Universal Match Corp. until her retirement. Enjoyment during retirement included golfing in Florida and traveling.
Left to cherish her memory, are: her children, daughter, Dee Dee (Carmen) Martino; son, John (Jean) Provenzano; grandchildren, Lyn Bottiglieri, Melodie (Hans) Provenzano Chew and Christopher (Julie) Provenzano; great-grandchildren, John Lee Chew and Sophia and Rocco Provenzano; along with her stepchildren, John McAleer and Jean Ann Klopchin.
She was predeceased by her husbands, John Battista Provenzano and John McAleer; and brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Bernice Brower.
A graveside service at the St. Mary’s Stuyvesant Falls Cemetery will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11:30 a.m., followed by a time of refreshment and fellowship at the Stuyvesant Falls VFW.

Leo L. Curran, Jr. (1930 – 2019)
HUDSON—Leo L. Curran, Jr., 88, of Hudson passed away September 16, 2019.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leo L. Curran, Sr., and Malinda S. Curran; his wife, Jean N. Curran; his sisters, Helen Cohn and Arlene Todd; his twin brother, Neal Curran and his son, Brian L. Curran.
He is survived by: his older brother, Henry Curran; his daughters, Linda Curran (Shawn Shea), Annmarie Malysz (Marshall J. Malysz, Sr.), Janelle C. Pozza (Nicholas Pozza) and Virginia Curran; grandsons, Brian L. Curran, Jr., and Eamonn Curran; and great-grandchildren Brian Leo Curran and Morgan Curran.
Mr. Curran was born in Nazareth, PA. He was a graduate of Hudson High School and worked as a lab technician at Lone Star Cement and Atlantic Cement (Blue Circle) from graduation to retirement.
He served his country in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a life-time member of the VFW and the Federation of Polish Sportsmen.
Mr. Curran was a diehard Yankees fan and an avid traveler with a love of the ocean. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and baking. His friends called him “a sweet man”.
No services will be held at his request.

Clayton F. Craver, Sr. (1928 – 2019)
LIVINGSTON—Clayton “Zip” F. Craver, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family September 30, 2019 at Livingston Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was the son of the late Harry and Frances Albright Craver.
He is survived: at home by his beloved wife of 63 years, Joan Craver.
He worked as a lineman on the railroad then he changed his occupation to farming. A few of his favorite places were: Ralph Boice’s Horse Farm in Livingston, Charlie Snyder’s Dairy Farm, and lastly at Boice’s Grain. He was an avid outdoors man with a natural green thumb.
Mr. Craver also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to bowl with his family and friends. He bowled in National tournaments all over the U.S. Another enjoyment for him was golf. When he resided in South Carolina he was a member of Charwood Country Club. He resided in South Carolina for 11 years before moving back to New York. He also enjoyed pony sulky racing in the earlier years with his son, William “Willy” Craver, Sr., who predeceased him.
He is survived by: his sons, Richard (Kathy) Craver of VA, Clayton “Peewee” (Judy) Craver, Jr., of Livingston and Bobby (Pam) Craver of SC; his daughters, Norma (Alan) Blanchard, Sr., of Gallatin, Deedee (Butch) Moore of SC, Karen (Gene) Moore, Sr., of SC, and Heather (Jon) Craver of Clermont; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his four brothers and two sisters.
Friends will be received Sunday, October 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Red Hook-Rhinebeck 2022 Elks Lodge, 7711 Albany Post Road, Red Hook. Arrangements are with the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook.
Paul J. Maddalla (1945 – 2019)
NEW LEBANON—Paul J. Maddalla, 74, of New Lebanon passed away suddenly Monday, September 23, 2019. He was the loving father of three children.
He was born July 8, 1945 in Albany and was the son of the late Joseph and Ruth Maddalla. He graduated from Columbia High School.
Mr. Maddalla worked in the construction field for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing. He was proud of his catch on his last day. Passionate about his gardening and canning, he was an excellent cook who enjoyed sharing with others. He was known by his friends and family to be a man of integrity and would always be there to lend a helping hand.
Mr. Maddalla is survived by: his son, Paul Maddalla (Nina); daughters, Michelle and Gina Maddalla; his 10 grandchildren, Paul P., Nina, Ava, Sophie, Bella, Johnny, Paul, Elainia, Perla, and Miya; four great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. He is the brother of Joseph Maddalla.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Kathy Whelpley and Marcia Maddalla. He will be missed by his many friends and family. William J. Dedrick (1936 – 2019)
ALBANY—William J. Dedrick, 83, of Valatie, died Monday, September 30, 2019 at Albany Medical Center.
Born July 13, 1936 in Hudson, he was the son the late Howard and Isabelle (Connors) Dedrick. “Bill” was veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked for Sterling-Winthrop in Rensselaer as an office clerk. He also owned Dedrick’s Sporting Goods and the Collectors’s Den in Valatie.
Mr. Dedrick is survived by: his wife, Ruth M. (Pulver) Dedrick; his daughter, Lisa Verbraska (Bob) of Valatie; two grandchildren, Justyn and Shannon Verbraska; siblings, Robert, Betty, Barbara, John; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 4, noon at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with the Reverend Samantha Peret officiating. Calling hours will be held Friday, from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the service. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Valatie.
