Mildred G. Duval (1921 – 2014)
LIVINGSTON—Mildred G. Duval, 93, formerly of Kingston and Newburgh, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Livingston Hills Nursing Center.
Born February 7, 1921 in New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of late Abraham Goodin and Bridget Manuel Goodin.
She married Arcade Duval November 4, 1950 and he predeceased her September 4, 1984.
Mrs. DuVal’s greatest passion was her family, she also enjoyed working with word puzzles, watching figure skating and tennis, reading and playing bingo.
She is survived by: her son and daughter-in-law, Gary (Linda) Duval of Kingston; two sisters, Louise and Irene, both of Connecticut; her loving grandchildren, Michelle (Jared) Capaldo of Rhinebeck and Stacey Duval of Kingston; her great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Tyler, Gabrielle, Nella and Mason; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Richard Duval, her siblings and step-siblings, Arthur, Boyd, Norma, Theresa, Evelyn, Clifford and Theresa.
Services were held will be held Tuesday, October 28, the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook. The Reverend Ryan Lesh officiated. Graveside services and interment were at St. Francis Cemetery, New Windsor, Wednesday, October 29.

Joseph E. Mabb, Sr. (1949 – 2014)
ALBANY—Joseph E. Mabb, Sr., 65, of Kinderhook died Monday, October 27, 2014 at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Born June 30, 1949 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Osbourne and Doris (Turner) Mabb.
Mr. Mabb worked for several area auto body repair shops and was also a tow truck driver. Auto racing was the love of his life. He not only raced but was the owner/operator of Mabb’s Auto Sports 402. He especially loved spending time with his family, and was a fixture at many local restaurants.
He is survived by: his ex-wife, Patricia Moskaluk of Stockport; his daughter, Laura Mabb of Nassau; his son, Joseph E. Mabb, Jr., (Deborah) of Hudson; four sisters, Donna Stoddard of Hudson, Theresa Clark of Stockport, Maggie Ingham of Niverville and Karen Buffa of Hudson; one brother, Brian Mabb of Stockport; six grandchildren, Anna Ryan, Timothy Lentz, Jr., Avery Bednar, Brandon Mabb, Joseph Mabb, III, and Joshua Mabb; one great-grandson, Sebastian Ryan; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Donald (Elmer), Osbourne, Jr., and Linda Dedrick.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie.
A celebration of Mr. Mabb’s life will be held Sunday, November 2 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Stockport firehouse. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stockport Fire Company, East Coast Riders or the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.
Brian J. Conway (1945 – 2014)
HUDSON—Brian J. Conway, 69, of Valatie died Monday, October 27, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born October 23, 1945 in Troy, he was the son of the late Daniel and Helen (O’Brien) Conway.
Mr. Conway was a veteran with the U.S. Coast Guard and for 23 years was a New York State trooper. He worked in various area locations and retired from the Loudonville barracks. He had very strong views about politics and enjoyed writing letters to the editor in the local papers. He was an avid hunter.
He is survived by: his wife, Beth D. (Taber) Conway; his daughter, Alison B. Conway (Kevin Martin) of Valatie; his son, Owen B. Conway of Valatie; a sister, Sharon Farnam (Kevin) of Troy; a brother, Daniel Conway (Vanessa) of California; a grandson, Bradley Martin; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 2, 4 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with the Reverend George Fleming officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Sunday, November 2, 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the funeral. Captain James A. Hatch (1929 – 2014)
WEST PALM BEACH, FL—Captain James A. Hatch, age 88, a long-time resident of Stephentown died October 25 at the Veterans Administration Hospital.
He was a graduate of Chatham High School in the class of 1944, and following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
“Jim,” as he was affectionately known by his scores of friends and relatives, served in the U.S. Navy both during World War II and Korea, where he developed his love of the sea, ships and boating. He spent most of the remainder of his life in both professional and recreational boating; always looking for one way or another to be on the water.
He spent years running barges and tugs on the Florida coastal and intracoastal waterways. While living and working in Columbia County, he was constantly boating on the Hudson River and active in numerous marine and waterway organizations, including the Catskill Yacht Club, where he served four terms as commodore. He also served as commodore of the Mohawk Hudson Council of Yacht Clubs.
His boating skills and marine knowledge were well-known and respected. He held a United States Coast Guard captain’s license in the U.S. Merchant Marine.
Captain Hatch did not limit his involvements and interests solely to boating. His enthusiasm and commitment to veterans was wide-ranging. He was actively involved in several organizations, serving as commander of the Columbia County American Legion Post; as a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hobe Sound, Florida, as well as a life member of the Disabled American Veterans in Port Lucie, Florida. Capt. Hatch was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and an active member of Masonic United Lodge #9 in New Lebanon. He was known for his gracious and generous treatment of all people and his enthusiastic enjoyment of life.
He is survived by: his three children, Jeffrey A. Hatch of Roanoke, VA, James A. Hatch, Jr., of Phoenix, AZ, and his daughter, Jacqueline Agogliati of West Windsor, NJ; his brother, Ward S. Hatch of New Lebanon; two grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the Church of Our Savior in New Lebanon, Tuesday, November 4 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Flat Brook Cemetery of Cannon.

Evelyn D. Gardner (1929 – 2014)
HILLSDALE—Evelyn “Evie” D. Gardner, 85, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, October 27, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 3, 1929 in Littleton, NH, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Alice Goodell.
Mrs. Gardner was a real estate broker and co-owner of Gardner & Gardner Real Estate in Hillsdale with her late husband, Charles “Bud” K. Gardner, Jr. They started the insurance business in Hudson in the 1950s. Mr. and Mrs. Gardner were married for 63 years before his passing in 2012. They enjoyed living and raising their family on Copake Lake, at first spending the summer there and then building their home there. She loved water and snow skiing and gardening.
Mrs. Gardner was the beloved mother of Charles “Buddy” K. Gardner, III, and his wife, Judy, of Hillsdale, Christine G. Messenger (George Czerno) of Hillsdale and Linda Dedrick, and her husband, Wayne, of Hillsdale; grandmopther to five loving grandchildren, Alicia O’Rourke Fink and her husband Jed and their children, Logan and Kaitlin of Austerlitz, Justin and Beth Gardner and their son, Bennett of Massachusetts, Seth Gardner of Hillsdale, Christopher Dedrick of East Greenbush and Wayne Dedrick, Jr., of Germantown, and many nieces and nephews.

Eileen Harkins (1935 – 2014)
RHINEBECK—Eileen Harkins, 79, of Livingston died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Born April 13, 1935 in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Marguerite (Kammerer) Tobin.
Mrs. Harkins was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed yard sales and NASCAR.
Survivors include: her husband, Calvin; one son, Rich (Angel) Harkins of Livingston; daughter, Pat Harkins of Binghamton; brother, Robert Tobin of Florida; sister, Ruth McKeever of Clinton Corners; granddaughter, Taura Harkins and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours.
Services will be held Saturday, November 1, 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Pine Plains, where a Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be private in the Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel. Arrangements are with the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown.
