Loretta S. Gallup (1925 – 2018)
NEW LEBANON—Loretta (Sherman) Gallup, 92, died peacefully Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at her home with her family at her side.
She was born in Lanesborough, MA, August 12, 1925, the daughter of the late Reginald L. and Lillian Lester Sherman. She was wife of the late Lester J. Gallup who died in 2016.
She was raised and educated in New Lebanon and resided there all of her life.
She was a supervisor at Ceramaseal in New Lebanon for many years before retiring. She was an active member of the Lebanon Springs First Baptist Church.
She enjoyed baking, cooking, camping and boating at the family camp at Indian Lake and taking care of her family.
She was the beloved mother of Larry (Marilynn) Gallup of Stephentown, Lance (Tara Liljeholm) Gallup of New Lebanon, Lyle (Patricia) Gallup of Stephentown and the late Lee Gallup; sister of Carole Sherman of Tuscon, AZ and the late Bob, George and Reginald Sherman. She is also survived by four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Edward P. O’Keefe (1925 – 2018)
VALATIE—Edward Patrick O’Keefe, 92, a World War II vet, died February 12, 2018.
He was born to Anna Nolan of Queens and Patrick O’Keefe of Waterford, Ireland, December 4, 1925.
He was brother to Margaret O’Keefe who passed in 1988.
Mr. O’Keefe enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 where he held a rank of seaman first class. During a military operation in 1945 he was injured and received an honorable discharge. He married his longtime love, Patricia Huson and went on to produce what he called “his four beautiful young ladies.”
Mr. O’Keefe went to work at New York Life Insurance Company on Madison Avenue in New York City. In 1994 Mr. O’Keefe semi-retired. He and his wife travelled between their homes in Indialantic, FL, and a lake house in Kinderhook. He often spoke with admiration for his father, Patty, who went down with the Titanic but managed to survive the frigid waters.
Mr. O’Keefe is survived by: his daughters, Patricia (Carl) Campbell, Coleen (Paul, deceased) Winslow, Margaret (William) Drexler, Jacqueline (Marco) Boulos and his grandchildren, Lisa, Paul, Edward and Catherine. He also had one grandson, Luke, now deceased.
He also leaves behind many who loved him, including his wife’s siblings, Jeannie (deceased), Richie, Cookie and Bitsy. He always looked after them since they lost their father at a young age. Mr. O’Keefe was a family man first and always.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. O’Keefe, April 7, 2018, 11 a.m. at Saint John the Baptist Church in Valatie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Inn at St. Peters Hospital in Albany. A reception will immediately follow the service. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Cornelius J. Myers, Jr. (1929 – 2018)
VALATIE—Cornelius J. Myers, Jr., 88, of Valatie died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at his home.
Born July 31, 1929 in Albany, he was the son of the late Cornelius J. and Cecelia (Merman) Myers, Sr.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and was employed by Local #83 Sheet Metal Union in Albany. He was a devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Myers is survived by: his wife, Beatrice B. (Batting) Myers; his son, Joseph Myers (Rhonda) of West Sand Lake; a sister, Mary Ellen Ditonno of Albany; a brother, Thomas Myers of Guilderland; two grandchildren, Meridi Callahan (James) and Neil J. Myers; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie.
George R. Desmond (1924 – 2018)
GHENT—George R. Desmond, 93, of Claverack died March 29, 2018 at the Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.
Born August 26, 1924 in Athens, he was the son of the late George and Mabel (Waters) Desmond.
Mr. Desmond served with the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 and was a member of the Jennings-Willets American Legion Post in Germantown. He retired after many years of working as a mail carrier with the U.S. Post Office in Hudson.
He was a devoted husband of 70 years to June Simmons Desmond, who predeceased him in January of this year.
Survivors include: his daughter, Diane Popow (Ken); a son, William (Maria) Desmond; a brother, Edward Desmond; grandchildren, Thomas (Tammy) Popow, Jr., William (Karen) Popow and Michael (Melissa) Desmond, David (Melissa) Desmond; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Desmond and sister, Arlene Rogers.
There are no calling hours.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Shirley A. Packard (1942 – 2018)
HUDSON—Shirley A. Packard of East Chatham passed away peacefully March 31, 2018 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born August 18, 1942 in Canaan, CT, she was the daughter of the late Irving Hankey, Sr., and the late Hattie (Davis) Muller.
She is survived by: her children, John Palmer, Jr., (Dawn McLaughlin), Bonnie (Ray) Hall, Bob (Tammi) Palmer, Hattie (Phil) Markham, Nancy (Felix) Paul; her stepchildren, Sally Packard and David Packard; and Stephen and Richard Ball, who she thought of as her sons.
She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her long-time love, Donald Packard of Lyndonville, VT; her siblings, Wanda Quenneville, Pat Keefner, Joan Marks and Richard Hankey; and three step-siblings from her mother’s second marriage to Theodore Muller.
She was predeceased by her son, Richard Palmer; her namesake granddaughter, Shirley Palmer; her first husband, John Palmer, Sr.; her sibling, Irving Hankey. Jr.
Mrs. Packard enjoyed poker night with the girls, and numerous other card games that she played daily with her personal assistant who took wonderful care of her. She had a special place in her heart for her aide, Nicole, along with family who would visit and play some “9 and 5.”
Mrs. Packard was an avid animal lover. Her daily routine was to spoil the dogs and cats. She got wet soggy kisses from Buddy or Baby and the cat tapped her on the hand asking, “Where’s my bite grandma?” She always saved at least a bite for each of them. Peanut, Denny and Mo let her know they were waiting.
She was a loyal Red Sox fan, though her family tried to convert her to the Yankees when she moved to New York.

