JoAnn M. Bosnick (1950 – 2022)
WASHINGTON, D.C.—JoAnn Mettler Bosnick of Montgomery Village, MD, died peacefully at Georgetown University Hospital, Sunday, May 15, 2022. Known by her friends as “Jody,” she grew up on Maple Lane in Copake Falls and was a 1968 graduate of Roeliff Jansen Central School.
Born November 7, 1950, she was predeceased by her parents, Dr. John Mettler, Jr., and Elinor Mettler.
She is survived by: her husband of 41 years, Anthony J. Bosnick; her children, Joseph (Ashley), Rosemarie, Matthew (Lindsey) and Daniel (Katie); six grandchildren, Audrey, Eleanor, Madeline, James, Henry and Arthur. She is also survived by: her brother, Patrick Mettler and sisters, Jeanne Mettler of Copake, Meg Wormley of Hillsdale, Sally Mettler Joyce, and Suzanne Mettler.
As a teenager she worked as a counselor at Camp Mahican and then served as the director of this Coarc-run summer camp. She enjoyed working with people with special needs and her experience at Camp Mahican set the direction of her life. She attended St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT, majoring in special education. Upon graduation, she was hired by Montgomery County in Maryland to teach elementary-aged students with special needs. She stayed with the county for 10 years until marrying and having her children. When the children were older, she began teaching at local Catholic schools, including Mother of God School in Gaithersburg, MD, and St. Raphael School in Rockville, MD. She loved teaching and made a positive impact on many students and parents.
She was active for many years in the Mother of God Community and local Catholic parishes. She retired from teaching after the second year of the pandemic and looked forward to visiting grandchildren and traveling.
She always cherished her memories of growing up in the Roe Jan area. She loved returning to the family farm in North Hillsdale where the family gathered for an annual summer picnic. She never lost her love of Copake Falls, and in light of that, she will be returned for burial in St. Bridget’s Cemetery at Our Lady of Hope Church in Copake Falls.
Karen E. C. Hyland (1955 – 2022)
PITTSFIELD, MA—Karen Elizabeth (Conklin) Hyland, 66, of Stephentown passed peacefully May 30, 2022 at the Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Troy, September 20, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Elmer R. and Elizabeth McIntosh Conklin.
She graduated from the Berlin Central High School and lived in Stephentown most of her life. She was a homemaker and was employed by the Springside Nursing Home in Pittsfield for 25 years as a kitchen worker.
She was an avid fisherwoman, enjoyed working in her flower beds and loved birds. She cherished her time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
She was the beloved wife of Edward J. Hyland for 26 years; the devoted mother of James (Melissa) Amuso of Islesford, ME, Toby (Jesse) Amuso of West Lebanon and Matthew (Jessica) Amuso of Stephentown; the devoted sister of Joan Roberts of New Lebanon, Barbara Boehm of Troy and the late Patrick Conklin. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends called at the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NYS Route 43 in Stephentown, June 6 with the funeral service immediately following calling hours. Burial of her ashes will be at the Garfield Cemetery in Stephentown.

