Eva “Honey” Egan (1924 – 2017)
ALEXANDRIA, VA—Eva Helen “Honey” Scrodin Egan, 92, of Alexandria, VA, formerly of Elizaville, died Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at home.
She was born September 28, 1924 Hudson, the daughter of the late Paul and Margaret (Morgan) Scrodin.
A graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Hudson, she was an Army officer’s wife, traveled across country with three small children to board a ship and join her husband in Okinawa, where they lived for three years. They also lived in Maryland, Ohio, New Mexico and Virginia before retiring to New York. She was an expert seamstress and crafter who created beautiful clothes for herself, her children, and her grandchildren.
She loved her gardens and would be busy during the summer/fall canning the produce. Mrs. Egan helped her husband build their Elizaville home while raising five children. She was always up for an adventure.
She attended the Church of Nativity in Linlithgo, and the former Church of the Holy Cross in West Taghkanic. She volunteered at the Livingston Free Library, Meals on Wheels, Cooperative Extension and the Clermont Historic Site. To her, music was a joy. She always had a song to sing and loved to listen to and imitate the lovely bird calls she heard in the woods. “A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings simply because it has a song.” She kept up her feisty humor to the very end.
She is survived by: her children, Peter Egan (Lori) of Fredericksburg, VA, Ned Egan (Sheilah) of Easton, MD, Peggy McClure (Don) of Alexandria, VA, Timothy Egan (Pam) of Alexandria, VA, Mary Egan of Watervliet; her siblings, Margaret Scrodin C.S.J., Benjamin Scrodin, Genevieve Van Tine and Bernadette Orr; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by husband, Peter F. Egan, who died May 23, 1996; brother, Paul Scrodin and sister, Mary Ann Scrodin.
Services were held Monday, September 25 at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown and the Church of the Resurrection in Germantown, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Reverend Winston Bath.
Interment followed in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Livingston Free Library, P.O. 105 Livingston, 12241 or Livingston Pumper Company #1, 2855 Route 9, Hudson 12534
