Anna A. Farrere (1925 – 2019)
HILLSDALE—Anna Agnes (Svingala) Farrere, 94, of Hillsdale passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family, April 30, 2019.
She was born January 18, 1925 in West Taghkanic, the daughter of the late Marie and George Svingala.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert Farrere July 1, 2015 and her 10 brothers and sisters. Survivors include: sons, Ronald and Philip of Hillsdale, Michael Sr. of Canton, MI; daughter, Carol of Kinderhook; two grandsons, Brian Farrere of Commack and Michael Farrere, Jr., of Canton, MI; one great-granddaughter, McKenna Farrere of Hopewell Junction; many nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Hudson High School in 1943. During World War II, she worked in the naval yard as a riveter and then at GE in Schenectady. She was a consummate homemaker. She also worked on the family farm and sold real estate for more than 30 years in Columbia and Berkshire counties.
She married Albert in 1946. They were married for 68 years. During her lifetime, she attended Our Lady of Hope Church, Copake Falls. Mrs. Farrere enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, wildlife, the outdoors and her pets. She loved spending time with her family and participating in family gatherings. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Our Lady of Hope Parish, 8074 State Route 22 from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by Mass at 2 p.m. and interment in St. Bridget’s Cemetery.

James T. Trembly (1940 – 2019)
ALBANY—James “Jay” T. Trembly, 78, of Castleton passed away April 30, 2019 at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was the son of the late James and Sally Trembly, and the husband of Joanne Trembly.
He was born and raised in Troy. Mr. Trembly received his masters degree from Siena College, served four years in the U.S. Army and retired from the New York State Division of Parole in 1999. He loved Siena basketball and golfing.
He is survived by: four children, Jay Trembly, Danielle Ohrin, Sarah Trembly and Nicole Trembly; a sister, Diane Trembly; a niece, Lisa Verdonik; nephew, Eric Trembly; grandchildren, Tyler Trembly, Julianna Masi, Michael Ohrin, and A.J. Regnowski, as well as great-grandchildren. A wake was held at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, May 3, 2019. The burial service will be held May 7, 2019, 1 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
Elizabeth L. Young (1931 – 2019)
HUDSON—Elizabeth L. “Betty” Young, 88, of Taghkanic passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
She was born January 13, 1931 in the Bronx, the daughter of Anton and Lena (Falka) Remy.
She served the Town of Taghkanic as supervisor for 24 years from 1989 through 2013.
Prior to becoming supervisor, she served on the Taghkanic Town Board from 1982 to 1988.
She was a graduate of Roeliff Jansen Central High School in 1949 and the Columbia Memorial School of Nursing in 1952.
As a registered nurse, she worked for Columbia Memorial Hospital in the office of Dr. Joseph P. Gold and at Coarc’s workshop.
A life-member of the Taghkanic Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Mrs. Young was also a Coarc board member; a Columbia Opportunities Inc., board member; served on the administrative board of the West Taghkanic United Methodist and was a Sunday school teacher for 35 years. She was appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities in September 2001.
Her many awards included: 1992 appreciation award from Soil and Water Conservation District for genuine interest in the growth of agriculture in Columbia County; 1993 Columbia County Environmental Council Good Earthkeeping Award for County-wide Agricultural Preservation; 2002 The Young Republicans 2001 Award 41st annual Lincoln Day; the 2002 New York Senate Woman of Distinction Award sponsored by Senator Stephen M. Saland; 2009 Cornell Cooperative Extension in Columbia County for 20 years’ service as the supervisor representative to the Agriculture Committee, the Cooperative Extension building was named the Betty Young Meeting Hall; 2009 honored by the Columbia County Dialysis Center for her participation in helping to establish the new center.
On October 17, 1953 in Taghkanic, she married the late William H. Young, Jr., who was a farmer and served as a Taghkanic town justice for 20 years. He predeceased her January 14, 2009.
Survivors include: her three daughters, Barbara Gaylord (Ron) of Hudson, Carolyn Sammons (Kent) of Taghkanic, Beverly Rochler (Bob) of Taghkanic; nine grandchildren, Ronald Gaylord, III (Ashley), William Gaylord (Morgan), Nicole Webster (Steve), Kent Sammons, II (Nicole), Stephanie Hickey (Daniel), Stephen Rochler, Robert C. Rochler (Janine), Matthew Rochler (Jennifer), Jacqueline Fitzgerald (Timothy), several great-grandchildren, Ainslee, William, Jr., Austin, Savannah, Kent Jeffrey, III, Morgan, Kendall, Raegan, Landon, Caiden, Trenton, Warren and three new babies arriving this fall; a brother, Anton of Florida; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, William H. Young, III, November 23, 2010.
Calling hours are Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Route 22, Copake.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 from the funeral home at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Bonnie Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in West Taghkanic Cemetery.