Penn J. Steuerwald (1938 – 2022)
VALATIE—Penn Jude Steuerwald, a lifelong resident of Valatie died of natural causes May 31, 2022 in the home where he was born September 21, 1938. He had spent the previous day with his family for the Memorial Day holiday.
He attended Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, graduating as captain in 1956. He received his BA degree from St. Bonaventure University in 1961 and his degree of Juris Doctor from Albany Law School in 1968. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1961 and served in the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. He was honorably discharged from active service in 1964.
Mr. Steuerwald was a nursing home administrator and owned and operated Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie with his family until 2007. In the early 1970s he was a co-owner of the Clover Reach Racquet & Swim Club in Omi with William Cranna and Richard Cummings. He also provided housing in Valatie for many years, owning and managing several apartment buildings. He donated his time to the Valatie Santa Claus Club for many years, and he loved participating in the annual Christmas parade.
One of his greatest joys was preparing meals for those he loved. He loved a good party or celebration. “If it was your birthday or a special event, he would ask you what you wanted for dinner, and he would delight in making it just for you.” He loved preparing favorite dishes for his children and grandchildren. People often ran into him at the local grocery store. It was his goal to make sure that his kitchen was stocked with anything that anyone might want.
He was proud of his family, his three daughters and two grandchildren. He loved music and singing, solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles. He also loved a good pun or any play on words. He was a devoted Yankees fan and he loved watching golf and tennis matches. He was also blessed with one of the strongest handshakes that anyone might encounter. He was a kind and generous man who often took the struggles of others to heart, wanting to help them in any way he could, and he was always concerned with the needs of others.
Mr. Steuerwald is survived by: his wife of 55 years, Joanna (Swartz); his three children, Holly Steuerwald (Jeong Oh); Wendy Beckman (Martin C.) and Amy Steuerwald (Matthew J. Beckman); his two grandchildren, Ryan Moag and Anna Oh, all of Valatie. He is also survived by: his brother, Brent Steuerwald of Clifton Park; nieces, Dawn Rutschman and Kim Stack of Valatie, Susan Ten-Kate of Fallbrook, CA, and Brenda Gooley of Bristol, VT. He was predeceased by his mother, Gladys (Herzing Steuerwald) Bownes; his father, Clinton Steuerwald, Sr., and his brother, Clinton Steuerwald, Jr.
A memorial service was held at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home in Valatie June 4 followed by a burial service at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Valatie.

Allan P. Platner (1944 – 2022)
HUDSON—Allan Platner, 77, a lifelong resident of Hudson, died Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Born October 29, 1944 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Merle C. and Ruth E. (Henry) Platner.
He worked for many years with Yonder Farms in Valatie and was a life-member of the Hudson Fire Company and J.W. Hoysradt Hose Company. He was predeceased by his wife, Susan C. (Bainer) Platner in 2018.
Survivors include: his son, Michael and (Ashley) Platner of Hudson; two sisters, Alice Cordato and Janice Nelson; grandchildren, Michael, Savanna and Addilyn as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter, Robyn in 2003; a brother, Merle Platner and one sister, Bernice Cramer.
Funeral services were held June 4, 2022 at the Sacco Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Burial will be private in Stuyvesant Falls Cemetery.
Wallace C. Pulver, Jr. (1968 – 2022)
RED HOOK—Wallace C. “Wally” Pulver, Jr., 53, a lifelong Red Hook resident, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 28, 2022.
Born August 26, 1968 in Rhinebeck, he was the son of Inge (Mundhausen) Pulver of Red Hook and the late Wallace Pulver, Sr.
He was a graduate of Red Hook High School, Class of 1986. While at school, he excelled at baseball and football. He was also an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
An expert carpenter, he worked for the Carpenter’s Union Local 19 based in Rock Tavern and for Walcott Builders based in Rhinebeck.
He is survived by: his mother, Inge Pulver of Red Hook; his daughter, Molly (Vincent) LaPierre of Elizaville; his son, Clayton John “CJ” Pulver of Elizaville; his sisters, Lisa (John “Marty” Rich) Pulver of Saugerties and Stephanie Pulver of Louisiana; a brother, Michael Pulver of Red Hook; his nieces, Cassandra and Nicole Pulver of Saugerties; his nephews, Andrew Pulver and Wyatt Rich of Saugerties; his great niece, Avani; his great nephew, Tej; along with extended family, friends, and colleagues.
A celebration of Mr. Pulver’s life will be private.

Matthew F. Quinn (1969 – 2022)
LOVELAND, OH—Matthew Frances Quinn of Loveland, Ohio, formerly of Austerlitz, died Sunday, May 29, 2022.
Born October 29, 1969 in Hudson, he was the son of Margy Quinn and the late John (Jack) Quinn of Austerlitz. He worked for many years for Messer Construction Company of Cincinnati, OH, and was a carpenter by trade.
He is survived by: his mother Margy; aunts, Emma Jensen, Evelyn Keefner and Isabel Koch; uncles, Bill Quinn and Carlo Vienni (Denise); siblings, John Quinn (Rose) of Loveland, OH, Mark Quinn of Largo, FL; nephew, Ian; nieces, Molly and Emma; stepson, William Rice; several cousins, friends and his best friend, Greg Hendricks.

