Barbara L. Brown (1934 – 2017)

SEMINOLE, FL—Barbara L. Brown, 83, of Seminole, FL, formerly of Hudson, passed away July 27, 2017 at her home in Florida.

She was born March 12, 1934 in Hudson, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Babjeck) Merkle.

She graduated from Hudson High School, and went on to earn her nursing degree from Columbia Memorial Hospital. She worked for many years at the Firemen’s Home, as a registered nurse, and retired as the home’s assistant director of nursing. She met her late husband, Arthur F. Brown in Hudson, and in 1955 they were married. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage. She and her husband enjoyed traveling; especially to Florida, and wintered there until eventually moving there. She was a very devoted mother, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Brown is survived by: her daughters, Theresa Mannari (Rudy) and Frances Sheldon; her six grandchildren, Brian Mannari, Jenine Hollenbeck, Stephanie Carr, Zachary Sbrocco, Gregory Brown, Jr., and Brittany Brown; her three great-grandchildren, Adelyn Mannari, Jude Hollenbeck and Logan Brown.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur F. Brown; her son, Greg Brown and her grandson, Thomas Brown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, August 3, 2017, 10 a.m. from the Church of St. Joseph, 2824 Atlantic Avenue, Stottville. Interment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, August 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Paul Harris Berna (1936 – 2017)

PINE PLAINS—Paul Harris Berna, 80, a nine-year resident of Pine Plains, formerly of Copake and New York City, died peacefully Saturday, July 29, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Berna was a professional dancer and hairstylist in New York City for many years prior to his retirement.

Born November 14, 1936 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Victor W. and Margaret L. Groen Berna.

He attended and graduated high school in Chicago and was a graduate of the Chicago Art Institute.

Mr. Berna is survived by: his sister, Carolyn Williams Glomb; a niece, Dawn Nevel; dear friends, Anne and Steve Whitehouse of Copake, Anne Veteran of Millerton, Heather Thomson of North Egremont, MA, and his companion, Dylan Ftera of Pine Plains and New York City; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Berna was predeceased by four siblings.
