Bertha A. Kowalski
HUDSON—Bertha A. (McMann) Kowalski, 89, of Columbiaville passed away June 14, 2014 at Columbia memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Kowalski worked in several factories as an operator and was a full-time mother/housewife.
She is survived by: four daughters, Shirley Martin of Stuyvesant, Bonnie Calkins of Stuyvesant Falls, Mary Jane June of Kinderhook and Darlene June of Greenport; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Kowalski, Sr., and her son, John J. Kowalski, Jr.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 18, 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Route 9, Stuyvesant Falls. Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 18 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie.
Ronald Goodrich (1957 – 2014)
ALBANY—Ronald Goodrich of Elizaville, known to his friends as “Big Ron,” passed away peacefully at 4 p.m., June 4 at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center.
He was a generous and loving man, who would put everyone else before himself and asked for nothing in return.
After receiving his high school diploma and being a star football player at Red Hook High School, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1978 to 1980 and was honorably discharged.
Mr. Goodrich enjoyed spending time with family, having fun and going to the races.
He is survived by: his children, Melissa (Johnny), Ronald, Jr. (Megan), Eric (Tracey), Valerie (David), William (Brittany) and Brian; 16 grandchildren; his mother, Charlene Goodrich; his brothers and sisters, Donald, II, Kevin, Desiree and Tara; several nieces and nephews; his stepmother, Carol, widow of Donald Goodrich, Sr.
Calling hours will be held at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook, Thursday, June 19, 1 to 2 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 2 p.m.
Lillian Roetina (1931 – 2014)
HUDSON—Lillian Roetina, 83, of Chatham, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born February 21, 1931 in Chatham, she was the daughter of the late Ezra and Myrtle (Boice) Stickles.
Mrs. Roetina was a food service worker at Taconic Hills Central School. She attended Hudson High School and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by: her devoted husband of 55 years, James Roetina; her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Brian Collins of Chatham, and two loving grandchildren, Zachary and Abigail Collins; several siblings; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by several siblings.
Calling hours are Friday, June 20, 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, Hudson. Services follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mellenville Union Cemetery.

Ralph H. Shadic (1931 – 2014)
PITTSFIELD, MA—Ralph H. “Tote” Shadic, 82, of Copake passed away Monday, June 16, 2014 at Berkshire Medical Center.
He was born August 17, 1931 in Hudson, the son of the late Homer and Hilda (Shattuck) Shadic.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps on classified assignment at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines during the Korean War.
Mr. Shadic worked in construction with his father and brother as Homer Shadic and Sons, later known as Shadic Builders.
He was a lifelong member and past captain of the Copake Fire Company; past captain of the Community Rescue Squad; member of the Hillsdale Cadby- Shutts VFW Post #7552; member of the Roe Jan Young at Hearters; member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and past building inspector for the Town of Copake.
Survivors include: his wife, Joan (Salvo) Shadic of Copake; a son, Paul Shadic and his wife Debra of South Glastonbury, CT; two daughters, Christine Shadic of Boston, MA, and Brenda Shadic Olsen and her husband Kirk of Hillsdale; a brother, Donald Shadic of Copake; and two granddaughters, Lisa and Michele.
He was predeceased by a sister, Isabelle Flynn.
Calling hours are Thursday, June 19, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 8074 State 22, Copake Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 19 at 2 p.m. from Our Lady of Hope Parish, 8074 State Route 22, Copake Falls. The Reverend George Brennan will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery.

Emma Lau (1918 – 2014)
N. FALMOUTH, MA—Emma Lau, 95, of Ancram passed away Tuesday, June 17 at Royal Megansett Nursing Home.
She was born in Camden, NJ, August 10, 1918, daughter of Frederick Shienle and Mary Bacon Shienle.
Mrs. Lau received her register nurse degree with the first class of nursing students at Grasslands (now Westchester Medical Center) and worked as a private duty and industrial nurse during the war.
She married Charles Lau in l942.
Mrs. Lau worked for the Pelham Visiting Nurse Association and as director of nurses at Brandywine Nursing Home in Briarcliff until her retirement.
She is survived by: her daughters, Shirley Coward (William) of Ancram and Janet Kluever (Rolf) of East Falmouth, MA, as well as granddaughters, Anne Harrison of Austerlitz, Lorelei (Bryce) Dooley of Boston, MA; grandson, Kurt Kluever (Amy) of Hoboken, NJ, and her great-granddaughter, Sarah Harrison of Austerlitz.
She was predeceased by her husband, “Al” and her sister, Mary.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