A. Russell Dietter (1955 – 2022)
ANCRAMDALE—Andrew Russell Dietter, 67, of Ancramdale passed away unexpectedly at home, May 30, 2022. He was born April 12, 1955 to the late Andrew Floyd Dietter and Carolyn (Hoystradt) Dietter.
He worked for 36 years at what is now, Schweitzer-Mauduit in Ancram. He enjoyed bird-watching and maintaining the family home. On May 24, 2000, he married Carol Sass. They spent more than 40 years caring for each other. An avid New York Jets fan, he enjoyed coaching from the couch. When he wasn’t working, he could be found trout fishing, He truly loved taking his grandson fishing.
Mr. Dietter is survived by: his loving wife, Carol: his son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Kathleen Dietter; his adoring grandson, Evan Dietter; aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Robert A. Stickle, Sr. (1942 – 2022)
PITTSFIELD, MA—Robert Allen Stickle, Sr., 80, of Craryville passed away peacefully Monday, May 30, 2022, at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by family.
He was born January 20, 1942 in Poughkeepsie to the late Dewitt and Flora (Rifenburgh) Stickle. “Bob” worked for Flood’s Sanitation for more than 20 years as a truck driver until he retired. He then spent his time caring for his wife, Dale, of 53 years until her passing in 2015. He took pleasure in surrounding himself with family and friends and could always be found at Stewart’s with a coffee in his hand. He was loved by all and will forever be missed.
He was predeceased by: his wife, Dale (Hay) Stickle; brothers, Dewitt, Jr., Wesley and William Stickle; and a sister, Beverly Stickles.
He is survived by: son Robert A. Stickle, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Lisa Stickle; daughter, Lori St. John and son-in-law, Mark St. John; his grandchildren, Ashley, Brooke and BJ Stickle, Brittany Simmons, Tyler Simmons, Sr., and his fiancée Ashley Hosier; great-grandchildren, Tyler Simmons, Jr., and Amberly Simmons; one brother, Richard “Buck” Stickle; many nieces and nephews.

Jeffrey R. Cooley (1956 – 2022)
GHENT—Jeffrey R. Cooley, 65, of Ghent, a longtime resident, died Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Ghent Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born July 15, 1956 in Syracuse, he was the son of the late John R. and Margaret Ann (Tuma) Cooley. “Jeff” worked many years for the Columbia County Highway Department as a driver.

Loretta M.H. Flint-Wood (1940 – 2022)
COPAKE—Loretta May (Hill) Flint-Wood, 81, of Copake, a former longtime resident of Millerton, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022 after a long illness.
She was born June 20, 1940 in Rhinebeck to David B. and Maude (Squires) Hill.
“Although she did not win the battle,” she cherished and enjoyed her time with her new husband, Gilbert Wood. She and “Gil” had been high school sweethearts and engaged to be married until a misunderstanding split them up for more than 62 years. They eventually reconnected and were married June 20, 2021.
In October 1960 she married Charles J. Flint of Millerton, where they lived many years and raised their three children. They then bought a retirement home in Beaufort, SC. They made many new friends there including the “Laugh Lots,” whom they both treasured greatly. Mr. Flint passed away in January.
For many years Ms. Flint-Wood worked in the produce section of Trotta’s Market in Millerton. She also worked for 15 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Amenia before she retired.
She was born the fifth of six children. She was predeceased by: her four brothers, David B. Hill, Floyd Hill, Ralph Hill, George Hill and her younger sister, Alice “Jane” Hill Newkirk.
She is survived by: her husband, Gilbert Wood of Copake; a son, Charles J. Flint of Millerton and two daughters, Carletta J. Flint of Pittsfield, MA, and Tracy A. Plaut of Wellfleet, MA. She also leaves four grandchildren, Merredith Futrell, JoAnne Futrell, Matthew Hoisington and Jessica Lichtmacher; 10 grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She passed at home, surrounded by her wonderful loving husband and her family. Her hospice nurse at the end was also her beloved niece, Kathy Hill, who did a wonderful job keeping her pain free and comfortable.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life June 18, 2022.

