David W. Hobden (1951 – 2019)
CANAAN—David William Hobden of Canaan died suddenly Monday, October 14, 2019. He was 68.
Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, April 17, 1951, he was the son of William and Lois Hobden.
He graduated from high school in Nashua, NH, and attended Fredonia State College, where he met his wife of 48 years, Dianne Patnaude Hobden.
Upon moving to Canaan in 1980, Mr. Hobden embarked on a career in antique restoration and reproduction, culminating in the creation of his business: D.W. Hobden Restorations.
As a younger man, he was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hiking, wilderness camping and canoeing. After retirement, he and his wife traveled the country in their camper.
Mr. Hobden was a true family man and was never happier than when he was surrounded by his family.
He is survived by: his wife, Dianne; his three children, Sarah Hobden and her husband Paul Bildner, Jessica Hobden and her husband Lee Miller and Matthew Hobden; his sister, Sandra (Michael) Pelletier of Weare, NH; numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, October 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Avenue, Chatham. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Stephen Gates (1949 – 2019)
CHATHAM—Stephen Gates passed from this life Wednesday, October 16.
He was born March 29, 1949 in Chatham to Vivian Estopinal Gates and Louis Gates, III.
Mr. Gates served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971, including an extended tour of duty in Vietnam.
He was predeceased by: his parents; his brothers, Robert and Dane (Georgia) Gates and brother-in-law, Howard Hatch.
He is survived by: his sister, Vicki (Howard) Hatch; brothers, Louis (Melanie) Gates, IV, and William (Mary) Gates; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He will be missed.
