Robert W. Levy (1962 – 2016)

GALLATIN—Robert Walter Levy, 54, of Asheville, NC, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016.

He was born and spent his youth in the Oranges and Westfield, NJ, but spent his weekends and vacations for 30 years at the family’s home, Bluebird Hill Farm in Gallatin.

He attended the Gill St. Bernard School in Bernardsville, NJ, and Monmouth College.

Mr. Levy was a classically trained pianist and master piano restorer for some of the most important music halls in New York City and later an antiques dealer. He had a knack for finding rare antiquities, among them an original red vinyl 1957 Elvis Presley Christmas Album that was the most expensive record ever sold at Christie’s Auction House.

Mr. Levy relocated to Asheville, NC, in 2003 and purchased a ranch that became a sanctuary for neglected and abandoned farm animals. Goat Mountain Sanctuary, as it became known, provided a home for more than 90 animals and welcomed many volunteers who shared Mr. Levy’s passion for animals.

He leaves behind his father, Ira A. Levy and stepmother, Elaine Levy of Gallatin; his mother, Ancie Manuel of Asheville, NC; sister, Patricia Levy; brothers, Seth Levy and Kurt Rogers; nieces, Miranda Levy, Makiyla Levy, Sarah Rogers and Grace Rogers; and nephews, Kiva Levy and Jackson Rogers.

Memorial donations would be appreciated in support of the National Parkinson Foundation, www.parkinson.org
