John Brodowski (1922 – 2016)

HUDSON—John “Johnny” Brodowski, 93, a lifelong resident of Hudson, died peacefully Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born in Hudson September 22, 1922, he was the son of the late John and Magdelina (Hornet) Brodowski.

He graduated from Hudson High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater, and bravely did his part in the Normandy invasion earning both a Silver Star and Purple Heart for injuries received.

He was the owner and operator of Johnny’s Ideal Printing in Hudson for many years, and was a proud member of the American Legion Post #184 in Hudson.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 70 years, Virginia E. (Phillips) Brodowski, who survives at home; his sons, J. Thomas (Janice) Brodowski of Hudson and Timothy Allen (Cynthia) of San Diego, CA; daughter, Patricia Ann (Frank) Baillargeon of Eagle, Idaho; brother, Anthony Brodowski of Greenport; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2016, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 16, 10 am. at the funeral home with Pastor Jonathan Hodges officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery.

James L. Palladino (1928 – 2016)

VALATIE—James L. Palladino, age 87, of Route 9H, Kinderhook died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Barnwell Nursing Home.

Born October 29, 1928 in Astoria, Long Island, he was the son of the late Anna and Anthony Palladino, Sr.

The family later moved to Chatham Center to run a dairy farm until 1962.

In 1964 Mr. Palladino bought his own farm which he ran for several years. He also worked for the Town of Kinderhook Highway Department for many years until retiring. He then worked at St John the Baptist Church in Valatie. He was a member of the John J. Curran Knights of Columbus and the Donald E. LaValley Knights of Hudson until his illness.

Mr. Palladino is survived by: his wife, June Driscoll Palladino; daughter, Janice (Daniel) Fuda of Kinderhook; two brothers, Anthony (Marietta) Palladino, Jr., of Averill Park and Gerard (Betsy) Palladino of Chatham Center; cousin, John (Rita) Paladino of Valatie; many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 18, 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Valatie. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, March 17, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society or St. John’s Church.

George A. Salensky

RHINEBECK—George A. Salensky, 90, of Elizaville died March 12, 2016 at Northern Dutchess Hospital.

Mr. Salensky was a graduate of New York Polytechnic University, Columbia University and held an honorary doctorate from Lehigh University. He worked well into his 80s as a research scientist with more than 100 patents for organizations such as NASA, Union Carbide and Warner Lambert.

Mr. Salensky was dedicated to promoting healthy living and eating for the past 50 years. He loved contra dancing and classical music and was an avid supporter of music at the Bard Conservatory.

He was a lecturer in the Catholic Church for many years and also attended Clermont Bible Church.

Recently, Mr. Salensky worked tirelessly both publicly and privately to advocate for victims of unaddressed elder abuse and fraud in Columbia County.

His fight will continue through George’s Justice, an organization that will provide free legal resources to county seniors and serve as a watchdog to ensure that local elected officials and law enforcement receives training to comply with state laws to protect county seniors from abuse and scams.

Mr. Salensky was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rita (Velten); sister, Theresa and brothers, Frank and Richard.

He is survived by: his sister, Lillian Salensky Leccese of San Diego; his beloved service dog, Ty; daughters, Kathryn and Marianne; grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown, Wednesday, March 16, 10 to 10:45 a.m.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Nativity in Linlithgo at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Livingston Cemetery.

Bonnie J. Golden Lowheit (1945 – 2016)

CHATHAM—Bonnie J. Golden Lowheit passed peacefully Saturday, March 12, 2016 with family near.

Born July 18, 1945 in Mt. Vernon.

She was predeceased by: her son, John Swartz; her father, Harold “Babe” Golden; her husband, Martin Lowheit and her sister, Roberta Rose.

She is survived by: her mother, Helen Wilber Golden; daughters, Donna O’Neil Herbert (Tom), Peggy O’Neil Cedri (Julio); close friend and companion, Wayne Rose; her granddaughters, Cindy Marinaro, Julia Marinaro and Jennifer Herbert; many nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own grandchildren with Charlie Rose being her pride and joy for the past six years.

Ms. Lowheit worked at Taconic Telephone Company in Chatham for many years, before working at Matthew Bender Co. (Nexus Lexus) in Menands for more than 30 years, retiring in 2007.

She was an avid bowler and golfer for more than 40 years. She also volunteered as co-director of Chatham Silent Pantry for several years, worked many hours fundraising for Crellin Park with her sister Roberta and a was a mentor to children in the Albany Public School system while working at Nexus Lexus.

Ms. Lowheit loved to travel around the USA and the Caribbean islands golfing and sightseeing. Her last trip was to Texas, by car, then a stop at Biloxi, MS, where she loved the Gulf Coast, then onto Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and home.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, March 16 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the French, Gifford Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham.
