Venanzo Carlucci (1932 – 2020)
ALBANY—Venanzo Carlucci, 87, of Ghent passed away peacefully February 12, 2020 at St. Peter’s Hospital.
He was born June 11, 1932, the son of the late Augusto and Sarah Carlucci.
After graduating high school he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, where he was a Golden Glove boxer. When he returned home, he went to work for IBM in both Poughkeepsie and Kingston. He retired after 30+ years. His greatest joys in life were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed square dancing and camping.
Mr. Carlucci is survived by: two devoted children, Julia Carlucci Greer (Adam Greer) and Nicolina Carlucci McKay (Michael McKay); his six beloved grandchildren, Christina and Chantel Carlucci, Thomas and Ashley Greer, and Dustin (Ashley Smith) and Sarah McKay; eight great-grandchildren, Mycah, Lucas, Haniah, Eli, Owen, Charlotte, Thomas and Riley; his sister, Julia Carlucci Graziano.
He was predeceased by: his loving wife of 58 years, Helen Carlucci in 2015; his brothers, Nicola and Ronald Carlucci; his sister, Angela Ferraro and his nephew, Louis Ferraro.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 19, 2020, 11 a.m. from the Bates and Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Interment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery.

Terrence P. Meara (2003 – 2020)
HUDSON—Terrence P. Meara of Hudson passed away February 13, 2020.
He was born February 22, 2003 in Rhinebeck, the son of the late Gregory and Christine (Pastrana) Meara.
He was an avid reader, who loved history, especially American history, and politics. He was passionate about the United States of America and the military. His ambition was to join the U.S. Navy, and he was currently involved with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Mahon Division out of Glenville. Terrence will be remembered as a true patriot.
He is survived by: his mother and stepfather, Christine Meara- Kaplowitz and Alan Kaplowitz; his brother, David Kaplowitz; grandmother, Beth Kaplowitz; grandparents, Patricia and Earl May and Ronald Pastrana; his aunt, Sheri Donlan; uncles, Guy Pastrana and Chris Meara; his cousins, Adam, Alyssa and Aaron Meara, Sara, Jack and George Donlan, and Guy Jr. and Marlena Pastrana.
He was predeceased by his father, Gregory Patrick Meara and his grandmother, Josephine Pastrana.
A funeral service was held February 17, 2020 from Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Dorothy G. Losee (1919 – 2020)
SHARON, CT—Dorothy Goold Losee was born July 31, 1919 in Ghent. Ghent was the center of her life for the next 100 years. She passed away February 14, 2020 at the Sharon Heath Care Facility.
She attended the Ghent School and graduated from Chatham High School. She then went to New York City to study nursing at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. She loved this time and made many friendships that lasted through her life. On February 8, 1942, she married her beloved, Henry B. Losee of Spencertown. He returned from his World War II service in 1945 and they settled in Ghent, purchasing Mrs. Losee’s dream house in the village. There they raised four daughters, along with countless crops of corn, beans, tomatoes, strawberries and acres of beautiful flowers.
Mrs. Losee was employed by Chatham Central School, working in the district office and serving as the treasurer of the district. She retired in 1984.
She was a lifelong member, for more than 80 years, of the Ghent Reformed Church. She was active in the Church’s Ladies Aid Society, Ghent Mother’s Club and a monthly card club. Mr. and Mrs. Losee loved to fish and looked forward every year to the time spent at Peck’s Lake outside
Gloversville. Sometimes a week at Linger Long cabin, sometimes just a day trip to picnic at Rock Island. Later in life they spent many days fishing on the Mohawk River.
Mrs. Losee served several years as historian for the Town of Ghent. This was a responsibility she fully enjoyed. Her favorite part was helping people find that old farm where their great-grandfather had lived or just how those cousins were related back in 1876.
After both were retired, Mr. and Mrs. Losee enjoyed their free time. They took a cross country train trip to Washington State to visit her cousin, stopping for a few days at Glacier Park along the way. They took many trips around the northeast and into Canada, explored new fishing holes, enjoyed their garden, rabbit barbecues and events at the Omi Country Club.
After Mr. Losee passed in 2000, Mrs. Losee continued to enjoy the company of her family many friends around Ghent. Special thanks to Stan and Maryanne Engle who were such good friends to her. And to Bunny deLong who faithfully kept in touch during the last few years.
She is survived by: children, Margaret (Michael) Lotvin, David, Priscilla (Ronald) Sherman, Paul, Jill (Yvonne) Losee and Janet (Robert) Skidmore; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by: a granddaughter, Darlene Sherman; her parents, Franklin and Helen Goold and her brother, Gordon C. Goold.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, February 24, 11 a.m. from the Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Avenue, Chatham. Inurnment will be in the Ghent Union Cemetery. For online condolences visit wenkfuneralhome.com
Dorothy C. Ostrowski (1926 – 2020)
VALATIE—Dorothy C. Ostrowski, 93, of Valatie passed away peacefully after a brief illness Sunday, February 16, 2020.
Born September 18, 1926 in North Chatham on the family homestead on Route 17, she was the daughter the late Arthur C. and Carrie A. (Popans) Howard.
“Dot” was a lifetime resident of Columbia County living on Route 203 since 1952. She graduated from Martin Van Buren School in Kinderhook in 1946. She married the late Edward Ostrowski on her birthday, September 18, 1949. He predeceased her in August 1990. She, along with her husband Ed were dairy herd supervisors for 28 years. She also was a food service helper and cook at the Ichabod Crane Primary School for 16 years. Mrs. Ostrowski was a past-chairman of the Niverville Home Demonstration unit, a 4H member and 20-year leader of the Up-to-the-Minute Girls 4H club. She was a past master and secretary of Lindenwald Grange #985, past secretary of the Golden Agers of Columbia County, past treasurer and a charter life-member of the Niverville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Her other memberships included the North Chatham Methodist Church, St. John’s Elves, the Board of Trustees of Woodlawn Cemetery, North Chatham Historical Society, the Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District, Mellenville Grange #1255 including its executive committee, a director on Columbia County Fair Grange exhibits. She joined the Tri-Village Senior Citizens in 1992 and held the office of president. In May 2008, the senior building in Valatie was dedicated in her name, the “Dotty Ostrowski Senior Center.” She was always ready to help someone in need and was proud of her vegetable and flower gardens. She loved her home and to cook and bake, especially apple pie for the Elves. If asked to a party, her remark always was, “I’m a worker and not a party person.” She will be missed by a large circle of friends and family.
She is survived by: her daughter, Doreen Ann Worrell and her husband William of Red Hook; her son, Howard Ostrowski and his wife Deborah of Chatham Center; a sister, Adeline Ostrowski of Chatham; and was known as G.G. to Chris, Tricia, Connor and Ella Hahn and Jaime, Chad, Jared, Maddie and Emma Zalucky; several nieces and nephews and her grandchildren with four legs, Abbey, Shelby, Grayson, Olivia and Simon.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020, 11 a.m., at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie. Calling hours will be Friday, February 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. before the funeral.