Catherine Walsh (1930 – 2019)
LECANTO, FL—Catherine (Fogerty) Walsh, 88, a former longtime resident of Taghkanic, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Rose Castle of Citrus County in Lecanto, FL.
She was born June 17, 1930 in New York City to Augustine and Helen (Pray) Fogerty.
Before relocating to Florida, Mrs. Walsh was employed as a personnel supervisor at the Kimberly-Clark Paper Mill in Ancram. She and her husband also operated the Taghkanic Motel from 1970 to 1984.
On September 19, 1959, she married Lawrence J. Walsh. Mr. Walsh, who was the former Town of Taghkanic supervisor, predeceased her in 1995.
Private graveside services were held at St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Copake Falls.

Douglas Winslow (1950 – 2019)
RHINEBECK—Douglas Winslow, 68, of Gallatin passed away May 1, 2019 at Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Born August 25, 1950 in Schenectady, he was one of three children born to Edwin and Anna Belle (Monesko) Winslow.
To many, he was known as Coach Winslow, a name he cherished and held with great pride. He spent decades doing what he loved most—coaching and working with countless students.
Often, he was the tallest man in the room, but his size was only trumped by his larger-than-life personality and compassionate nature. Anyone lucky enough to meet “Doug” knows he was a renowned storyteller. He touched many lives with his words of wisdom, jokes and tall tales. Most will recall the stories of his glory days in the NFL, but his life would not have been complete had he not been able to teach. His booming voice and incredible ability to open his heart to others made him more than just a coach. To many, he was a teacher, mentor, friend, father-figure, and overall inspiration for how “we should treat the people around us.”
As a graduate of Burnt Hills High School and the University of Massachusetts, Mr. Winslow accepted an offer from the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent. Although it was a great opportunity, he returned home to be with family and began his career at the Roeliff Jansen School in the Taconic Hills School District. There, he was a physical education teacher, varsity football coach, basketball and track and field coach. He also taught Little League and swim class for the Town of Ancram.
In 1993, Mr. Winslow continued his career at what became his “home away from home”—Webutuck. During his time there, he served as an athletic director (1995-1998), JV boys basketball coach (1995-1998), class advisor (1998), and track and field coach (1994-2009). While there, he began serving as the head football coach at Stissing Mountain High School in Pine Plains. This is when he took the initiative to start and merge the Webutuck Football Program with Pine Plains. In 2002, Webutuck finally got its own football program, which filled him with immense pride. He retired from Webutuck in 2012 after a career he held in high-esteem. He was recognized many times for his great accomplishments and has countless awards to show for his work over the past three decades.
In his spare time, Mr. Winslow loved to be outdoors, especially near the water. Fishing, swimming, boating and just spending time in his “man cave” brought him incredible joy. He was an avid gardener, talented builder and spent hours on his boat, both in and out of the water.
The only thing he loved more than all of this was his family. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather, “Pe-Pa.”
He is survived by: his wife, Lynn Winslow; daughters, Catherine Winslow and Audrey Winslow; a son, Taylor DeGeorge (Charlee) and their two sons, Tylor and Jaxon, and a son, Eric Winslow and family. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Sisco and her daughter, Lehanne; his brother, Ed Winslow (Priscilla) and their sons, Timothy and Alan, and his niece, Tammy Holdridge-Lasusa and her son, Nicholas Lasusa.
“We have all been blessed to laugh, cry, love, and learn from Doug. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”
In celebration of his life, calling hours will be held Friday, May 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Route 22, Copake.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019, 11 a.m. from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ancram, with Vicar Jackie Jefferson officiating.
