Howard E. Irwin (1958 – 2016)
HUDSON–Howard Edward Irwin died January 5, 2016 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 8, 1958 in Mahopac to Thomas and Barbara (Tompkins) Irwin.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Virginia (Lee); his sons, Howard, Jr., (Jennifer), Michael (Melinda), James (Jenna); his grandchildren, Natalee, Howard, III, Thomas, Jameson, expected grandbaby; his father, Thomas; sister, Lee; brother, Myron; several other loving family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his mother and brothers, Thomas and Michael. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a talented mechanic who worked at Pat Zanchelli, Inc. for many years. He considered his co-workers family.
Mr. Irwin also loved riding his motorcycle.

Claudia Acer (1954 -2016)
GHENT–Claudia Acer, lifelong resident of Columbia County, passed away at the Whittier Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, January 5, 2016. She was surrounded by loving family, friends and staff of the facility when she passed due to cancer.
She was born October 28, 1954 in Baumholder, Germany and was the daughter of the late Clifford and Delores (Roca) Coons of Philmont. After her father’s service overseas the family came to reside in Philmont, where Ms. Acer lived most of her life. She graduated from Taconic Hills Central School with a Regents diploma. From 1973 to 1979 she lived in New York City where she married the late Paul G. Acer of Howard Beach. They divorced in 1979 and she relocated back to the area with their son, Paul. From that point on she never left Columbia County which she loved to call home. She worked as a retail associate for the Jamesway Corporation, as well as a certified nurse’s assistant for Livingston Hills Nursing Home in Livingston, all while assisting with charity or a vast amount of organizations.
Ms. Acer will be known for her gentle, kind and giving spirit. She was very active in the Sacred Heart Church in Philmont,teaching Sunday school as well as participating in various church activities and groups. While at Jamesway she was very active in raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association every summer. While raising her son she was always active in his life through school activities, sporting events, and scouts where she also helped with activities.
Ms. Acer is survived by: her only son, Paul B. Acer of Marlboro and many cousins. She was the sister of late Christine Bower. Marjorie Marie Goerlitz Welch
RED ROCK–Her adoring family and the hamlet of Red Rock mourn the passing of a beloved matriarch, Marjorie Marie Goerlitz Welch, who died January 8, 2016.
Mrs. Welch was 94-years-old and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her daughter, Linda Welch; son, Donald Welch; grandchildren, Erin, Shauna, Jonathan and Donnie and great-grandchildren, Josephine, Preston and Beckett. Originally a resident of Mount Vernon, Mrs. Welch and the rest of her family left Westchester to become full-time residents of Red Rock in the 1940s. She continued to live there until her passing.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald C. Welch, Sr.; and her four siblings, John Goerlitz of Yonkers, Louise Ostling of Fort Myers, FL, Charlie Goerlitz of Ghent and Marie Burson of Red Rock.
Mrs. Welch had deep love for animals (especially dogs, excluding chickens), backyard bird feeders and sweets of any shape or size. Independent and strong-willed to the very end, she was quick-witted and had a warm, youthful smile that belied her age.
A lunch in celebration of her life will be held at the Red Rock Volunteer Fire Company, January 17, 2016 at noon. All are welcome. Marvis Lee Richardson, Sr. (1955 – 2016)
ALBANY–Marvis “Nick” Lee Richardson of Hudson quietly enter into an eternal rest Tuesday morning, January 5, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital.
“Nick,” as most people knew him, was born in Moultrie, Georgia, January 29, 1955, to the late Lucille Richardson and John Wesley Thomas.
He is survived by: a son, Marvis Lee Richardson, Jr.; three stepdaughters, Yvette M. Roberts (Darryl) of Latham, Jacinda D. Neal of Georgia, and Carla R. Neal of Catskill; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of family members.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Viewing will be at 1 p.m. and the funeral will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Reverend Edward Cross of the Endless Love Temple in Hudson will officiate. Burial will be in his family plot in Moultrie, Georgia, under the direction of Luke Strong and Son Mortuary, Inc. of Moultrie, GA.
Joseph Edward Klima, Jr.
HENDERSON, KY–Joseph Edward Klima, Jr., 64, of Henderson, Kentucky, formerly of Mellenville, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016, 6 p.m. at Redbanks Nursing Home.
Mr. Klima was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He was a sweet, kind soul who loved and adored his wife, parents and children. He was also an avid New York Giants fan and enjoyed cooking, tending to his flower garden and traveling.
He was preceded in death by: his infant son, Joseph Edward Klima, III; and his parents, Joseph Edward Klima, Sr., who died March 18, 2007 and Rose Edwina Stickles Klima, who died December 17, 2015.
Survivors include: his wife, Beverly Virgin Klima; three daughters, Gennea Klima of Philmont, Mackinzie Klima McClure and her husband, Andy, of Connelly Springs, North Carolina, and Emily Stalker and her husband, Josh, of Hillsdale; one granddaughter, Deanna Klima of Boston, Massachusetts; and one grandson, Joshua Stalker of Hillsdale; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mike and Mary Virgin, Scott and Candi Virgin, Kenny Virgin and Tim and Shannon Virgin, all of Chandler, Indiana; nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, January 9 at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. Father Larry McBride officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Chandler, Indiana, with full military rites.

Maria Kulyniak (1921 – 2016)
GHENT–Maria “Oma” Kulyniak, 94, formerly of Hudson and longtime resident, went home to the Lord, Thursday January 7, 2016 at Whittier Nursing Home.
Born in Ukraine, October 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Katherine (Pad) Nemann.
Mrs. Kulyniak was a communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hudson. She and her family came to this country in 1949. She was very proud to become a U.S. citizen. She worked hard her entire life at the button, mushroom and candy factories. She retired with more than 11 years from Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. She was a generous loving person always giving to those in need. She loved gardening, cooking and Sunday diners with family.
Survivors include her: loving sons, Michael (Kathy), Nicholas (fiancee Marcia Schermerhorn), Andrew (Pamela); a sister, Olga Stettin of Germany, and her grandson, Jacob. She was predeceased by her husband, Simon; sister, Tonia Lestav and her son, Stefan.
Calling hours will be Sunday January 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Panakhyda prayer will be at 5 p.m. A Mass will be offered Monday, January 11, 11 a..m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 206 Union Street, Hudson with Fr. John Jedrychowski officiating.
