Michael F. Burrows (1957 – 2019)
HUDSON—Michael Frank Burrows of Chatham went home to be with the Lord June 18, 2019 at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a long struggle with diabetes and its many complications. Born September 10, 1957 in Hudson, he was the son of the late William and Marion Podgorski Burrows.
He grew up and was educated in Chatham (class of 1975). “Mike” was a member of Ocean Fire Company for more than 40 years. He was also a member of the NRA, the Canaan Conservation Club, the Kinderhook Sportsmen’s Club, the Oath Keepers, the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Chatham Rescue Squad. He never said no to anyone who needed help, anticipating the needs, always going above and beyond what was asked.
Mr. Burrows is survived by his fiancée and life partner, Marie Miano; sister, Cynthia Tunis; brother, Bill (Cindy) Burrows; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnephews, grandnieces, four godsons and his beloved fur babies, Fred and Ethel.
Services were held Friday, June 21 at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham. Interment followed at Chatham Rural Cemetery.

Joseph F. Baker (1931 – 2019)
HUDSON—Joseph F. Baker passed away June 17, 2019 after a short bout with cancer.
He was born November 4, 1931 in Stockport. He was the son of Howard and Elizabeth (Phillips) Baker.
“Joe” served in the Army as a sergeant first class during the Korean War. On September 17, 1950 he married Arlene Funk. Together they enjoyed 68 years of marriage.
Mr. Baker worked for Cairo Mobile Homes, as a transporter, and installer prior to his retirement. He was a 60-plus year member of C.H. Evans Hook and Ladder, a former member of the Hudson Fish and Game Club, and a faithful parishioner of Trinity United Methodist Church. Watching NASCAR and attending stock car races were passions for him, he watched every race for many years.
Mr. Baker is survived by: his wife, Arlene; his only daughter, Donna Marie Race; his grandson, Daniel Joseph Race; his brother and sister, Gordon E. Baker of Livingston, and Barbara Rogers of Titusville, FL; many nieces and nephews. His beloved black lab, Cindy predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at noon from the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Interment will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery. Eric M. Van Deusen (1943 – 2019)
HUDSON—Eric M. Van Deusen, 75, passed away peacefully June 19, 2019 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 26, 1943 in Alexandria, Virginia to the late Kenneth and Irene Van Deusen.
In 1961 he graduated from Ockawamick School, and furthered his education at Union College, and then SUNY Oneonta. He was a librarian for many years at Columbia-Greene Community College. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking at Minnewaska State Park. As time permitted, he also volunteered many hours at the Mohonk Preserve doing trail maintenance.
Mr. Van Deusen is survived by: his brother, Donald Van Deusen of Hudson; his sister, Judy Widman of San Diego, CA; two nieces and three nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday, June 28, 2019, 1 p.m. from Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Inurnment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Churchtown. Robert S. Coons (1942 – 2019)
ALBANY—Robert S. Coons, 76, of Hudson passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at St. Peter’s Hospital.
He was the son of the late Caroline and Ernest Coons.
He was a skilled laborer for the Columbia County Highway and Solid Waste departments prior to his retirement.
Mr. Coons is survived by: his wife, Delores Coons of Hudson; three daughters, Lori Drabick (Pete), Stacy Coons (Josh), Kritrina Coons (Bernard); one son, Eric Coons (Heather); five granddaughters; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; eight siblings; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Coons was predeceased by five siblings.
Visitation was Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.
Robert A. Barbini (1958 – 2019)
ALBANY—Robert A. Barbini, 61, of Germantown passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 8, 1958 in the Bronx, he was the son of Maria Ponzini Barbini of Germantown and the late Aldo Barbini.
He married Lori Altobello October 25, 1987 in the Bronx. She currently resides at home in Germantown.
Mr. Barbini proudly served in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1980.
For many years, and until his retirement, he worked for New York State. Most recently, he was plant superintendent with the NYS Department of Corrections in Hudson.
Mr. Barbini enjoyed traveling to Cabo San Lucas with his family for many years. He was an avid fisherman and spent a great deal of time on the water with the many friends he made. He also enjoyed learning about Mexican cuisine. Aside from fishing, Mr. Barbini’s many interests included hunting, cooking, and tending to his beehives.
In addition to his loving wife of 31 years, and his mother, he is survived by: his daughter, Maria Barbini of Germantown; son, Bobby Barbini of Germantown; his sister-in-law, Lisa and brother-in law, Robert Lupien of Middletown; his uncle, Peter Barbini and aunt, Laura of Queens; his nieces, Kristina Beghyn of Branchville, NJ, Danielle Ritz of Alanson, MI, and Nicole Turner of Middletown; along with numerous extended family, colleagues and friends.
Friends may call at the Burnett and White Funeral Homes, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook, Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 24, 2019, 10 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection in Germantown. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.

Richard H. Blakney (1950 – 2019)
POUGHKEEPSIE—Richard H. Blakney, 68, of Gallatin left for his eternal home Saturday, June 15, 2019 from Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born August 17, 1950, in Rhinebeck, he was the son of the late Elbert S. and Mary (Howard) Blakney. “Rich” married Cheryl Schultz October 18,1975, and she survives at home.
He served in the United States Air Force for 30 years in both active and reserve duty. In civilian life he was a mobile radio technician for 20 years. Mr. Blakney was a member of Shekomeko American Legion Post #426 in Pine Plains and the Banner of Love Church in Port Ewen.
He was an avid outdoorsman who delighted in hunting with both gun and camera. He also enjoyed fishing, a legacy which he imparted to his son, Jason, a fisheries biologist. He was also a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees.
In addition to his loving wife, Cheryl Blakney, he is survived by: his beloved children, Janel (Kevin Fields) Blakney of Hong Kong and Jason (Hayley Allen) Blakney of Thompson Falls, MT; his precious grandchildren, Emmett and Sage Blakney; his devoted siblings, Jim (Kelly Preyer) Blakney of Red Hook, Trish Blakney of Pine Plains, Karen (Gary) Funk of Pine Plains Jeanne Lutz of Pine Plains; his mother-in-law, Isobel Schultz; four nephews; a grandniece and nephew; numerous extended family, and friends. His canine friends, Shiloh and Annabelle, will also sorely miss him. He was preceded in death by his sister, Michele Barker.
A memorial service will be held June 28, 4 p.m. at the Banner of Love Church, Port Ewen. A celebration of Mr. Blakney’s life will be held at the American Legion Hall in Pine Plains June 29 beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
