Joseph E. Hotaling (1930 – 2019)
GHENT—Joseph E. Hotaling, 89, of Ghent passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019.
Born August 7, 1930 in Athens (Greene County), he was the youngest of the five children of George and Katie (Hosford) Hotaling.
He worked for more than 30 years at Kadin Bros. Factory in Hudson. He continued his career as a custodian for the Hudson City School District, retiring in 1990. “Pop,” as he was affectionately known, was a diehard NY Yankees fan. He also loved mowing his lawn, and enjoyed socializing with an occasional beverage at his favorite locations, Frank’s Bar, and The Halfway House in Ravena. Mr. Hotaling proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and earned an honorable discharge.
Left to cherish his memory are: his children, Ned (Sharon) Kisselbrack, Mary Anne (Steve) Lemmerman and Paul H. Kisselbrack; five grandchildren, Vincent Kisselbrack (Heather), Heather Martin Boucher (Frank), Amanda Martin (David), Amy Lemmerman (Barry), and Joshua Kisselbrack (Kelly), along with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hotaling was predeceased by: his wife, Mary Howe Hotaling, and siblings, Sylvia Lackie, Mabel Nunziato, George Hotaling, Jr., and Florence Gault.
A funeral service was held Monday, August 26 from the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Antonio Merante (1929 – 2019)
HUDSON—Antonio “Tony” Merante, 89, of Hudson passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Sunday, August 25, 2019.
Born November 6, 1929 in Stuyvesant, he was one of the five children of Dominick and Agnes (Scott) Merante of Hudson. Mr. Merante and his wife, Laura, owned and operated Tony’s IGA at Third and Columbia streets in Hudson, for 45 years. During the store years they made many friends who became their extended family.
Mr. Merante enjoyed playing cards, bowling, fishing and camping. He loved to watch westerns, old movies and listening to music. He was a dedicated and loving husband and a family man who always put his family first. He was a member of the Washington Hose Fire Co., and Hudson Elks Lodge #787. He served in the United States Air Force as a sergeant during the Korean War.
Mr. Merante is survived by: his seven children, Donna (Jake) Hoffman, Antonio (Louise) Merante, Jr., Thomas Merante, Sr., Michael (Paula) Merante, Dominic Merante (Diane Guarino), Laurie (Gerald, Jr.) Ranita, and Rocco (Deidre) Merante; his grandchildren, Marlena (Tom) Peduzzi, Karrie (Ross) Cox, Jacob Hoffman, Nicholas, Timothy (Delsia Hilton) Merante, Thomas, Jr. (Megan Parmentier), Christopher, Tyler, Jonathan (Lauren) Merante, Matthew and Andrew Merante, Jenna Merante and Mollie Merante.
Also surviving are many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his sister, Santa Harvey. He was predeceased by his wife, Laura; siblings, Thomas and Dominic Merante and Mary Frisbee, and his daughter-in-law, Donna M. (Scalera) Merante.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 29, 9 a.m. from Holy Trinity/St. Mary’s Parish in Hudson. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Susan M. Sorbo (1958 – 2019)
ANCRAM—Susan M. Sorbo, 60, of Amenia, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at her loving sister’s home in Ancram.
She worked at the Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon, CT, in the housekeeping department for 25 years prior to her retirement. She was greatly admired for her hard work and dedication to the residents of Sharon Health Care and to their families.
Born October 31, 1958 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Audrey (Coon) Dykeman, who resides in Hudson and the late Cecil Dykeman.
She was a 1976 graduate of Stissing Mountain High School in Pine Plains. She also attended Dutchess County BOCES where she received secretarial training. On August 11, 1984 in Pine Plains, she married Terrance Sorbo. Mr. Sorbo died September 5, 1997.
Mrs. Sorbo had a great affection for animals, especially her loving cat, Max. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and her many dear friends.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by: three sisters, Dianna Williams of Ancram, JoAnne Harrison and her companion Herman Meccariello of Ancram and Theresa Cause and her husband William of Red Hook; her brother-in-law, Raymond Harrison of Pine Plains; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Barry Dykeman of West Taghkanic in 1989.
