OBITUARIES: Bower, Moran, Phillips, Brenner


Thomas Bower, Sr. (1931 – 2016)

ALBANY—Thomas G. Bower, Sr., 85 of Germantown died Friday, November 18 at the Albany Stratton Veterans Hospital.

Born January 20, 1931 in Fishkill, he was the son of the late Leo Anson Bower and Vera (Baldwin) Bower.

Mr. Bower was a veteran of the Korean War having served with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He was a member and past commander of the Jennings-Willets American Legion Post #346 in Germantown and past commander of the Columbia County American Legion. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Germantown and was part of the Boy Scouts of America Germantown Troop 122 for the past 50 years.

He had worked for IBM as a systems analyst for 33 years; owned and operated Tom’s Tree Service in Germantown for many years and had served as chairman of the Germantown Zoning Board of Appeals.

Surviving are: two sons, Thomas, Jr., and David, both of Germantown; a daughter, Pamela Cursoe of Albany; sisters, Dorothy Bower of Livingston and Ruth Kinville of NH.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, November 26, 2016, 1 to 2 p.m. at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown with services at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the Reformed Church Cemetery in Germantown.

Members of the American Legion will conduct services Saturday, 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arthur C. Moran (1951 – 2016)

CHATHAM—Arthur Charles Moran passed away November 16, 2016 after a battle with cancer.

Born January 16, 1951 in Chatham, he was the son of the late George and Electa Moran.

He graduated from Chatham High School and Albany Business College. Mr. Moran enjoyed long drives through the country, fishing, photography, live bands and making many different things with stained glass.

He is survived by: his daughter, Ashley Wilsey; granddaughter, Doniesea D’Andrade; sisters, Mary Chapman and Georgia Rella.

Friends and family will gather Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Avenue, Chatham.

Della B. Phillips (1929 – 2016)

HUDSON—Della B. Phillips, 87, of Greenport passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born in Hudson February 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James and Beatrice (Cutler) Gorman.

Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of Hudson High School and was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her family.

She will be missed by: her son, Michael Phillips of Kinderhook; daughter, Donna and (John) Shetsky of Ghent; brothers, John Gorman and (Georgie), Thomas Gorman and (Mona), Joseph and (Sherry) Gorman; one sister, Catherine Leggett; grandchildren, Kim Coon, John Shetsky, Amy Couch, Steven Phillips and Julia Phillips; great-grandchildren, EJ Coon, PJ Coon, Kaitlyn Jancewicz, John Shetsky, Brianna Shetsky and Ryan Shetsky. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Phillips in 2011; her son, Ernest Phillips; brothers, Gerald, Edward, Michael and James Gorman.

Visiting hours and funeral services are private, burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Stuyvesant Falls, with Fr. George Flemming officiating.

Wanda P. Brenner (1923 – 2016)

GHENT—Wanda P. Brenner, 93, of Hudson and Ghent died Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Whittier Nursing Home. Born March 12, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Josephine Peters.

Mrs. Brenner was a seamstress and devoted member of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson. She was the widow of Julius P. Brenner, who died April 27, 2003.

She will be greatly missed by: her son, Richard M. and (Susan) Brenner of Andersonville, GA; her daughter, Pamela Martino of Chatham; grandchildren, Rich and (Debbie) Martino, Carmen and (Allyson) Martino all of Ghent, Rhett and (Jenny) Brenner and Tyler Brenner all of Statesboro, GA; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Walt Peters and one sister, Helen Bessman.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, December 9, 2016, 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church/ Holy Trinity Parish, 429 East Allen Street, Hudson, with Fr. Winston Bath officiating. Her ashes will be buried in the family plot at Cedar Park Cemetery.