Donna G. Main (1940 – 2018)
HUDSON—Donna G. “Nanny” Main, 77, of Schodack Landing died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born June 22, 1940 in Patterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Hazal (Cappell) Schaeffer.
Ms. Main worked for the Match Factory, Ames, Sterling-Winthrop, Kaz and American Bio-Medica and was currently employed as a cashier at ShopRite in Greenport. She loved animals and enjoyed dirt racing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by: one son, David R. Main (Yvonne) of Schodack Landing; a brother, Lawrence L. Schaeffer (Olga) of Greenboro, NC; a granddaughter, Dana Main; several nieces and nephews.

Mary E. Smith (1966 – 2018)
ALBANY—Mary E. Smith, 52, of Castleton died Friday, March 30, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Born January 11, 1966 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Perry Lawrence and Marian (Humler) Lawrence of Mechanicville.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a wonderful wife and mother who devoted her life to her family.
Besides her mother, she is survived by: her husband, Guy S. “Dutch” Smith; two daughters, Danielle Rathbun of Virginia, Justine Rathbun of Florida, NY; her son, Austin J. Smith of Castleton; two sisters, Melissa Hurd (Stephanie) of Clifton Park and Carlie Tompkins (Jason) of Mechanicville; a stepdaughter, Tonya; a stepson, David Smith (Carol) of New Lebanon; a nephew, Jaxon Tompkins; several other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 6, 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with the Reverend Stark Jones officiating. Gesue A. Corretti (1926 – 2018)
COPAKE—Gesue A. Corretti, a/k/a, Joe, Dad, Papa, passed away peacefully April 1, 2018.
He was one of the kindest, most gentle souls to grace this earth.
He was born July 15, 1926 to Teapeasta and Eostachio Corretti on School Street, Yonkers.
Mr. Corretti was a World War II veteran, who was drafted in 1943. He became a sergeant and served in the Philippines and Japan. While on the way to Japan, his ship endured a typhoon. The ship repeatedly went under water. He often spoke of this, reflecting how all of the men, including himself, were sick for days. After his discharge from the military, Mr. Corretti went to school under the GI Bill, learning the wonderful trade of auto body craftsmanship.
His first business was as owner/operator of Brimmore Service Station in Yonkers from 1958 to 1961. He later owned and operated Joe’s Auto Body on Vark Street in Yonkers from 1961 to 1991. He retired from the auto body business at the age of 65.
On September 2, 1967, he married the love of his life, Martha Steigleman McClain. That same year, they moved from Yonkers to Jefferson Valley, where they raised her two sons. He readily became their dad. Mr. and Mrs. Corretti moved to Copake in January 2000. He was the best father any man could hope to be. Following the death of his wife, Mr. Corretti lived with his son, Shawn and wife Patricia McClain in Copake.
Mr. Corretti was predeceased by: his parents; sister, Angela Colabatistto in 2001; wife, Martha, March 5, 2007; stepson, Thomas, December 31, 2015 and many friends.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Patricia McClain; grandchildren, Shawn McClain, Jr., of Manhattan, Tara–Anne McClain of Boston, MA, Kyle McClain and Kelly McClain of Harriman; brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Natalie Corretti of Yonkers; many sisters- and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. “God has gained an angel and his son Shawn and his family have received a guardian angel.”
Friends are invited to visit Friday, April 6, 2018 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Route 22, Copake.
A Mass of Christian Burial will also be celebrated April 6 at 11 a.m. from the Parish of Our Lady of Hope, 8074 State Route 22, Copake Falls, with the Reverend George Brennan officiating.
Interment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.

Myers H. Jadatz (1930 – 2018)
VALATIE—Myers H. Jadatz, 87, of Valatie died Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at his home.
Born October 7, 1930 in Pittsfield, MA, he was the son of the late Henry and Thelma (Curtis) Jadatz.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was the owner of Mueller and Jadatz in Albany. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Duke Bluedevils fan and enjoyed farming and vegetable gardening. He was a member of the South Schodack Fire Company.
He is survived by: one daughter, Laurel Jacon (John) of Schodack Landing; a sister, Audrey Hogle of Castleton-on-Hudson; two grandchildren, Amy Jacon Akers (Ryan) and Justin Jacon (Abigael); two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Remington Akers; a niece, Dawn Wright (Gary) and his cat, Smudge. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane K. (Mull) Jadatz.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6, 11 a.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with the Reverend Paige Convis officiating. Burial will follow in Horizon View Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, April 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Robert J. Law (1962 – 2018)
GHENT—Robert “Bert” Law, 55, of Ghent passed away at Whittier Nursing and Rehabilitation, March 28, 2018.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Ellouise Law.
Mr. Law was a longtime iron worker, enjoyed classic rock and working to complete his many puzzles.
He was predeceased by his loving companion, Kathleen Viet and his sister, Patricia Coons.
He is survived by: his brothers, Terrance Law, Michael (Minni) McCarty, Mark McCarty and Matthew (Tracy) McCarty; sisters, Michelle (Fred) Guilefuss and Louann Crownover; uncle, Raymond “Mosey” Lockrow; several nieces and nephews.
