George H. Fox (1945 – 2019)
DEAL ISLAND, MD—George Herman Fox, 74, of Deal Island, Maryland and formerly of Germantown, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at home.
He was born June 16, 1945 in Wayland, NY, the son of the late Mary (McDowell) Fox and the late Herman Fox.
Mr. Fox graduated from Wayland Central School in 1963. He was a graduate of Simmons College of Mortuary Science with an associate’s degree in applied science. He was a highly-decorated Army sergeant in the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam with multiple Bronze Stars. After being honorably discharged from the military, he moved to Germantown and began his career as a funeral director.
For nearly 50 years, Mr. Fox owned and operated the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home on Main Street in Germantown, where he proved to be a pillar in his community. He was the caring person who would always answer a call for help, no matter the time of day. An outstanding man, he made it his life’s mission to help others during difficult times, and to be the one person all could rely on.
Mr. Fox was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was a member of many fraternal organizations including the Masons and the Germantown Lions Club; a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, life-member of the VFW Post 6396, and the Jennings-Willets American Legion Post. Mr. Fox spent his retirement building his new empire by hand, something he had done his entire life. He was an avid fisherman who recently enjoyed crabbing on his boat. He loved his toys, he had a helicopter and powered-parachute (in which he would take anyone willing to fly with him out for a ride), his boat that he used to get around his swamp, and his fishing boat.
He loved being outdoors and was enjoying life on his farm with his loving wife and son, Paula and Adrian. Known for his wit, he had the ability to make everyone laugh. He would put a smile on the face of everyone who came through his funeral home and that was one of the most admirable things about him.
Mr. Fox was predeceased by: his first wife, Diane (Riter) Fox and his second wife, Paula (DeCheck) Fox.
Survivors include: his son, Todd Fox (fiancee’ Jennifer) of Ormond Beach, FL; his son, Adrian Fox of Deal Island, MD; his granddaughter, Amber Fox (Anthony DiCapua) of Poughkeepsie; great-grandchildren, Aubrey DiCapua, Zoe Fox, Gavin and Ella Smiley; sister, Nancy Moore of Germantown; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held November 4 at the Reformed Church of Germantown with the Reverend David Tipple officiating. A graveside service followed at the Reformed Church Cemetery, Germantown. Kathleen M. Fischer (1943 – 2019)
HUDSON—Kathleen M. Fischer, 76, of Valatie passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born September 7, 1943 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Austin) Bradley. She was employed by Ichabod Crane Central School in Valatie and Sterling-Winthrop in Rensselaer for many years before retiring.
Ms. Fischer was a devoted mother who loved her children and animals. She was a talented artist, a hard-worker and enjoyed the thrill of going to flea markets.
She is survived by: two children, Kathy Mulica (John) of Stuyvesant and Kara Householder (Ron) of Schodack Landing; a sister, Mary Silvano (Richard) of Valatie; four grandchildren, Tanner Ray and Asah John Mulica, Skyler Lee and Brandon Michael Householder; nephew, Scott Carpenter (Karen) and niece, Colleen Carpenter–Rice (Kevin).
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 11, 11 a.m. at the Clearview Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Castleton, with the Reverend Nick Becker officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, 111 Humane Society Road, Hudson 12534. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie.
Gregory Potts (1931 – 2019)
CLERMONT—Gregory Potts, age 88, lifelong Clermont resident, passed Saturday, October 5, 2019 to be with his beloved wife, Beatrice.
He was born March 15, 1931 in Copake, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Krysko) Potts.
Mr. Potts served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged July 11, 1959. He was a recipient of National Defense Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
After his service, he drove a truck for Clermont Fruit Packers. He retired as maintenance supervisor from Entenmann’s Hudson processing plant. In retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Potts enjoyed their time going to community events and watching wildlife. They enjoyed spending time with their friends and family.
Mr. Potts is survived by: his three daughters, Elaine Jornov, Mary Gregory and Gretta Tillman; four grandchildren, Tatiyana Tillman, Vladimir Tillman, Damon Tillman, Gregory Jornov; and a great-grandson, Gregory Jornov, Jr.
A funeral service was held Thursday, October 10 at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Community Hospice Chaplain Stan Webster officiated. Private interment in St. Luke’s Cemetery in Clermont will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill 12414.
Glenn J. Unson (1976 – 2019)
CLERMONT—Glenn J. Unson, 43, of Clermont passed away tragically, Sunday, November 3, 2019.
Born July 6, 1976, in Kingston, he was the son of Florence (O’Dell) Unson of Kingston and the late Bruce D. Unson.
He was a graduate of Red Hook High School.
For many years, Mr. Unson worked in the construction trades and ran his own contracting business.
He always lived his life on his own terms.
As an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing—especially deer season, striper and salmon fishing. He always made time to spend with his nephew, Daniel, on the family farm riding four wheelers.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by: two loving sisters, Amy (Ken) Unson Bendix of Clermont and Audrey Unson of Red Hook; a nephew, Daniel Bendix of Clermont; his aunts and uncles, Elaine (Ren) Tate of Rhinecliff, Christine Unson of Clifton Park, Loraine Unson of Clifton Park, Eugene (Melody) O’Dell of Highland and Ernest O’Dell of Coxsackie; along with several cousins, extended family and friends.
Friends will be received at the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook, Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 3 to 6 p.m. Interment will be private in Viewmont Cemetery, Germantown.
