Mary Ann Call (1961 – 2016)

CRARYVILLE—Mary Ann Call, 55, of Craryville passed away in the arms of her loved ones, Thursday June 23, 2016 at her residence.

She was born March 26, 1961 in Glen Cove, a daughter of the late Albert W. and June (Eberhard) Allchin.

She was also predeceased by a brother, Albert, Jr. “Billy.”

Mrs. Call lived life to the fullest and was the rock of her family. She was very proud of her accomplishments including returning to school after 20 years to receive her GED. Outspoken, she let you know when you were wrong! Mrs. Call was a strong-willed woman with a mission in life to hold her family together.

She was employed as a CNA at Livingston Hills for more than 18 years. Residents and co-workers adored her and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by: her husband and the love of her life, David B. Call; a daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Matthew Charpentier; daughter, Krystle Call; her beloved grandchildren, who were her life, Lillian Bartow, Sean Bartow, Tyrel Graham, Michael Anthony and Alexandria “YaYa” Anthony. She also leaves her siblings, Elizabeth, Jo and Jessica along with her sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna, Miriam, Bonnie, Sandy, George and Charlie and several nieces and nephews.

Private visitation was held Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Route 22, Copake. Interment will be held at a later date.

Barbara Bagner-Goldstein

Barbara A. Bagner-Goldstein (1946 – 2016)

ALBANY—Barbara Anne Bagner-Goldstein, 69, of Hudson died peacefully Sunday, June 26, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital with her family by her side.

Born August 19, 1946 in West Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Edik and Sara (Sunshine) Rutkowska. Ms. Bagner-Goldstein was the co-owner/operator of Blima’s catering in Hudson with her husband, Barry.

She was a volunteer firefighter and first responder at the Stockport Fire Department.

Ms. Bagner-Goldstein, born “Blima,” had a passion for life and a unique creative ability that she expressed in all that she did. She immigrated to America at age five, from a displaced persons camp in Germany, her parents were Holocaust survivors. Ms. Bagner-Goldstein captured compassion, empathy and hope in much of her artwork. She was a talented and accomplished artist, chef and goldsmith. Her love of humanity was apparent from the moment anyone met her. She found it a necessity to offer help to anyone in need, whether it was food for those less fortunate, spiritual guidance, advice and even the selfless act of donating her own bone marrow to a stranger in need. She lived seeking spiritual awareness in a path that harmonized her energy with the Universe.

Ms. Bagner-Goldstein is survived by: her beloved husband, Barry Goldstein at home; her son, David Bagner of Albany; daughters, Allyson and (Jim) Perdue of Livonia, Joyce and (Bob) Hetherington of Millstone, NJ, and Beth Bagner of Kingston; grandchildren, Jordon, Sara, Logan and Maddox.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hudson-Chatham Winery, 1900 State Route 66 Ghent.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Thelma I. Wolferstieg (1923 – 2016)

GHENT—Thelma I. Wolferstieg, 92, formerly of Claverack, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Whittier Nursing Center.

Born September 9, 1923 in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of Louis and Lillian Steckley.

Mrs. Wolferstieg was a secretary for Dr. Algird White in Philmont. She was also a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, William B. Wolferstieg; a sister, Doris LaCassie, and a brother, Walter Grunow.

Funeral services are private.

Catherine A. Myers (1960 – 2016)

CLEVELAND, OH—Catherine A. Myers, 56, of Albany died Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic.

Born May 22, 1960 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Francis M. and Isabel (Lebrecht) Myers-Heald.

Her friends and family knew her as a kind person, with a keen mind and quick wit. She found the interesting and absurd in everyday life and shared the joy of those things with all around her. Ms. Myers touched many people with her kind and generous spirit.

She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

She is survived by: her longtime companion, Megan McCormack of Albany; sister, Maryanne (Edgar) Hernandez of Valatie; a brother, Michael F. (Sandra) Myers of Stuyvesant; brother-in-law, Michael C. Skinner of Mentor, OH; her nieces, Erin Skinner, Elizabeth “Beth,” Elaine and Emily Hernandez, Kimberly Myers, Erin Hildreth and her nephews, Tyler Myers, and Timothy Atkins.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her step-father

Douglas Heald; sisters, Margaret F. Myers and Doris M. Skinner and brother, Robert J. Myers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 1, 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Valatie with the Reverend George Fleming officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. Memorial contributions may be made to Donate Life, the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern NY or Double H Ranch.

Thomas E. MacDonald (1917 – 2016)

STUYVESANT—Thomas Edward MacDonald, 98, of Stuyvesant died Monday, June 27, 2016 at his home.

Born November 15, 1917 in New York City, he was the son of the late John Davidson and Eliza (Bonner) MacDonald.

His parents were Vaudeville and theater artists who came to New York where he was born. He was in Vaudeville and theater in England before joining the British Army, the French Foreign Legion and ultimately the U.S. Army Combat Engineers and QuarterMasters Service Co. He was a self-employed general contractor, locksmith and glazier in New York City. He was a member, past commander and on the County Council Committee for the Stuyvesant Falls VFW Post #9593, a past commander and life member of the Columbia County DAV #194, a life member of the American Legion Post #184 in Hudson, a U.S. VA representative for the VFW at the Albany Veterans Administration Hospital and on the VFW Committees for the post and the Third District.

He is survived by: his daughter, Gloria Gaumont of Taylor, SC; former daughter-in-law Mary Wheeler; six grandchildren, Kenneth MacDonald, Jr., Barbara MacDonald, Tracy Mabb, Tammy MacDonald, Valerie and Kirk Gaumont; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Rebecca Mabb, Cady and Sean MacDonald. He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce (Milford) MacDonald and two sons, Terrance and Kenneth MacDonald and his brother, John MacDonald.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, noon at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with the Reverend Mark Diebel officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Stockport.

Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stuyvesant Falls VFW Post #9593.

Carol A. Avanzato (1949 – 2016)

STEPHENTOWN—Carol A. Van Wagner Avanzato, age 66 years, passed away at her residence, Saturday, June 25, 2016.

She was born October 20, 1949 in Hudson and lived in Mellenville in Columbia County before moving to Stephentown 10 years ago.

Ms. Avanzato was employed as a technician for Berkshire Medical Center. She was a cat lover who had two cats, Tika and Molly. She loved flowers and her garden and she loved to travel. She enjoyed going to Disney World and her encounters with Mickey Mouse.

She was the daughter of the late Roy and Bertha Whitbeck Van Wagner; sister of Sharon Van Wagner and Jean Dellea; aunt of Karen and Roxanne Matthews; and great aunt of Adam Matthews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 30 at 10 a.m. from the W.J. Lyons, Jr., Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home, Wednesday, June 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Mellenville Cemetery, Claverack. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands 12204 or Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Avenue, Scotia 12302.
