Mary L. Finn (1914 – 2015)
GHENT—Mary L. Finn, 101, of Hudson passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.
Born April 8, 1914 in Hudson, she was the daughter of Aneilo and Govinnina (Cimino) Gentile.
Mrs. Finn was a secretary for the City of Hudson Building Inspector’s Office. She was a member of the Hudson Elks Lodge #787 Ladies Auxiliary, Mount Carmel Sodality and the Hudson Whalers.
Surviving are: her son, Michael J. Finn of Hudson; her brother, Joseph Gentile of Ghent; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Finn; three brothers, Robert, Francis and Dominick Gentile and her sister, Rose Gentile.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

James W. Bathrick (1960 – 2015)
MARGARETVILLE—James Wendell Bathrick, 54, of Arkville, formerly of Germantown, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 as a result of a cardiac arrest at Margaretville Memorial Hospital.
He leaves his wife of 15 years, Sharon Lee Morrarty; his step-children, Steven, Christopher and Serena VanAlphen; his siblings, Buddy, Tom, Thomas P., Mary, Sherry, Molly, Michael and Bernard; nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and many close friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Bathrick.
Raised in Germantown, he was the son of Edward T. Bathrick and the late Anna Bathrick Powell, and his “second” mom, Judy Bathrick.
From a young age, he was a high energy person who loved the outdoors. He found his soulmate and the love of his life in the year 2000 and they married June 24, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Germantown.
Mr. Bathrick worked at the Greenport Walmart for 16+ years, also at Ames as a manager. He took pride in his work and truly relished the friends he made during his time at work over the years. He received the Employee of the Month award. He had a passion for animals, especially his cat, Mystery. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, fishing and baking cookies for friends.
A celebration of his life was held at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown, Tuesday, August 11.
Fred Scaglione (1949 – 2015)
CHATHAM—Frederick Robert Scaglione, 65, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 6, 2015 surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born November 16, 1949 in New York City to Frank and Winifred (“Peg”) Scaglione, he was the editor and founder of the New York Non-Profit Press and was the former assistant commissioner of the New York City Child Welfare Administration.
He graduated from Bishop Riley High School in Queens and attended Queens College, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree and graduated from the New School University with his master’s degree in public administration. An avid reader, Mr. Scaglione was an active member and co-founder of the local non-fiction book club and enjoyed being a part of the community: attending plays, movies and local establishments as well as visiting family and friends.
He married Birgit Rasmussen May 11, 1985 in Brooklyn. She predeceased him November 4, 2011.
Mr. Scaglione is survived by: his two sons, Thomas (Lauren) Scaglione and Adam Scaglione. He is also survived by his close friend and partner, Wendy Conway.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Christ Our Emmanuel Church, 19 Park Row, Chatham at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of New York State. Gary D. Simmons (1950 – 2015)
GERMANTOWN—Gary Donald Simmons, born in Rhinebeck, April 27, 1950; passed away at the age of 65 on July 7, 2015 after a long illness.
He was the son of the late Dorothy Ann (VanWagner) Simmons and Benjamin Harvey Simmons.
Mr. Simmons served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam from 1968 to 1972. He was a retired firefighter for Lynchburg, Ohio Fire Department.
He is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Marlene (Smith) Simmons; his two sons, Nicholas and Robert (Jessica) Simmons; three grandchildren, Emma, Eryn and Evan; three brothers and one sister, Wayne (Valerie) Simmons of South Carolina, Dane (Lisa) Simmons of North Carolina, John (Lydia) Simmons of Livingston and Deborah Simmons of New York; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Brenda Joyce McNeil.
Services will take place at the convenience of the family.

Anthony Villanova (1919 – 2015)
ALBANY—Anthony “Tony” Villanova passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center August 11, 2015. He was 95.
He was born October 30, 1919 in Barr, Pennsylvania, Cambria County, the son of Italian immigrants, Gaetano Villanova and Caterina Cogo.
He proudly served in the Seventh Armored Division’s 434th Armored Field Artillery Battalion and saw considerable action in the European Theater, including the pivotal defense of St. Vith in December 1944 during the Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge). By denying this strategic supply point for the German offensive far beyond the Germans’ timetable, it effectively doomed the entire offensive, making possible the defense of Bastogne. Mr. Villanova was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in World War II.
He was an “old school” trained master house painter and wallpaper hanger and was the owner of Villanova Painting and Paperhanging for 45 years.
He was married to his loving wife, Tullia Villanova, for 64 years and was a member of many civic organizations including the American Legion and VFW. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Stottville.
He is survived by: his wife, Tullia; daughter, Roberta Villanova Nunn (Ray) of Westerlo; son, Joseph Villanova (Jo-Ann) of Stottville; son, Anthony Villanova of Tucson, AZ; three granddaughters, Rebecca and Claire Villanova of Stottville and Aderia Crawford Nunn of Schenectady; his sister, Cathy Costacurta of Hudson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Peter, Louis and John and his sisters, Mary and Lina.

A calling hour will be held Saturday, August 15, 9 a.m. at the Bates and Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson, with funeral services at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Cedar Park Cemetery.
