Irene R. Bastian (1941 – 2022)
HILLSDALE—Irene Rose Bastian, 81, of Hillsdale, formerly of Poughkeepsie, passed away suddenly Wednesday, November 15, 2022.
She was born November 5, 1941 in Poughkeepsie to Joseph and Viola (O’Dell) Cussick.
Prior to her retirement she was employed as a bookkeeper with the former Mutual Cut Flower Company in Poughkeepsie.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert Duke Bastian and a son, Atila Bordas.
Survivors include: her daughters, Irene Woody Cummings (Randy Perretti), Christine Bordas (Albert DeGuisto), Kathleen (Richard) Robinson, Joi VanTassell (James Whearty) and Erica Carothers; her sons, Csaba (Debra) Bordas, Steven (Peg) Bordas, Mark (Sheri) Bordas.
She also leaves her grandchildren, Michael Friedman, Vaughn Bordas, Michael McGrath, Jennifer Gilmore, Natasha Hunt, Ashley Blevins, Bryan McGrath, Elizabeth Hunt, Shane Bordas, Brittany Brunjes, Joshua VanTassell, Bella Carothers, Sydney Bordas, Seth Bordas and Quinton Brooks along with 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held November 18, 2022 at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home in Copake with Bruce Frishkoff from Our Lady of Hope Parish officiating. Interment was in Poughkeepsie.
Bonnie L. Sperl (1944 – 2022)
PHILMONT—Bonnie Lee Sperl (née, Williams) passed away November 22, 2022, at Pine Haven Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born October 27, 1944 in Troy, the daughter of the late Charles and Gloria (Gaylord) Williams.
She is survived by: her stepmother, Patricia Williams; stepbrothers, Shawn and Gary Williams; sons, Edward “Joe” (Denise) Sperl and Christopher Sperl; grandchildren, Amanda (Robert) Martell, Jason Sperl, Jessica Sperl, Edward “Eddie” Sperl, and great-grandchild Oliver Martell, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by: her husband, Edward Sperl; brothers, Charles “Ray” Williams, David Williams and Nancy Klimek. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, December 3 at 11 a.m. from the St. James Roman Catholic Church. Chatham. Inurnment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery

Edward L. Russell, Jr. (1931 – 2022)
HUDSON—Edward L. Russell, Jr., of Hudson passed away November 18, 2022. The son of the late Edward L. Russell, Sr., and Ella Sousis Russell Ewing, he was born August 13, 1931 in Peru, NY. He was known to as, “Buster,” “Bucky” and/or “Skeeter.”
Mr. Russell moved to Chatham when he was a teenager. He lived there for several years while he and his first wife, Rose Stabe Russell, raised five children.
He worked at Columbia Boxboard as a young man and partnered in Sun Dry Cleaners, Troy. He owned Ed Russell and Sons, where he specialized in foundations before changing to general contracting. He continued working into his early 80s.
He was a member of the Chatham Fire Department and the House of Praise.
He is survived by: his children, Linda Laurange, Edward “Rusty” Russell, III, Wendi Paul, Terry Russell-Lichtel and Stacey Russell; his 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Joseph Russell.
He was predeceased by: his wife, Mary VandeBogart Russell, and his brothers, Francis “Sonny” Russell and Allen Russell.
There are no calling hours. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson. Arrangements are with Bates and Anderson – Redmond and Keeler, Hudson.
Charles F. Misek, Jr. (1930 – 2022)
RHINEBECK—Charles F. Misek, Jr., 91, of Germantown passed away Friday, November 18, 2022 at Ferncliff Nursing Home.
Born November 23, 1930 in Manhattan, he was the son of the late Charles F. Misek, Sr., and Antoinette (Klima) Misek.
He married Erna Winter. She predeceased him February 26, 2021.
Mr. Misek served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, and was a longtime member of the American Legion.
For more than 35 years until his retirement, he worked for as a cable splicer with Con Edison based in Manhattan.
