Ellwood “Woody” Jessie Hoyt (1927 – 2015)
ALBANY—Ellwood “Woody” Jessie Hoyt, 88, of Ancram died Friday December, 11, 2015 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by family.
He was born December 8, 1927 to Henry and Annie Tompkins Hoyt. He was a graduate of Roeliff Jansen High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1957.
On August 18, 1981, he married Katherine Brown of Lee, MA.
He retired from the Kimberly Clark Ancram Mill in 1985 after 30 years.
He was a member of VFW Post 7955, Copake.
Mr. Hoyt was a 71-year active volunteer of the Ancram Fire Company.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: three children, Judith (Tom) Welch, James D. Hoyt and Nancy (George) Quinlan; a brother, Malcolm (Annie) Hoyt; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 2, 2016, noon at the Ancram Firehouse, 1306 County Route 7.

Lucille J. R. Meltzer (1926 – 2015)
GHENT—Lucille Justine Roth Meltzer, age 89, peacefully passed away, Thursday, December 10, 2015.
Born March 20, 1926 in Flushing, she was the daughter of the late Walter F. and Jeannette (Canney) Roth.
Mrs. Meltzer lived most of her life in the Queensborough Hill section of Flushing. After graduating from Newtown High School at age 16, she worked for Atlantic Telegraph and Telephone for 20 years in the teletype division. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
She retired after the birth of her daughters to be a stay-at-home mother and volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and as a tutor at St. Ann’s School in Flushing. Mrs. Meltzer was a loving wife to her husband, Ernest, who predeceased her in 1993, and was a bookkeeper for his business. Throughout her life, she loved books, libraries and animals—especially dogs.
Mrs. Meltzer moved to Cold Spring in 2002 and said it reminded her of “how Flushing used to be.” She loved to spend her time with her grandchildren and was a member of the Highland Garden Club, the Butterfield Quilting Guild and a parishioner at Our Lady of Loretto Church. Most recently, she was a resident of Camphill Ghent and, finally, Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Ghent.
Mrs. Meltzer is survived by: her daughters and sons-in-law, Maureen Meltzer-McGrath and John McGrath of Cold Spring and Lisa Caproni and her husband Julian of Chatham; her grandchildren, Mae Justine McGrath and Graeme Martin McGrath of Cold Spring; her nieces, Patricia (Roth) Buckley of Huntsville, Alabama, and Joanne (Roth) Schmidt of Mount Dora, Florida.
She was predeceased by her brother, Walter T. Roth.
A Memorial Mass will be held in her honor Friday, December 18, 11 a.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Chatham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA, 111 Humane Society Road, Hudson 12534.

Mary Wu (1952 – 2015)
HUDSON—Mary Wu of Hudson passed away in her home December 11, 2015.
Born August 22, 1952 in Watertown, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Helen R. Robbins Hager.
She graduated Watertown High School and went on to attend Jefferson Community College where she received her RN. She married Simon Wu, June 7, 2003.
Mrs. Wu worked at Sunmount DDSO in Saranac Lake and later with Taconic DDSO in Valatie, where she served as team leader for Columbia and Greene counties. She was a blessing to those she met always sharing her big smile and huge heart.
Mrs. Wu is survived by: her husband, Simon; daughter, Jessica Nettles; sister, Linda O’Dell; cousins; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
She enjoyed her baking, traveling and gardening. She truly loved her cats.

Delbert M. Boyles, Sr. (1922 – 2015)
GHENT—Delbert “Duke” M. Boyles, Sr., 93, of Schnackenberg Road, Ghent passed away Wednesday December 9, 2015 at his residence.
He was born March 17, 1922 in Ancram, a son of Delbert C. and Hazel (Brothers) Boyles.
A lifelong resident of Columbia County, Mr. Boyles was a self employed building contractor.
He proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
A technical sergeant with the 104th Timberwolf Division, he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and was awarded the Purple Heart January 1, 1945.
He was an avid sportsman and also enjoyed traveling and camping. Known as a hard-worker he continued to cut and split wood almost to the very end. Loved by everyone, he loved riding his Harley but most enjoyed spending time with his family.
On August 9, 1946, he married Marjorie F. (Barden) Boyles in Philmont, a blessed union of more than 69 years.
Surviving are: his beloved wife, Marjorie of Ghent; his loving children, Sally Ingles (Harry) of Philmont, Robert Boyles (Diane) of Philmont, Ronald Boyles (Judy) of Hollowville, Delbert Boyles, Jr. (Patty) of Hillsdale, Thomas Boyles (Marsha) of Connecticut and Scott Boyles (Janet) of Hillsdale. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, Skip, John, Krystal, Heather, Ronald, Jr., Brett, Elysia, Thomas, Jr., George, Matthew, Brad and Sean; several great-and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Verna Montague and Jean Smith (Clyde), both of Philmont and several nieces and nephews. Lastly, he leaves his canine companion, Benji. Other close family members include Carrie Mayotte and Lisa Mahar.
Mr. and Mrs. Boyles were also foster parents to 42 children over a 12-year-period.
A Celebration of his Life will be held, Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Philmont Rod and Gun Club, 65 Railroad Avenue, Philmont.

Barbara Genovese (1937 – 2015)
MANHATTAN—Barbara A. Genovese, 78, of Hudson passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at NYU Langone Hospital.
Born August 5, 1937 in Flushing, she was the daughter of the late John Lewis and Katherine Messinger. Her stepmother was Gladis Lewis and her brother was John “Jack” Lewis. She was predeceased by her daughter, Catherine Genovese, and her grandson, Jonathan Van Allen.
She is survived by: her husband of 61 years, Carl Genovese, Sr., of Hudson; her daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Neil Van Allen of Kinderhook; her son and daughter-in-law, Carl, Jr. and Kellie Genovese of Chatham; her grandchildren, Sarah Genovese-Crippen, Katrina Van Allen and Alex Van Allen; and her great-grandchildren, Isabella and Carter Quickenton.
Mrs. Genovese was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed spending her time with family and friends, cooking and sharing recipes, her husband’s garden, old movies and vacations out west. She had a deep love for Jehovah God and his Word, a special fondness for her spiritual brothers and sisters, and a real zeal for the Christian ministry. She will be dearly missed by all those that appreciated her joyful spirit, contagious laughter, feistiness, quick-witted humor and, above all, her uncompromising faith.
Relatives and friends may call at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m. Burial will follow at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Valatie. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 20 at 4 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 391 Fairview Avenue, Hudson. All are welcome.
Christina M. Agan (1977 – 2015)
VALATIE—Christina M. (McDonald) Agan, 37, of Valatie, formerly of Greenville, died Thursday, December 10, 2015 in Valatie.
She was born December 12, 1977 in Middletown. Ms. Agan has left behind many supportive friends in the community and will be missed by all.
She is survived by: her mother, JoEllen Rooney (John) of Grand Island, FL, and her father, Edward McDonald (Janice) of Coxsackie; four children, Dustin, Alexander, Tristen and Hunter Agan, all of Valatie; three siblings, Tracey Boehm and Edward McDonald Jr., both of Coxsackie, and Megan Downey of Cairo; a step-sister, Shannon Radliff of Stuyvesant Falls; a step-brother, Michael Radliff of Grafton; seven nieces and nephews, Benjamin, Emily, Conor, Casey, Adelynn, Crysta and Keegan.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