Franklin M. Heller (1938 – 2022)
SPENCERTOWN—To his husband’s utter sorrow, his beloved partner and husband of 45 years, Franklin Miles Heller, “Frank,” died May 30, Memorial Day 2022. July 5 would have been his 84th birthday. In all of these years, Mr. Heller and his husband, Christian Steiner, were inseparable.
Early in his life, Mr. Heller was enterprising and independent. He had not yet finished college but took over a marketing research firm called Praeger. He then left after several years, since that did not satisfy him and went into real estate as a managing agent, which was also not to his liking after a short time.
After these work experiences, he returned to school to complete his studies at Columbia University. Thereafter, he became Mr. Steiner’s indispensable partner during his entire photography career, until he retired in 2004.
Mr. Heller was honest, sometimes to a fault, and had an unwavering optimism and enthusiasm for life. He always thought he and his husband would have many more years to live together, even when he was seriously ill.
A condolence lettter from a friend described him perfectly: “He was an excellent hugger; he made me feel special. A good listener and very supportive.”
Early on, after urging, he also joined the board of the chamber music series Mr. Steiner founded, Tannery Pond Concerts, and served for several years as its treasurer.

Marie A. Williams (1931 – 2022)
ALBANY—Marie A. Williams, 91, formerly of Valatie, died Monday, June 6, 2022 at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation in Albany.
Born April 20, 1931 in Old Chatham, she was the daughter of the late Adolphe and Leona (Turner) Melanson. She was very creative and enjoyed wall papering and sewing. She just loved being able to help others in any way she could. She was a member of the Clearview Alliance Church and taught Sunday school.
She is survived by: her husband, Harold E. Williams; six children, Perry Rothermel (Cindy) of Reno, NV, Lisa Marie Smith (Tim) of Kinderhook, Susan Perl (Raymond), Deborah Light (Tom), David Williams (Jane) and Beth Trenholm (Doug); seven grandchildren, Jessica Ann Huban (Patrick), Jonathon Smith (Kiera), Sarah, Russel, Simone, Sebastian and Sienna and three great-grandchildren, Hart, Oliver, Penelope, She was predeceased by: her husband, George E. Rothermel, Sr.; her son, George E. Rothermel, Jr.; her brother, Walt Melanson and grandson, Joshua Irish.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 10, 2022, 11 a.m. at the Clearview Alliance Church, 275 Schodack Drive, Castleton-on-Hudson. Visitation hours will be Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie. Burial will follow in Kinderhook Cemetery. Roy H. Meuchner (1940 – 2022)
ALBANY—Roy H. Meuchner, 82, of Chatham passed away June 4, 2022 after a short illness at Albany Medical Center. Born February 4, 1940 in Queens, he was the son of the late Henry F. and Adele M. Gerdts Meuchner.
He graduated from Oneonta in 1965 and taught sixth grade in Chatham School District for five years. He took media courses at SUNY Albany and graduated in 1970 with his master’s degree in educational administration. He was employed as a director of instructional support services for Questar III in 1970 and retired in July 1995. He continued as a consultant for Questar III for 17 years. He was a partner in the ownership of Yesteryears Antiques until November 2007.
Mr. Meuchner was the treasurer for the Chatham Lions Club and wore many hats in the organization. There wasn’t anything he was not involved with while being a member for just shy of 53 years. He enjoyed the Saratoga Race Track and traveling, especially to Rockport, MA, and Las Vegas.
He is survived by: his wife of 37 years, Claudia (Barber) Meuchner; son, Eric Meuchner; stepdaughter, Marisa Buckley and stepson, Michael (Shelley) Buckley; granddaughters, Debbie (Andrew) Coghill, Ashley (James Konow) Meuchner, Margaret Rafferty, Madelaine Buckley; grandsons, Christopher Rafferty, Jonathon Meuchner, Jackson Buckley; great-grandchildren, Quinn and Owen Coghill, Sophia, Jamie, and Taylor Konow-Meuchner; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (VanCott); sister, Adele Stadier and daughter, Elisa Pskowski.
Friends and family called at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, June 7 for a religious service.
