Walter W. Beveridge, III (1940 – 2015)
HUDSON—Walter Watson Beveridge, III, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born in Yonkers, July 1940, he graduated from Yonkers High School. He then attended Cooper Union in New York City where he got a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation he joined the United States Coast Guard. He went to officer training school in Yorktown, Virginia. He served four years of active duty, leaving the Coast Guard as a lieutenant commander.
He was employed by IBM where he worked in various locations for 30 years before retiring. He then officiated at girls sporting events, basketball, volleyball and softball. His love of ballooning spanned nearly 30 years. As commercial balloon pilot he had his own business under the name, Float on Air. His other passions included Toastmasters International. He started the first Toastmaster Club in Columbia County and used those skills to work with prisoners at Greene Correctional Facility. He loved to play volleyball and his latest passion, golf.
He is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Beveridge; a sister, Janet Palm; three nieces, Jeanne Combellack, her husband Tom and their boys Shawn and Erick, Kristen Casale, her husband George and her two sons Andrew and Mark and Elizabeth Beveridge and daughter Autumn. He is also survived by two nephews, Robert Carlson and his wife Priscilla and his two sons Treowe and Xavier, and John Gardinor, his companion Caylene and his two daughters Kiana and Kennedi.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 14, 3 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with the Reverend Stark Jones officiating . Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will take place Thursday, October 15 in Conklin.
Cynthia R. Lee (1963 – 2015)
RHINEBECK—Cynthia R. Lee, 51, of Red Hook passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck.
Born October 27, 1963, in Valhalla, she was the daughter of Rose Ann (Fiorella) Chesna of Elizaville and the late Raymond Chesna.
She married William Lee and he survives at home.
For many years, Mrs. Lee worked at Devereux in Red Hook as a vocational coordinator.
Mrs. Lee enjoyed baking and gardening, however her greatest love was her family and her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by: her two daughters, Amanda (Frank Bauer) Lee of Red Hook and Jessica (Edward) Yoli of Germantown; her grandchildren, Aidan Lee, Francis Bauer, Jr, David Bauer, Kaylee, Kyler, Gretchen Yoli and Brooke Yoli; her siblings, Raymond Talbert Chesna, Sr., Robert Chesna, Elaine “Ches” Jackson, Rosanne Hagenbuch, Raymond Todd Chesna, and Carl Chesna; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, October 15 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 15, 2015, 1 p.m. at Church of the Resurrection, Germantown. Fr. Winston Bath will officiate. Interment will be private.

Muriel H. Kittle (1921 – 2015)
CHATHAM—Muriel H. Meister Kittle, formerly of Ghent, 94 years of age, passed away peacefully Monday, October 12, 2015.
She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the only child of Colonel Victor M. Meister and Emma A. Luthy Meister.
She was a 50-year member of the Ghent Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a 25+-year-member of the Eastern Star.
She was predeceased by her husband, Irwin B. Kittle in August 1995.
Surviving are: four children, daughters, Patricia A. Batten (Robert M.) of Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, Barbara L. Pechtel (Jim) of Rio Rancho, NM, and Gloria J. Collins (Alton) of Chatham, son, John I. Kittle (Nancy) of Ghent; grandsons, Todd M. Batten of Houston, TX, Kurt R. Batten of Olathe, KS, Brian Collins of Spencertown, Michael Kittle of FL, Jody Kittle of Ghent, Victor Eberlein of Sarasota, FL, Matthew Eberlein of Saratoga, David Eberlein of Rio Rancho, NM; granddaughters, Brenda Dorato of Canaan and Rebecca Noaman Kittle of Philmont; five great-grandsons and 10 great-granddaughters.
Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham Thursday, October 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Friday, October 16 at 11 a.m. Attendees should arrive at 10:45 a.m.

Thomas R. Conte (1922 – 2015)
HUDSON—Thomas R. Conte of Hudson passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015, at the age of 92.
He was born in Hudson, December 29, 1922, the seventh of Dominic and Angelina Casaregola Conte’s 11 children.