He is survived by: Bettina (Hal) Cody of Germantown; his son, Conrad Misek of Massachusetts; along with extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be private, and interment will take place at St. Sylvia’s Cemetery in Tivoli.

Carol E. Ostrander (1940 – 2022)
ALBANY—Carol Elizabeth Ostrander, 83, a lifelong resident of Ghent, died peacefully Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Hudson December 9, 1940, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Anne (McGuire) Twaddle. She was a ceramics teacher and operated C & R Ceramics in Philmont. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard H. Ostrander in 2021.
She is survived by: daughters, Ann Flack of Sunbury, PA, Alison (John, Jr.) Stark of Ghent, Carolyn (William) Postell of Syracuse; grandchildren, Elizabeth Selleck, Conner Stark, Lauren Postell, Patrick Stark, Luke and Lily Postell and great-grandchildren, Hannah Cousins, Kameron Paul and Aria Selleck. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Richard “Kippy” Gorton and one brother, George Twadell.
Graveside funeral prayers will be offered Tuesday, November 29, 2022, 11 a.m. at Mellenville Union Cemetery. The Reverend Jackie Jefferson will officiate. Frank E. Peteroy (1934 – 2022)
COPAKE—Frank Edward Peteroy of Copake died unexpectedly at home, Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
Born March 14, 1934 in Staten Island, he was the son of John and Connie Peteroy, both of Calabria, Italy, and later Staten Island.
Mr. Peteroy is survived by: his wife, Marcia Ann Peteroy; his son, Evan Peteroy; his daughter, Alain Peteroy and her husband Herbert Bergquist; his granddaughter, Amelia Ann Peteroy Bergquist; his sister, Marie Sino; his brother’s wife, Lynn Peteroy; nieces and nephews, Tina Schwarz, Lisa Sino, Joseph Sino, Lauren Peteroy Kelly and her husband Jimmy Kelly, Matthew Peteroy; great-nieces and -nephews, Mackenzie and Chloe, Paul and Joseph. He was predeceased by his parents and younger brother, Richard Peteroy.
After graduating from New Dorp HS in Staten Island in 1952, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and then attended Pratt Institute on the GI Bill. Graduating from Pratt in 1961 with a degree in industrial design, he later became registered architect working in NYC for his career and raising his family in Brooklyn. In 2002, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce awarded him the Building Brooklyn Awards Winner for Industrial Design for his work with Sahadi Fine Foods. He also volunteered for many years on various boards in Copake. This past spring he and his wife celebrated 61 years of marriage, residing at their Sunset/Sunrise Bed & Breakfast in Copake.
A celebration of Mr. Peteroy’s life will be held in March 2023.
Lawrence E. Van Brunt (1942 – 2022)
GHENT—Lawrence Edward Van Brunt, age 80, of Ghent, devoted husband, cherished father, father-in-law and grandfather passed away Friday, November 25, 2022.
He was well-respected in the community for his involvement in the Ghent Town Board, his many years as a New York State EIT, part-time Sheriff’s Office deputy, long-standing member of the Free Masons; past master and district deputy of Columbia (Unity Lodge and Monumental Hudson Widow’s Son #7), leader at the West Ghent Reformed Church. More recently, he attended the Ghent Bible Baptist Church.
His many hobbies included going to car shows with his 1987 Monte Carlo Aero Coupe, collecting NASCAR memorabilia, antique guns, working on model replicas. He was very proud of his family history and researched genealogy dating back to the Mayflower.
Born May 14, 1942, he was the eldest son of Edward and Elizabeth Van Brunt.
He is survived by: his wife 59 years, Nora; sister Linda (Marty); two sons, Skip (Suzanne) and Scott (Sondra); five loving grandchildren, Jacob (Elissa), Caley (Brian), Tyler (Alli), Evan (Kelsey), Ryan (Shannon) and lifelong friend, Larry Benson. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 1, 11 a.m. from the Wenk Funeral Home, Chatham,
