Dorothy M. Hover (1927 – 2020)
CHATHAM—Dorothy May (McQuade) Hover left this life January 19, 2020 at home.
Born March 1, 1927 to Frederick and Elizabeth Steuerwald McQuade, “Dot” lived most of her life in Spencertown and moved to Chatham 40 years ago.
She was retired from Chatham Central School District having started her career as the school crossing guard in Spencertown and retiring as the school lunch manager. She was an active member of St. Luke’s Church, Episcopal in Chatham having served in many capacities on the vestry and Altar guild. She spent her life helping anyone in need.
Mrs. Hover is survived by: her children, Frank (Barbara) of Boxford, MA, Edward (Ann) of Murrell’s Inlet, SC, Dorothy of Ghent, Richard of Catskill and Margaret (Kevin Johnson) of Chatham; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew, David McQuade and her niece, Ivy Brockley. Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank and her brother, the Reverend Frederick McQuade.
Friends may call on her family at St. Luke’s Church Episcopal from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, January 25. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. With interment in Spencertown immediately following.

David M. Grandy (1928 – 2020)
PHILMONT—David Marshall Grandy passed away peacefully January 19, 2020 in Philmont.
He was the widower of Elizabeth A. Grandy. They shared 46 years of marriage together.
Born in Marlboro MA, he was the son of Harold and Beulah Grandy. He graduated from American International College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 53. Before he retired, Mr. Grandy was employed at IBM in Boca Raton, FL, in their maintenance department.
Mr. and Mrs. Grandy moved to Philmont in 1993. They attended the Philmont United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fixing mechanical/electronic items and woodworking. Family members and neighbors were so grateful for the help they received.
Mr. Grandy was a member of the Hawthorne Valley Gnomes who made wooden toys for the annual Yuletide Fair.
He is survived by: his daughters, Melody (Roger) of Asheville NC, and Caroline (Jim) of Philmont; his son, Chris (Rose) of Wheaton, IL, and his grandchildren, Tristan (Ariel), Andrew (Melissa), Megan, Emily, Annabel, Sarah Ruth, and Abigail Elizabeth. He enjoyed spending time with all of his family including his two great-grandchildren, Addison Elizabeth and Jackson David.
The funeral service will be held Friday, January 24, 10 a.m. at the Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Avenue, Chatham. Interment will follow in the Mellenville Union Cemetery

Ralph H. Moshimer (1943 – 2020)
VALATIE—Ralph Henry Moshimer, 76, of Valatie passed away January 17, 2020.
He was born October 9, 1943 in Pittsfield, MA, to Ralph and Doris (Neissel) Moshimer.
Mr. Moshimer was a construction supervisor for the Massachusetts Carpenter Union until he retired in 1998. He oversaw large construction projects such as the Chatham High School. He served as past chief of the Canaan Fire Department and was always willing to help neighbors and friends in need.
He loved anything related to the outdoors. He enjoyed camping with his wife and kids, hunting with his sons, granddaughter and best friend, George. Then there was fishing, ice fishing and snowmobiling; not to mention watching wildlife from his favorite recliner when he couldn’t be out there in it.
On April 16, 1966 he married Karen “Kandi” (Satrape) Moshimer in Pittsfield, MA. They were married 53 years.
In addition to his loving wife, survivors include: his sons, Scott (Wendy), Randy (Jeanine) Moshimer; and daughter, Mekela (Joshua) Flood. He was especially fond of his four grandchildren, Marissa (Ennis) Simmons, Adrienne
Moshimer, Jesse Flood and Abigail Flood. He is also survived by many other loved family members and friends.
His family thanks everyone who has supported them since his stroke three months ago. The many visits from family and friends brightened his days during that challenging time.
The family is grateful to the staff of The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell for their dedication to his care and rehab.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham. A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Moshimer’s name may be made to the Canaan Protective Fire Company.

Marilyn J. Neer-Niver (1932 – 2020)
GREAT BARRINGTON, MA—Marilyn J. Neer-Niver, 87, of Copake passed away Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Fairview Commons.
She was born April 27, 1932 in Hudson to the late Henry and Ella (Piester) Alberti.
She retired from the United States Postal Service in 1992.
She was predeceased by her spouses, Fred Neer in 1984 and Kermit Niver in 2017; also by two brothers, Harold and Kenneth Alberti.
Survivors include: her children and their spouses, Reed (Penny) Neer, Bonnie (Milton) Spangler, Rita (Brian) Adrianos and Keith (Brenda) Neer.
Her family thank both Fairview Commons and Hospice for their compassionate care. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Copake Cemetery.