He is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Lesley Alison Conte; son, Thomas Conte and wife Cathy; daughter, Sherene Tiano and husband Joseph; five grandchildren, Nathan, Joseph, Jr., Jonathan, Katy and Shawn; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, George Atwell and wife Ginny; sisters-in-law, Jean Finch Conte and Marie Bartlotta Conte; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Garrison and his six brothers and four sisters, Fred, Philomene, Philomena, Louis, Armand, Anthony, Dominic, Frank, Delores and Jean.
He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1940 and attended LSU during basic training for the Army Air Corps. His family, devotion to his church and being a proud veteran of World War II were most important to him.
He served from January 1943 to December 1945 in World War II, a member of the 892nd Chemical Company, assigned to the 345th bomber group. He served in the Philippines and New Guinea. Five out of seven Conte brothers served in the military at the same time.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the men’s choir. He also belonged to the Hudson fire departments, Phoenix Hose No. 5, Roger’s Hose and Greenport Pumper #1. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club #787 and the VFW, a third-degree Knight of Columbus, and a member the Hudson American Legion for 57 years. Mr. Conte attended many annual reunions with his Army Air Corps buddies held around the U.S.
Mr. Conte’s work started at the Lone Star Cement Company. He was an independent electrician with his father-in-law, Sherwood Garrison for 17 years. He then worked for the New York State Division of Youth, both boys and girls schools in Hudson and Brookwood, along with the minimum security men’s prison in Hudson. He retired from the Hudson Correctional Facility in 1983.
Mr. Conte was Elk of the Year in 1989-90 at the Hudson Lodge #787. He enjoyed golf and bowling and was a member of the Monday Night Elks Golf league champions in 1998 and the Tuesday Night Meadow Green league champions also in the same year. He bowled an unusual “All Spare Game” in 1991.
Mr. Conte was a devout New York Yankee fan, tracking every game and winning pitcher every season. His favorite baseball moment was sitting behind the Yankee dugout at the stadium when Roger Maris hit his record breaking 61st home run on his son’s birthday. He loved a good cigar and a glass of scotch. He prided himself on his spaghetti sauce and Bloody Marys on special occasions.
Visiting hours will be at the Bates and Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Wednesday, October 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Thursday, October 15 at 10 a.m. followed by burial service in Cedar Park Cemetery.
Deborah Martin Jourdin (1951 – 2015)
KINDERHOOK—Deborah Martin Jourdin, 64, of Kinderhook passed away peacefully in her home Sunday, October 11, 2015 with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Fred and Dorothy Martin, February 12, 1951 in Hudson.
Mrs. Jourdin graduated as valedictorian from the Hudson High School Class of 1969 before marrying her husband, Mark, in August of that summer and going on to become a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was an exceptional woman—strong willed, brave, beautiful, intelligent, funny and perpetually positive, with a smile always on her face. These traits were known best by those who loved her.
She is survived by: her husband; her daughter, Yvonne (Jeffrey) of Kinderhook; her grandson, Lucas; her two brothers, Fred Martin (Jean) of Tucson, Arizona and Alan Martin of Stottville.
Calling hours are Wednesday, October 14, 4 to 7 pm at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Services will be conducted Thursday, October 15, 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Ray B. Welch (1951 – 2015)
HUDSON—Ray B. Welch 64, a longtime resident of Hudson, died Saturday, October 10 at home.
Born September 25, 1951 in Jamaica Queens, he was the son of the late Jeff D. and Inez (Colbert) Welch.
Mr. Welch was a carpenter for Columbia Opportunities in Hudson.
He will be greatly missed by: his sons, Ray B. Welch, Jr., Aaron Welch and Mical Welch; daughters, Florence (Robert) Lewis, Catherine (Kevin) Martinez, Keniesa Welch and Ernestine Welch; brothers, Jeffery (Mary) Welch and Mary (Melinda) Welch; sisters, Linda Wilson, Elaine McGriff, Gail Heard and Lucille Welch Binford; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be Friday, October 23, 11 a.m. to noon at the Rock Solid Church, 334 Union Street, Hudson. Funeral services will begin at noon with Pastor Jaron Halsted officiating.
