Edward B. Carter (1941 – 2019)
GALLATIN—Edward B. Carter, 77, passed away at home Friday, April 12, 2019.
He was born September 6, 1941 in Lakeville, CT, the son of Edward T. and Virginia (Kimble) Carter.
He graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, CT, in 1959. He attended Oliver Wolcott trade school in Torrington, CT, and became a plumber for the Connecticut Plumbers’ Union. He then worked for Perotti & Son before becoming a self-employed plumber.
Mr. Carter was a member and past officer of the Empire Driving Club.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting. He loved horses and harness racing with which he was involved since 1978. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
On April 7, 2001 in Churchtown, Mr. Carter married Debbie L. (Miller) Carter. She survives him at home.
In addition to his loving wife, Debbie, survivors include: his daughters, Tonya Carter (Charles), Lynn Brandt (Carl); sons, Jeremy Brandt (Angela), Justin Carter; grandchildren, Connor and Brooke Simmons, Corie Miller and Trenton Brandt; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Edward Blair Carter, Jr., in 1968; a sister, Dale Huggins, and a brother, Peter Carter.
There are no calling hours or services.
Interment and a memorial service will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Purple Haze Standardbred Adoption Program or the Standardbred Retirement Foundation.

Douglas A. Akin (1956 – 2019)
CHATHAM—Douglas Andrew Akin passed away April 13, 2019. He was born June 13, 1956 in Hudson, to the late Nancy Akin and Donald Akin.
He was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Akin and step-daughter, Cheryl Kohler.
Surviving are: his loving wife, Cathy Akin; father, Donald Akin; daughter, Jenna (Matthew) Tessitore; son, Matthew Akin; step-daughter, Sarah (Carl) Welch; step-son, Joshua (Bobbi-Jean) Schrader; son-in-law, Brian Kohler and his brothers, Donald, Daniel, David and Darrin Akin. The light of his life were his grandchildren, Bryar, Hunter, Easton, Emma, Madelyn, Darren and Jemma.
Mr. Akin graduated from Chatham High School in 1974 and attended the Culinary Institute of America. He joined the Chatham Fire Department in 1975 and was a lifelong member. Mr. Akin retired from the Hudson Correctional Facility in 2011. He was musically talented and enjoyed playing the drums. He spent many years as drummer and singer in the band, Jarrod. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his family and friends and traveling on golf outings. He knew how to make anyone laugh and will be remembered for his great sense of humor and kindness. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Calling hours will be Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the French, Gifford, Preiter, and Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham from 4 to 7p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 19, 2019, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow.
